Preach by example of your lives rather than by words.
Example is the very best sermon.”

DEAR VILLA DUCHESNE COMMUNITY,
This past year at Villa Duchesne has been marked by many accomplishments, the greatest of which has been our fidelity to mission—to know and love our students and to live fully the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education. Because of the dedication of so many, Villa Duchesne is thriving, grounded in faith, and moving confidently toward the future.
Months of strategic visioning and community feedback have culminated in our new Campus Master Plan, which honors our roots while boldly envisioning the Villa of tomorrow. As its first phase, the Board of Trustees has announced a transformational investment in Villa’s all-girls Middle School program for grades 6–8, housed in the soon-to-be-renovated second floor of the 1929 Building. This initiative—born of reflection, research, and care—underscores our commitment to providing an exceptional learning experience for every student, today and for generations to come.
Villa’s strength is evident across all measures. Enrollment continues to grow, with 586 students currently experiencing the blessings of a Sacred Heart education. Our fundraising successes, exceptional faculty and student retention, and flourishing service learning program reflect the vitality of our

community. The Class of 2025 achieved remarkable academic outcomes, including a perfect ACT score, a National Merit Finalist, and a Missouri 100 Scholar!
Our campus has also been transformed by the completion of the Ririe Family Tennis Complex, a donor-funded project that not only enhances athletics but also expands our physical education and summer camp offerings. Athletics thrived once again during the 2024-25 school year—Field Hockey captured its 15th State Championship and three members of the Class of 2025 are participating in athletics at the college level. The arts, too, flourished, as performances, concerts, and exhibits brought our students’ creativity and joy to life.
Each of these accomplishments reflects the living mission of Sacred Heart education—faith, intellect, service, community, and personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom. They remind us that Villa’s success is not measured in statistics alone, but in the transformation of hearts and minds guided by God’s love.
Because of your generosity, partnership, and belief in our mission, Villa Duchesne stands strong, vibrant, and full of promise. Thank you for investing in our future and for helping us carry the light of Sacred Heart education into our second century.
With gratitude and hope,

Dr. Dawn Nichols Omar Qureshi Head of School Chair, Board of Trustees

The community and message of the Sacred Heart faith has followed me since my own time at Villa. It is a precious part of my life, and I believe the spirit is alive and living in the culture today. I can also appreciate the modern approach to our daughter’s education.

ALUMNI PARTICIPATION
We recognize our Villa Duchesne and City House alumnae donors by their final graduating class years. Barat Hall and Oak Hill alumni are noted by the school they attended. CULTURE OF GIVING BACK
Whether we are reaching for the stars or forging our own path, Villa Duchesne is committed to educating young men and women to be faith-filled leaders in our community and in our world.

As we focus on the important work of the school year upon us, we also pause to reflect upon and express our profound gratitude to all those who make Villa Duchesne a truly special and vibrant place. The enduring mission and transformative charism of Sacred Heart education are thriving, because of your support and dedication.
Last year was a period of tremendous growth across every facet of our school community. This growth was evident in our ever deepening commitment to academic excellence and programmatic offerings, the ongoing enhancement of our overall student experience and competitive edge, and our steadfast dedication to financial sustainability and future of our school.
This year marks a pivotal moment in our history with the official launch of the Campus Master Plan and the integral Phase I implementation. This initial phase is specifically designed to support the expansion of our already exemplary Middle School program, which will soon encompass grades six through eight. As we stand on the cusp of completing one century of providing exceptional Sacred Heart education, we are simultaneously embarking with excitement and resolve on our next 100 years of excellence in education, ready to embrace the future and all its possibilities.

Last year’s school theme, Through Adversity to the Stars (Per aspera ad astra), challenged and inspired every member of our community to persevere in the face of all trials. Building upon that foundation, this year’s theme, I Will Find a Way or Make One (Aut viam inveniam aut faciam), asks us not only to continue that spirit of perseverance but also to embrace an innovative mindset—to actively forge our own paths, confidently navigating and overcoming any challenges or obstacles that stand before us.
This year has already seen significant milestones, including the joyful dedication of the state-of-the-art Ririe Family Tennis Complex and the launch of our Campus Master Plan and Phase I implementation. Our commitment to excellence in all things begins with our mission, as grounded in our Catholic faith, and with our students at the forefront.
We hope you will join us in all things Villa Duchesne this year. It is truly a great time to be a Villa Saint!
With much gratitude,

Deborah Schlattman Director of Advancement

ALUM CORNER

As I look ahead to the opening of our newly expanded Middle School in the fall of 2026, I am filled with both excitement and a deep sense of nostalgia. I am energized by the future of Villa as we welcome our sixth grade girls into the Middle School structure and design programming and spaces with intention that honor the remarkable, ever-evolving nature of this unique and wonderful age group.
At the same time, each day as I walk the halls, I’m reminded of Villa’s rich history. I am often asked what life at Villa looked like across the decades—its classrooms, traditions, routines, and the spirit that shaped Villa’s culture. Sometimes I can answer from my own experience as an Oak Hill and Villa student for 11 years, or from the 13 years my daughter spent here. Other stories I’ve learned through the meaningful relationships I’ve built with alumni whose ties to Villa span generations.
If you attended Villa in seventh or eighth grade, you may remember the leadership of Sr. Ghio or Miss DiRollo. I have no doubt that Sr. Ghio is watching over this project from her heavenly home, and that Miss DiRollo’s heart is full knowing the next chapter of Middle School at Villa Duchesne is unfolding with such purpose and promise.
Whether or not you were a Villa middle schooler, whether you wore the blue plaid or the maroon plaid, or whether you graduated in the front or the back of the castle—you are part of the Sacred Heart family that makes it abundantly clear that Villa was, and continues to be, a wonderful place to grow.
Great things are ahead!
Sincerely,
Rachel Drone Gehm ’88 Manager of Alumnae/i Relations
TRÈS BIEN AWARD
2025 Très Bien recipients L to R: Mary Catherine McDaniel Leeker ’85, Ellen Woerner Walther ’75, Martha Morris Kendall ’75, Kathy Rogers Coffey CH ’65, and Cady Ottolini O’Grady ’90.
Each year, a small group of esteemed alumnae receive the Très Bien Award for their service to the school and community. The Très Bien Award is given to Villa Duchesne-City House alumnae who demonstrate in their lives the traditions and values of their Sacred Heart education. The award recognizes exemplary service or achievement in the community or to one’s family, church, or profession.
GIRLS SCHOOLS UNITE
The Girls Schools Unite campaign is a spirited, three-day competition among eight all-girls, Catholic schools, each striving for the highest alumnae participation rate. The May 2025 drive was the most exciting yet, with our alumnae rallying in remarkable numbers—428 donors contributed more than $27,000, earning us a second-place finish and an impressive 17% participation rate.
For the first time in the campaign’s five-year history, we surged into the lead on Day 2, fueled by school pride and energized by social media appearances from beloved icons like Miss DiRollo and Debby Watson. Though we ultimately finished just behind Nerinx Hall, the competition raised more than $300,000 in support of all-girls, Catholic education— a true victory for every participating school.
Looking ahead, your participation matters more than ever. The more alumnae who step up to support our alma mater, the closer we come to securing a first-place finish and helping Villa continue to thrive. Mark your calendars for May 5, 6, and 7, 2026, as we unite once again and set our sights firmly on that long-awaited gold!
THE TOP THREE CLASSES IN PARTICIPATION

CAREER DAY
Preparing our students for the world that will unfold before them is critically important in a Sacred Heart school. Villa students are ambitious, and one way we support their goals is through the meaningful wisdom of our successful alumnae. We welcomed seventeen accomplished alumnae back to campus to speak with the Classes of 2025 and 2026 during this year’s Career Day. As our students begin—or intensify—their college decision-making process, they also start to imagine the professional paths ahead of them. Hearing directly from alumnae representing a wide range of fields provides invaluable clarity, inspiration, and real-world perspective. In January 2025, we hosted our largest and most diverse panel to date, featuring leaders in banking, landscape architecture, medicine, education, law, entrepreneurship, technology development, dentistry, and more. Students participated in smallgroup breakout sessions, allowing for personal conversations with women who once stood exactly where they stand now. This experience not only broadens students’ understanding of potential careers but also empowers them to shape their own journeys with confidence, purpose, and leadership.

DUCHESNE SOCIETY AWARD
Francesca DiRollo
The Duchesne Society Award is given to a member of the Villa Duchesne community who embodies the mission of Sacred Heart education. This person embraces and lives the philosophy of the Sacred Heart through a generosity of heart, spirit, and mind, giving with intention and lasting impact, and altruistic acts of time, talent, and volunteerism. In November, we recognized Francesca DiRollo as the 2025 Duchesne Society Award recipient. She is deeply connected to Villa Duchesne and the mission of Sacred Heart education; her contributions are truly unmatched.
A lifelong Child of the Sacred Heart, Francesca DiRollo brought her love of Sacred Heart education from her school days in Scotland. After teaching in Japan, she came to Villa Duchesne in 1979. Soon after she arrived here, she was named Director of Students for Grades 7–8. Miss DiRollo’s name is synonymous with Middle School at Villa; she shaped our Middle School with wisdom and care until her retirement in 2015, impacting countless students with love and high expectations in perfect balance. She continues to inspire our community even today!

STUBBLEFIELD ALUMNAE ENDOWED INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Each summer, Villa Duchesne welcomes back talented alumnae—as college students—to serve as Stubblefield Interns across our administrative departments. These young women bring the strong foundation they built at Villa into their college studies, honing skills and expertise they now apply to real projects that support our mission and prepare our community for the year ahead.
“Today is the perfect example of how I have seen our graduates become inspirational leaders and role models. Many of these alumnae are business owners, CEOs, and executives. They are following their passion and making a difference with their care, love, and expertise. I was inspired by all of them, and I feel reassured that I am in the right place. When we spoke with the alums, I personally received great advice on my major and internships to pursue. Now, my classmates and I want to make Villa proud just like the women who have come before us.”
– AVA HARPER ’25
In return, they gain hands-on experience in a professional, fast-paced environment, building new skills they’ll carry back to campus and into their future careers. We’re grateful for their dedication, passion, and continued connection to Villa Duchesne.
Here’s to our Summer 2025 interns—thank you for sharing your gifts with us!

HEAD OF SCHOOL TRANSITION AT VILLA
In June, after a comprehensive process conducted in partnership with S & T Search & Consulting, Board Chair Omar Qureshi announced the appointment of Alice Dickherber as Villa Duchesne’s next head of school, beginning in the 2026-27 school year.
Mrs. Dickherber currently serves as the Assistant Head of School for Strategic Initiatives and has been at Villa since 2019. She brings a unique blend of professional experience, strategic vision, and a deep personal commitment to Sacred Heart education. She has served in key leadership roles at Villa and has earned the trust and respect of students, parents, faculty, and staff alike.

At the close of the 2025-26 school year, we will bid farewell to Dawn Nichols, who has served as our Head of School since 2022. When Dr. Nichols accepted the role of Interim Head of School for the 2022-23 academic year, none of us could have predicted the transformational impact her leadership would have. Her warmth, strength, and mission-centered vision quickly became the foundation for a period of progress and unity across our campus. We remain profoundly grateful that she extended her tenure through June 2026 to continue leading Villa forward.
Over the course of the 2025-26 school year, Dr. Nichols has been mentoring Mrs. Dickherber. They meet weekly and work closely together on a daily basis to ensure that Villa thrives and that our Catholic, Sacred Heart mission remains the driver of everything we do. This is a time of great momentum and great excitement at Villa with the launch of the Campus Master Plan and the progress already made on Phase 1. Villa’s new Middle School space will be ready to welcome students this fall because of the generosity and support of our incredible community. As we look to the future, we are grateful for the stability that this leadership transition affords us. Thank you for your ongoing support as we prepare for this new chapter—one rooted in steady and faithful continuity!
Dr. Dawn Nichols and Mrs. Alice Dickherber
Planning for EXCELLENCE!
In October, Board Chair Omar Qureshi and Head of School Dawn Nichols shared Villa Duchesne’s Campus Master Plan with our community. This Master Plan honors our history and reflects the transformational educational experience we are called to provide our students for the next 100 years. Each phase of our plan reflects a necessary investment in the student experience at Villa, with an emphasis on academic spaces, driven by our vision for our academic program. Phase 1 of the Master Plan is nearly complete; Villa’s new Middle School space for girls in grades six through eight will be ready to welcome our students this fall!
With the determination and spirit of our founding RSCJ ever before us, this transformative Campus Master Plan reimagines more than 124,000 square feet of existing space and adds 19,500 square feet of thoughtfully designed new space, preparing our Catholic, Sacred Heart community to enter our next century with excellence! Learn more about our path to this shared vision, our project phases, and our progress by visiting our website, and stay tuned for more information as we advance through the phases.
