Shinkin street history

Menham Shinkin 1871-1924 Menham Shinkin was born in Belarus in 1871; he was a Zionist and the forefathers of “Bney Zion” association and also one of the founders of Tel-Aviv in 1896 and the founder of “nes ziona” association.

Shinkin arrived to Israel in 1906 and was one of the first settlers in TelAviv which then called by the name of “hozat bit” in 1910 he offered to change its name to Tel-Aviv.

In 1909 he was one of the founders of the “Hebrew gymnasia” in Herzelia. In 1912 he initiated the foundation of “balahi hamalca” neighbored in Tel-Aviv.

After his death in 1924 in a tragic car accident in Chicago the main street in “balahi hamalca” neighbored were changed to Shinkin.

Shinkin Street was the major street of markaz balay hamlaca neighbored which was built in 1913 in Tel-Aviv by the man called Menham Shinkin. When Shinkin was passed away the street was called in his name.
