Street Traders – Contemporary Histories is focused specifically on three street traders operating in Joubert Street, which crosses diagonally with the Kerk Street linear market. Through a series of dialogues throughout the year, Thoko Zwane, Mimi Matusse and Pretty Ntuli, have shared personal stories about the factors that impact their businesses. Each reflected on their shifting relationship to a city that grapples with the disconnect between its two contracted identities, that of world-class city and African metropolis.
The project was made possible through funding by the National Arts Council of South Africa.
