Mary Helen Thomas was a community leader who broke down racial barriers in the 1960s by promoting water safety and learnto-swim programs in the Hampton Roads area. The Mary Helen Thomas Water Safety Council is honoring her memory by offering a free learn to swim day for youth and adults. Registration (and a swimsuit!) is required.

BLENDED LEARNING
Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over.
LIFEGUARDING INSTRUCTOR COURSE
Trains instructor candidates to teach the basic level American Red Cross Lifeguarding courses and prepares them to use course and presentation materials, conduct training sessions and evaluate the progress of candidates in a professional-level course.
LIFEGUARD RE-CERTIFICATION
Re-certify and refresh your skills in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training.
WATER SAFETY
AMERICAN RED CROSS ADULT AND PEDIATRIC FIRST AID/CPR/AED
Learn to recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing, and first aid emergencies. Gain knowledge and skills needed to give immediate care to an injured or ill person when minutes matter, and to decide whether advanced medical care is needed.
