Dear Friends, First and foremost I want to thank each of you for your generous support to VCU School of the Arts this past year. Every contribution is important and has impact on the lives of our students.

The VCU Institute for Contemporary Art has been an important focus as we have reached nearly $23M to our goal of $35M. Our committed and diligent Campaign Committee who is leading this effort has made important strides in growing support as well as selecting an outstanding director to stand at the helm of this university museum. The brand new ICA director, Lisa Freiman, has already been out in the community meeting and embracing the creative sector that Richmond is so fortunate to have. We will strive to complete this campaign in the coming year to assure opening the doors in 2015.

I am pleased to report that the Pollak Society has grown by more than 50 new members in the last twelve months. This influential group, named for Theresa Pollak, founder of VCU School of the Arts, provides unrestricted support to our students and encourages community engagement with their talents. The Pollak Society also made a first trip to the international contemporary art show, Art Basel Miami Beach, in December. This event showcased many of our alumni who are recognized through out the world!

Your gifts have also supported individual student scholarships. Scholarships allow support to students in all 16 departments of the School of the Arts. This helps attract the most talented students to our programs and enables us to keep those who might have gone elsewhere, if not for this financial support.

THE POLLAK SOCIETY Members of The Pollak Society, the VCUarts leadership donor group, have insider status at one of the country’s best art schools. Members get preferred seat at all VCUarts events – concerts, dance and theater performances, art exhibitions – plus private tours led by top VCUarts professors and students, as well as receptions in the homes of other donor-members.

The generosity of The Pollak Society members provides critical unrestricted support to VCUarts, which helps fund opportunities for students including scholarships, visiting artist lectures, study abroad, and other priorities to strengthen teaching, research and service at VCUarts. THE VCU ICA The VCU Institute for Contemporary Art will be a non-collecting institution focused on exploring the art of today and tomorrow — a place for the presentation of the latest visual art, performance and film, by nationally and internationally recognized artists, as well as a testing ground for developing the art of the future.

Located at Richmond’s highly visible intersection of Belvidere and Broad streets, this 38,000-square-foot building’s flexible programming spaces were designed

by Steven Holl Architects to encourage artistic collaborations and to mirror the cross-disciplinary approach of VCU’s acclaimed School of the Arts.

A capital campaign is underway for the $35 million project, scheduled to open in 2015.
