Hal Jones Readies Docks for Historic US Navy Ship
The USS Orleck is a Navy Destroyer Commissioned in 1945 and named after Lt. Joseph Orleck, killed in action during WWII and posthumously awarded the Navy Cross.
The Orleck served during the Vietnam War, as well as the Korean War, and received nearly 20 battle stars during that time.
When the Navy decided to permanently dock the ship in Jacksonville, FL as a Naval Museum, Hal Jones was hired to reinforce an existing shipyard pier to receive it.

Hal Jones installed six 18” pipe piles to support three floating fender panels for initial ship dockage. Then, eight mooring bitts (large cleats) were installed on the pier for the ship’s lines, and an elevated gangway platform was constructed with access ramps for public use to board the ship, now in service as a museum.
