Vaughan crowned VIC Master Builder of the Year
Vaughan Constructions has won the most prestigious industry award – the Master Builder of the Year Award – at the Master Builders Association Victoria Awards 2018.
The awards, which showcase exceptional craftsmanship and standards of excellence in the commercial building sector, also honoured Vaughan with the award for Excellence in Construction of Industrial Buildings for its work on the $165 million state-ofthe-art Dulux Merrifield Coatings Plant at Mickleham.
Managing Director, Andrew Noble, said Vaughan was absolutely thrilled to take out such a prestigious award.
“We are very proud to accept an award which puts us at the top in our industry in ultimately recognising the years of hard work and commitment from our highly experienced and highly skilled team, our attention to detail, and our superior ECI project methodology which works with the client to achieve the best possible outcome.”
“The award also reflects the contribution of our consultants, suppliers and subcontractors for their hard work, dedication and loyalty to Vaughan over the years, which is greatly appreciated in helping us to deliver outstanding results,’’ Mr Noble said.
He said ECI (Early Contractor Involvement) put simply, meant utilising the builder’s expertise as early as possible in the development process to maximise both cost and operational efficiencies in the design and construction of a building.
“There’s no greater disaster for a client than getting the design they want but one they can’t afford or that ultimately doesn’t meet the desired outcome,’’ Mr Noble said.
He said many national and international companies now utilised ECI methodology to achieve enormous benefits which could extend to ESD outcomes, OH&S, quality, performance objectives, maintenance, life cycle costing, transaction costs and costs associated with both site choice and acquisition.
Vaughan Constructions was engaged under an ECI agreement to complete the base build of Dulux Merrifield, a task which was expanded as the project’s design and implementation progressed to also take on responsibility for the completion of the production process fitout.
Dulux Group Project Director, Kevin Worrell, said Vaughan Constructions had completed both the base build and integrated fitout of the Dulux facility which is now the largest coatings factory in Australia and New Zealand.
“Vaughan understood the complex nature of this project from the outset, working diligently to ensure the best possible project outcomes,” Mr Worrell said.
Master Builders Victoria CEO, Radley de Silva, praised Vaughan for the Dulux building’s complexity and its ability to remain durable in a harsh, chemical-based environment.
He congratulated Vaughan on a building which won the award “…because it expresses remarkable craftsmanship in the way its components come together and meet program challenges”.
Vaughan Constructions will now compete at the Master Builders Association National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards at the Adelaide Convention Centre in November.

Automotive sales continue to thrive
Whilst automotive preferences are changing, the industry as a whole continues to grow in Australia. According to a recent IBISWorld report in 2018 there is a shift in consumer demand for more fuel-efficient vehicles and compact SUVs.
2018 has seen Vaughan completing six new automotive dealerships across the country.
At Essendon Fields, Victoria, two dealerships were completed simultaneously. A Jaguar Land Rover facility including a new car showroom, mezzanine and workshop area, with a drive through canopy and alongside this, a new showroom for BMW/Mini, which included a double story car display gallery, showroom, and mezzanine workshop and drive-through canopy.
Both facilities made impressive additions to the newly developed Essendon Fields AutoCentre.
Continuing our strong partnership with Automotive Holdings Group (AHG), Vaughan was appointed to Design and Construct a new Toyota dealership on McDonalds Road, South Morang, Victoria. Inclusive of a 1,400m² showroom and drive-through canopy, the facility also houses a 2,200m² workshop that has capacity to service up to 28 cars at once.
In Prestons, NSW, works are underway on a new multibranded truck dealership developed by LOGOS Property and pre-leased to Volvo Australia.
Designed and Constructed by Vaughan, the new facility will house the biggest names in trucks, including Mack, UD and Volvo. With a 4,445m² workshop, heavy-duty hardstand, workshop bays as well as office and sales spaces, the dealership will be a prominent addition to the Prestons Logistics Estate.
Recently completed for Inchcape in Parramatta, NSW was the new luxury dealership for Jaguar Land Rover. The 8200m² three-level building includes a double level showroom, office area, workshop area and rooftop customer parking.
IFC Global unveils its new distribution centre
September saw leading international freight logistic company, IFC Global, celebrate the opening of their new warehouse and distribution centre in Prestons, NSW.
Located on Kurrajong Road, Prestons NSW, the new facility boasts an 8,787m² warehouse and 375m² of office space and amenities.
With construction occurring on three title boundaries, there had to be careful consideration of the three neighbouring sites. Vaughan built a close relationship with neighbouring land owners to coordinate site access and ensure the construction process minimised disruption and was completed in the shortest period of time.
Vaughan Managing Director Andrew Noble attended the ceremony, officially opened by the Hon. Melinda Pavey, Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight, and expressed his delight with the completed project and the partnership between Vaughan and IFC Global.

Mirvac Building 3 reinvigorates industrial facades

Sigma boosts WA healthcare with new distribution centre
Vaughan delivered a new distribution centre in Canning Vale, WA for Australia’s largest pharmaceutical wholesaler, Sigma Healthcare.
The $20 million, 15,000m² facility is fully equipped with advanced material handling systems to significantly improve order fulfilment and distribution operations to WA pharmacies, hospitals and other healthcare providers.
Sigma’s CEO and Managing Director Mark Hooper expressed the positive impact the centre will have to the state, as quoted:
“This is a significant investment by Sigma Healthcare which outlines the company’s commitment to servicing the vital healthcare needs of patients across Western Australia.”
“This facility will service pharmacies across the state from Kununurra, over 3000km north to Esperance, a further 700km south and everywhere in between.” Mr. Hooper said to the Australian Financial Review.
