Iaskedherwhatthatentailed.“Ihandlemembership,I’m responsible for the house, external representation, everything else that the other three curators are not responsiblefor,”shetoldme “Keys,”sheadded,motioning totheboxonherdeskfilledwithkeystothehouse. Why AI doesn’t only suck but is also lame.

In order to write an argumentative text against AI one (or in our case, two) can’t even try to outshine the machine. Indeed it outsmarts the human brain on so many levels, still, this isn’t any burden for a human opponent against AI. Instead, this discussion of a bright computer, competitive to the minds of mankind, is itself an argument in opposition to the progressive evolution of computer science; where is the space left for human creativity and flourishing? This technological development has generated a product that thinks for us, but also creates fully artistic works and compositions – sometimes hilariously uncanny, sometimes frighteningly accurate –in a manner that leaves us passive towards our independent actions.

When we write a question with several dimensions and receive a valid answer in just a few seconds, we are fed information we haven’t mentally strained for. We are left with the false stimulus of knowledge. Falsely believing we’ve become any smarter when we haven’t. A good society, the collective group, must be harmonious with the acceptance of individuals with freedom to express themselves. Freedom of this kind doesn’t simply mean that they’re allowed to express themselves but also that the society both can secure that space as well as its ambition is to work against the obstacles of creativity and expression. But, with the presence of an AI capable of being the voice of human beings, is freedom of expression really granted?

So, the theme for this issue is “future” I like the future You like the future Who doesn’t? So, let us talk about the future The future is an interesting place, because it is the same place but another time What is the future? One may ask It is the time that is not now and not then but later Does this time exist or is it eternally created in our present time? Or does time even exist? I have no idea

You often hear the saying “time flies” so I guess that if time exists it must be a bird of some kind I hope it’s an eagle because they are cool, you know But it wouldn’t be bad if it were a lark, then time would have a great singing voice, nice and tender. So, if time were a bird, I would presume that the future is some sort of a cyborg poultry. The future is interesting though, especially for me since it is an opposite subject for my studies: I’m studying history, the science about the past. This raises some questions. Did the old-time folks have any future? Nobody knows these days.

Some time ago, I bought an album by the symphonic rock band Moody blues It was called Days of Our Future Past The meaning is that the future once can turn into the past That’s a quite revisionist take on the future, I guess So I bought this album - about the future turning to the pastin the past but here I am in the future That's crazy, as Joe Rogan would have put it

Dåtidens framtidstro

I alla år har människan föreställt sig framtiden Idag kan vi med hjälp av vetenskapen förutsäga vad som kommer ske i universum under de närmaste eonerna –en ny istid, ett par supernovor, kontinenterna bildar en ny Pangaea… och solen slukar till slut jorden. Lite läskigt, känner jag. Men hur har vi förutspått framtiden genom historien? Vi vet att de gamla grekerna gick till orakel för att få sina öden spådda, och att man under medeltiden hade teologiska debatter om huruvida framtiden var förutbestämd eller ej.

För det mesta tycks vi dock ha levt i nuet, vilket måste varit skönt

mindre existentiell ångest? Det är alltså först under senare århundraden vi börjat fundera ordentligt på vad framtiden kan erbjuda. Under den industriella revolutionen utvecklades tekniken i en takt som vi aldrig tidigare sett. Ungefär samtidigt började vi drömma om vilka underverk vi skulle komma att skapa under efterföljande sekel, vilket man kan förstå. Vissa drömmar har gått i uppfyllelse – vi har ju tagit oss jorden runt med flyg och ut i rymden med raket, och vi kan kommunicera med varandra i realtid även om vi befinner oss på motsatta sidor av jordklotet. Här är några idéer från sent 1800-tal som inte har blivit verklighet (än):

– en slags korsning mellan luftskepp och båtar som tar oss över Atlanten (coolt! luftskepp är underskattade)

– helt automatiserade badrum som tvättar och sminkar oss (lite obehagligt?)

– maskiner som automatiskt överför information från skolböcker direkt till våra hjärnor (vore praktiskt. får nöja oss med poddar så länge)

In late August, 2017, I was road tripping through Sweden with a good friend of mine A few weeks earlier, I had received a reply from Uppsala University in response to my application to the Master's programme in Peace and Conflict studies. I was not accepted, but had been put on the waiting list. I had only signed up for this one programme, and at the ninth place in the reserve line, I had given up on getting accepted this semester. I decided instead to make the most out of the last weeks of summer before facing the harsh reality of unemployment.

So here we were, at the zoo in Orsa, Dalarna. We had been on the road for a few days and planned to be out for at least a week longer That's when my phone rang There had been no-shows and early drop-outs, and now they wanted to offer me a spot on the Master's programme “Can you be here in three days?” What a question – “No problem, I'll be there!” I said as my friend Oskar sped our old Volvo 850 out of the zoo parking lot. I had never been to Uppsala, I had no relatives nor anyone in my near vicinity that had ever studied at any university. To say I was unprepared, as I showed up in Uppsala three days later with a roller bag, no literature, no contacts nor place to stay, is an understatement. I stayed in a hostel for the first week, which I spent desperately trying to find a more long-term solution to my small housing issue and getting to know my new classmates

I quickly learned that most of them were internationals and had joined Snerikes (whatever that meant) After a more experienced classmate briefly explained the nations to me, I decided I should join VG I am, after all, a sucker for civil society organizations, and I did grow up in Gråbo. One could almost believe I wasn't literate, as I completely ignored the big banner and the signs that pointed towards the Inskrivning. Instead, I walked into First Curator Elin's office and asked to become a member. I also asked a question that I would consider one of the top three most decisive things I've uttered: “Is there anything I can do to get involved here?”

I've been active at the nation for five years now, and held some form of office or position the entire time I'm currently one month in on a five year mandate on the board of Stiftelsen, so one could say I'm only half way at the most in my nation career! Had you asked me in July 2017 what I thought I would be doing in the next decade, I'm absolutely confident I would not describe a future that included bartending, formal dinners, renovations, choirs, funerals, anniversaries, flags, lederhosen, or luke-warm Tuborg. I don't think I could ever have learned and experienced so many things in even double the time elsewhere (and I exclude my actual studies in that statement).

I guess that is both the beauty and the fright of the future. The potential is endless, but sometimes it comes down to events that send you off on a trajectory that you could not have anticipated or planned for It is calming to know however that the future is the most generous towards those who embrace opportunities, say “yes” without knowing what it means, and run with it

RoboCleaners My Future

Have you met the new cleaning-duo at VG yet? It consists of our prominent and lovely Catalan members, the best Arnau and Alberto. They have taken the task to a whole new level when it comes to cleaning

It feels really good, says Alberto, finally we both can show the nation how to make a proper work.

Their improvements consist of adapting new technology to the art of cleaning a house, not just programming an AI-chip that sees dirt and filth, but also, through surgery, operate the chip to their brain permanently Along with these assets, they have even replaced one of their human eyes with a robot eye, detecting and monitoring all the dusty areas.

Hasta la vista, baby, says Arnau while a strange engine sound is heard What’s that sound? I ask the duo.

Oh, that’s our new robotic-cleaning hands, says Alberto. We’ve replaced our hands with a vacuum and a sweeper

The duo doesn’t want to give me an explicit answer when I ask them how they will obtain their life when their offices end.

I, however, am not most people. Even as a confused 21-year old student my future is very clear to me. My plans are as follows:

These plans are ordered by the chance of success. The chance of me winning the lottery is about 1 in 14 million and me getting a real job is even less However, I have a foolproof plan which makes my eventual marriage practically guaranteed.

At first I run into a mysterious woman at a cafe, she drops her sandwich on my bad knee and I fall down in pain. Seeing my agony on the floor makes her instantly fall in love with me We move in together in my tent on the corner of the street where I write my novels. We live on scraps for 3 months before she admits that she is the heiress to a great fortune and we move into her mansion together. She also admits that she is pregnant and dying. I become the sole owner of a lonely mansion and a mysterious child. I write books about my pain and become even richer while my child resents me for being too caught up in my work I die content at the age of 112.
