Calling all cheerleaders, it’s time for cheer camp! Come and learn the newest skills of cheerleading at our Xtreme cheer camp. Camp is taught by Alexis SafoAgyeman, Conard and Hall High School’s cheerleading coach. The camp will feature the best of cheerleading skills and stunts and will prepare participants for the upcoming season. Students will be introduced to the craft of musical theatre without the pressure of a formal performance. All experience and ability levels are welcome. The Instructor, Kate Morran is a theatre educator and mindfulness teacher based out of Hartford, CT. She is the director/choreographer of the West Hartford Summer Arts Festival and a proud alumna of the program since 1999. For the past 15 years, Kate has co-directed and choreographed the Northwest Catholic High School theatrical productions where she teaches curricular dance and musical theater. She has served as choreographer/assistant director at Simsbury High School since 2014 and has worked on productions at the Park Road Playhouse, The Hartt School Community Division, Conard and Hall High Schools and Bay Path University. Children can explore life in the 1700’s by spending a week as a colonial child! By doing activities at both the Noah Webster House and Westmoor Park, children experience first-hand the chores, games and fun of colonial times. During the week, children become colonial “characters” and help to cook their lunches over an open hearth. They explore Noah Webster’s house and garden, work on crafts, make and play games, and learn colonial dances. At Westmoor Park, children care for the barnyard animals, tend the vegetable garden, and create crafts from nature. Grab your smocks and paint brushes to join Madame Machelle for a journey back to late 1800’s Paris, the era of the French Impressionists. We will explore the lives, techniques and paintings of the famous artists of that time – Monet, Degas, Renoir, Van Gogh, Sisley and others – who established a new and untraditional style of painting. Students will learn and use basic conversational French and associated vocabulary while creating beautiful works of art inspired by these incredible artists. We will also experience the beautiful music of the Impressionist composers who lived and worked during the same period in France. The instructor is Machelle Rosenlieb, a CT certified K-12 French teacher and a tutor for the West Hartford public schools. She has lived and studied in France and is passionate about “all things” French. SIZZLING SUMMER STEM

This activity-driven STEM program will keep imaginations active as kids explore engineering and the future of technology. Students will design and test with 3D printers, LED light wands, rocketry and more! Participants will also get to create their own glow in the dark 3D printed item for home. Instructor Katherine Hardesty, who has worked as an engineer and a teacher for over 20 years, is currently teaching at Charter Oak International Academy in West Hartford. MAKERSPACE

At Makerspace camp, students will explore, create, tinker, play and design. Daily stations will be set up so campers can try different technology applications such as Makey Makey, LittleBits™, Gizmos & Gadgets, 3D Magic Pen and Bloxels game creation. There will also be stations for button, bookmark design and beading project production. Students will also have an opportunity to collaborate on group maker projects that mix technology with creativity. Students can work on one large project over the course of the week or try a new station every day. Instructor: Jessica Santos is the Library Coordinator at Two Rivers Middle Magnet School in East Hartford. She has been working with children in and out of school settings for over 15 years. She curated the new Makerspace at Two Rivers and enjoys blending art and technology. She loves to provide a place where kids can play and create. Instructor: Jessica Santos.

TJ TENNIS & SWIM

These popular camps are perfect for all ability levels. Participants are divided by age and ability level. The camp is directed by T.J. Rush, Varsity Tennis Coach of Conard High School. Campers spend each morning developing tennis skills, playing games and competing for prizes. Lunch is at noon followed by open swim at Eisenhower Pool from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Participants should bring a racquet, bag lunch, snack, plenty to drink, bathing suit and towel. In the event of inclement weather, an email notification will be sent by 8:30 a.m. if that day is to be cancelled. Makeups will take place on Friday of the week of each session. For passing showers the program will use Hall High School as needed. Drop off will be at Hall High School tennis courts and pick up will be at Eisenhower Pool. Instructor: T.J. Rush.

FIELD HOCKEY FUNDAMENTALS

Come have fun with field hockey! Coach Cathy Callahan and staff will lead this fun camp that will focus on learning and developing key field hockey skills. These include, but are not limited to, stick work, dribbling, passing, basic defense, shooting and receiving. Team concepts will be introduced, including passing combinations and mini games. Fun practice techniques such as obstacle courses, exciting games and friendly competitions will be used. Players will be grouped according to age and skill level. All levels of players are welcome and beginners will find this camp a great first step into field hockey. Does your child love ice hockey? Improve their skills with “Step It Up” camp this summer at Veteran’s Memorial Skating Rink. Our one-week half-day camps will focus on key hockey skills that are essential aspects of ongoing player development. Focus will be on Power Skating, Shooting, Stickhandling and position play. Shooting fundamentals will cover technique, weight transfer, accuracy and power, release at full speed and attacking the net. Stickhandling will cover tight areas, puck protection and stickhandling with speed. Power skating drills will address stride technique, power/length of stride, edge work and over speed drills Your child will be pushed to the best of their ability in a fun and encouraging way, and will leave the ice more confident in their hockey skills. Open to Mite, Squirt, Pee Wee and Bantam players with two or more years of organized hockey experience.

Futsal (Soccer in a Room) aims to increase the player’s personal skills to the next level. It allows players to touch the ball up to 600% more than traditional soccer thereby increasing the player’s decision-making skills and comfort with the ball. The Futsal ball is smaller and heavier, which allows the player to easily command the ball and in return increase confidence that seamlessly transforms to a soccer game. Participants should wear active clothing, sneakers, shin guards, and bring a water bottle.
