QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER APRIL-JUNE 2024

LETTER FROM THE ViLLAGE PRESiDENT

Spring has sprung (a little early, I think we can agree)! The blooms aren't the only thing fresh in BG. You may have noticed this BG Brief also has a fresh look. I am pleased to share our new community brand has been adopted — a representation of our community's values, aspirations and identity.

In the coming weeks, you'll receive a detailed mailing explaining our journey to discover our brand, the thorough research conducted and the key findings that shaped its formation. Our brand will not only guide how we communicate with you but will also be seamlessly integrated into all aspects of our operations. You can learn more about this strategic initiative at vbg.org/brand.

This year, we're introducing several other enhancements to elevate your experience as a resident or someone doing business with the village. I'm proud to introduce SmartPermits—a new online permit and inspection scheduling portal that eliminates the need for paper-based processes, allowing residents, contractors and businesses to obtain residential and building permits, check statuses and schedule inspections from the comfort of their homes or offices. Check it out at vbg.org/permits. In June, be on the lookout for the launch of our new website, complete with a 24/7 customer service chatbot, making it easier than ever to find information and request services from our various departments.

These initiatives reflect our commitment to making Buffalo Grove a more accessible, efficient and vibrant community for all. I encourage you to sign up for our weekly e-newsletter at vbg.org/enewssignup to stay informed on other timely information.

Warm regards,

Put your organic waste to work

Good news, BG! Starting April 1, you can begin mixing in organic food waste with your yard and landscape waste. Acceptable organics, like produce food scraps, can be mixed together with landscape waste and placed at the curb to be collected, recycled and put to work at local compost facilities!

These mixed organic items should be placed in a rigid container with a special organics decal affixed (pick one up from Village Hall) to clearly mark this container for WM drivers. Scan the code to the left or visit vbg.org/waste to find a complete list of acceptable and unacceptable organic items.

Major corridors see new life

Development is advancing swiftly along major corridors in BG. These areas, once problematic, are now transforming into vibrant hubs, promising a bright future for BG.

In the heart of BG, at Lake Cook Road and Route 83, The Clove continues to progress, bringing to life the community’s vision. The 7-story, mixed-use residential and commercial building is reaching new heights, with interior buildout moving along from the bottom up. A to-be-announced grocer and multi-tenant outlot building have also been constructed. Interior buildouts are next. Expect more tenant announcements as construction progresses.

Across the street, Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar will soon break ground to build a BG location. Known for its delicious comfort food and laid-back ambiance, Lazy Dog is poised to become a go-to spot for locals.

Then along Dundee Road, the former Rohrman auto dealership site is being demolished to make room for Tesla, luxury apartments and retail.

Need-to-know INFO

Stay informed and keep moving this construction season

Construction work can be noisy, dusty and inconvenient. Stay informed on local projects so you know when to anticipate traffic disruptions. The village is completing a couple neighborhood projects, and there is other work going on at the county level. Find details on all area projects and maintenance work at vbg.org/construction.

Landscape waste collection kicks off April 1

Landscape and yard waste is collected on your garbage collection day from April 1 to December 15. Yard waste should be contained in 32-gallon special yard waste paper bags or a 32-gallon rigid, unlined waste containers marked with a compost/organics decal (pick one up at Village Hall). Bags and containers should weigh less than 45 pounds. Find more information at vbg.org/waste.

Reduce waste while spring cleaning

Do you feel the urge? The urge to purge? Tis the season! As you clean out your closets, consider ways to reduce waste and give items a second life where possible. You can bring clothes, textiles and other household items to local donation centers. Also consider hosting a garage sale (no permit required)!

Prevent flooding by adopting a drain

It only takes a few handfuls of leaves to clog up storm drains, which leads to street flooding. Please consider adopting a storm drain near your home and keep it clear of leaves and debris!

Take note of holiday schedules

Village Hall and non-emergency offices will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day. WM will also operate on a holiday schedule that week with waste and recycling collections delayed by one day.
