urkish Airlines has a pleasant surprise for golf enthusiasts all over the world! Bringing back the excitement from the Turkish Airlines Open 2013, it has launched the “Turkish Airlines Open Mobile Golf App” to recapture those moments of glory. The app was introduced at the start of the event. It is available at the Apple App Store free of charge and the Android version will be released soon. Compatible with iPhone 3, 4 and 5 as well as iPad 2 and its subsequent upgrades, this mobile application allows players to compete with their rivals on links that are identical to the Maxx Royal course, where the event
was played. With real course simulations and stunning visuals, the Turkish Open Mobile Golf App is set to become one of the favourite applications of golfers worldwide. The Turkish Airlines Open is a USD 7 million European Tour event presented by the Turkish Ministry of Tourism and Culture. Inaugurated this year on November 7th, 2013, it will be played annually on the Montgomerie Maxx Royal Course in Belek, Antalya. Many internationally renowned golf players participated in the tournament last year, including the celebrated American golfer Tiger Woods and French golfer Victor Dubuisson, who emerged as the winner of the title.
SUN EXPOSURE: The sun can feel really good on your skin after the harsh winter, but it’s important to remember that excessive exposure accelerates skin ageing. Try to limit your exposure to the sun.

SMOKING: Cigarette smoke depletes your body of Vitamin C, which is essential to keep your skin plump and moist.

Your skin can be very sensitive, and is the first place that shows signs of ageing. In today’s stressful life, you often tend to neglect your skin. An unhealthy lifestyle affects the way you look and makes your skin age faster. Fine lines, wrinkles, sagging skin, red blotches and irregular pigmentation are signs that your skin is ageing unhealthily. Good skincare combined with the right lifestyle minimises these signs. Due to extreme external conditions and stressful lives these days, the skin undergoes a lot of wear and tear. No wonder, ageing has become an issue at an earlier age.
Keeping this in mind, Piramal Healthcare has launched LACTO CALAMINE RENEU Anti-Ageing Cream. This has been developed with the US-patented ULMAe technology. ULMAe penetrates into the deeper layer of the skin and reduces not just the fine wrinkles but also deep wrinkles. LC RENEU comes with a Reneu Proof Strip Kit (the first in India), that demonstrates the effect of the cream on skin. The anti-ageing LC RENEU also contains 9 natural nourishing organic extracts to moisturise the skin. The natural anti-melanin in it helps lighten skin tone and reduces dark spots.

f sleepless nights, napless afternoons and bedtime battles have become part of your routine, then you definitely have company. But ever wondered why putting Baby to sleep is such a nightmare, or thought of the possible reasons behind his erratic sleep habits? Here are the usual suspects that might be keeping him awake all night. Identify them and nix them ASAP.
Insufficient sleep has been proven to affect Baby’s brain development.
THERE’s TOO MUCH LIGHT The glow of the street lights, the TV or laptop, can be troublesome for your little munchkin to fall asleep. They may fool Baby’s brain into thinking that it’s daytime. FIX: Cut him from all sources of light. Keep the doors and windows of her room shut as you put her to sleep. Using curtains that don’t allow light to pass through can also help. But if your sweet pea is uncomfortable in the dark, keep a night light on in her room, or even better, keep a light on outside her room and leave the door half open. sHE Is NOT EXPOsED TO MORNING LIGHT This may suppress melatonin–a hormone that regulates the sleep-wake cycle–causing it to lie low when it should be high. Plus, if she is not exposed to light, her days and nights may get mixed up. FIX: Take her out for a walk to expose her to natural light. This will help her associate light with activity. Move your nursing pillow to the sunniest spot in the house and feed her there.

Unhindered sleep is extremely essential for Baby’s growth. Make sure you identify and fix the culprits behind her scanty sleep.

HER DIAPERs ARE WET Wet diapers have been found to be one of the most disturbing causes behind poor sleep. FIX: Use a diaper that gives long hours of dryness and therefore, uninterrupted sleep. Keep checking the diaper frequently and make sure that a diaper rash is nowhere in sight. Also, when you’re changing her at night, keep the lights dim. HE Is NOT APPROPRIATELY DREssED Tights and uncomfortable dress materials like synthetics can cause discomfort while sleeping. FIX: Make sure he wears clothes made of light, breathable materials when you put him to bed. Also, loose fitting clothes are ideal for bedtime.
T
sHE HAs NOIsY sURROUNDINGs When the sound soars high, it boosts the oscillation in your sweetie’s eardrums. This makes her auditory nerves sensitive and disrupts the biological clock. FIX: Switch off the music system and TV while putting her to bed. Make sure that everyone talks softly in the house when you are putting Baby to bed.
Slender and Smart
HE GETs HUNGER PANGs Getting hungry frequently can be a major contributing factor behind lack of sleep. FIX: Certain foods and drinks can be the culprit. If you are breastfeeding avoid alcohol, artificial sweeteners, excessive caffeine and highly-spiced foods.

Mandu
The legendary town of Mandu celebrates the love of poet-prince Baz Bahadur and his beautiful consort, Rani Roopmati; and the balladeers of Malwa still sing of their romance. Formerly the fort-capital of the Parmar rulers of Malwa, it was later reigned by the Sultans of Malwa, who built magnificent palaces, baths, and pavilions. The first Sultan rightly termed Mandu as ‘the city of joy’.

When we think about foxes hunting penguins or wolves killing deer, it can seem sad. But when animals hunt other animals for food, an important process takes place. Predation keeps the world’s ecosystem in balance. We know that foxes are predators that stalk penguins. But penguins are also predators. Penguins prey on small fish and squid. This is all part of nature’s plan.

Penguins, like other birds, lay eggs. They have beaks, wings, and feathers. But penguins are different from many other birds. Penguins cannot fly. They use their flipper-like wings for swimming instead.
When ravenous foxes devastated the fairy penguin colonies of Australia’s Middle Island, it took a farmer named “Swampy” and his dog “Oddball” to save the day. This event, a world’s first, opened the door to using Maremmasfor protecting other vulnerable species. by Katy S. Duffield

souTH africa in Two Minds
You want a bit of this and a bit of that. The adventurous streak in you beckons you to the wild, but you don’t want to give up on the big city life either. Well, it’s South Africa for you then offering the best of both worlds and a perfect way to break free from the hectic wedding preparations back home. Take your friends to the game drives at Kruger National Park to spot the Big Five (African lion, elephant, leopard, Cape buffalo, and rhinoceros), or enjoy bush walks to watch the bright bugs mob the plants. One evening take a walk through the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town that sets the mood for shared conversations. Pick a café with views of the picturesque Atlantic Ocean and the Table Mountain for the perfect setting.
Has the hustle and bustle of planning a wedding left you exhausted? Want some free time with your mates? Well, Sydney is on the cards then. Plan at least a month or two in advance and you’ll be all set to surf in the morning or laugh off your failings over a drink with friends at night. After crashing the waves during the day, evenings are meant to soothe those sore muscles with a drink at the local bar such as Ivy Pool Bar and Bondi Icebergs. Sydney has become synonymous with Masterchef and it’ll be a waste of a trip if you don’t book a table at celebrity chef Matt Moran’s North Bondi Fish. When ready to deal with the waves again make way to the Garie Beach in Royal National Park, the beach at Macca’s, and the Palm Beach. And if you are feeling confident, then head to Bondi for a friendly competition with teenage champs. Other activities include a hot air balloon ride at dawn over O’Reilly’s Grand Homestead & Boutique Vineyard, or a car ride through the island’s scenic Great Ocean Road. The best nights, after all, are the ones spent sharing a joke with friends–less ‘traditional’ but surely more appropriate. And if you don’t want to give the party scene a complete miss then the Sydney Harbour is your destination.
Spend the night under the starlit sky with the crackling sound of the bonfire and nocturnal cacophony for company at MalaMala Game Reserve. While back in the cityscape, at the Long Street a variety of Jazz and salsa clubs, trance venues, rock and local kwaito jaunts, present themselves. Don’t miss out on a meal at Mesopotamia, the country’s first Kurdish restaurant. Let your hair down at Tiger Tiger, a popular bar, or lounge at Opium, the cigar lounge on De Waterkant. If you bring yourself to Durban, you will be able to spend a few nights hopping clubs on Florida Road, some of which are The Empyre, Café Vaccamatta, Panama Room, and Origin Nightclub.

Kenya is the closest you can come to experience the beauty and grandeur of the wild. In their natural habitat, the majestic beings will leave your spirit inspired and mesmerised. Thinking of a bachelor trip to a picture perfect location, Spain has all the right ingredients for a perfect escape. Make Madrid the first city on your radar. Start with the simplest sport, go karting on a 3,000-square-metre track at Carlos Sainz Center, or paintballing with your buddies at Gran Paintball. Take things a notch higher with a white water-rafting adventure with Paddle in Spain. Then, squeeze in a few hours for parascending, mountain biking, and then, skydiving to finish off in style. When it’s time to unleash the party animal in you, Ibiza is your destination. Drown yourself at the surreal beach parties in Bora Bora Beach Club and Sankeys on Playa D’en Bossa. Or, just stick to your own stag at Privilege, the biggest club in the world with a reported attendance of around 10,000 people. Rest assured, you will come back with a happening account of what happened in Spain. T r av e l + l e i s u r e W e D D i N G s & H O N e Y M O O N s 2014

You don’t want your stag/hen party to be as crazy as The Hangover but you want it to be exciting enough and definitely in Las Vegas. At the Exotics Racing in Las Vegas Motor Speedway get behind the wheel of a Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Porsche or Audi. Here you can drive these powerful machines to reach their full potential on the racing track to induce an excitement that borders on panic. But, if you prefer watching some action unfold then it’s the motorcycle races at The Orleans Casino Arena for you. It may be bordering on the boring in Las Vegas for some, but who cares: Drive to the top of the mesas to muse over the breathtaking views of Lake Mead, Grand Canyon, and Valley of Fire with the Desert Adventure ATV Tour at the Southwestern desert. Apart from that, you can enjoy a white water rafting experience on the Colorado River that takes you through the natural gorge of the Black Canyon immediately below Hoover Dam. Luckily, you are in a city where staying indoors is as good an option as going out; when in the mood to relax visit the spa at Caesars Palace. The wellattended pool complexes give you ample time to soak up the sun over cocktails and dance to the head-bobbing tracks spun by world famous DJs at the all-day pool parties. Speaking of parties, you are in Las Vegas and passes to exclusive clubs and shows are always on the find. And if a bit of gambing is also on your mind, then the casinos are never far away.

Hong Kong makes for a convenient escape for the gourmand stag/hen who love to binge on good street food. The kick lies in experimenting with your taste buds. Some dishes you might come across are snake soups, crispy chicken feet, deep fried slugs, four month old duck eggs, and a mix of coffee and tea in the same cup! Make your way through the food districts in Hong Kong such as Kowloon City where Chinese and Thai cuisines find prominence, Sai Kung and Lama Island for fresh seafood, and Tsim Sha Tsui where Japanese, Spanish, and Italian restaurants are abundant. Other popular jaunts are spread across stretches of Nathan Road, Canton Road, and Granville Road. If the food buff in you is satisfied, head to Macau which is a small ferry ride from Hong Kong and has taken over Vegas’ reputation of casinos! You could try to win back all that you’ve spent on the trip or lose some for that matter. One of the visits will be The Venetian Macau, the world’s largest casino with blinding neon lights zigzagging its way through the length of the building (it is hard to miss it on the Cotai Strip), the second being Casino Lisboa on Macau Peninsula. Book a yacht if you want to go island hopping. Luxury resorts at Abaco island offer you the scope to scuba-dive, snorkel, or dive deep to witness the bright and colourful marine life. There is great pleasure awaiting you at night when you can have a stretch of the beach all to yourselves, with the resplendent moon shining down on the white sand, and the cool sea breeze floating you away to another world. Head to Sundowners, the bar cum restaurant where you can dance under the stars, or listen to local bands play through your dinner at Curly Tails.

If you don’t want to let go of your passion for history, architecture and arts then you’ll soon find yourself wondering about Greece. The place is a walk through a maze of architectural facades, risen from within the ruins of one of the oldest civilisations in the world. Apart from Parthenon on Acropolis in your Greece brochure, shift your focus to the neighbourhoods of Plaka, Monastiraki, Psyrri, and Rethymno, which are a walk through cozy cafes and eateries, souvenir shops, and boutique stores. The sanctuaries at Ramnous, classical sights of the Temple of Poseidon at Sounio are overwhelming. Bachelor or bachelorette trips hardly come without digging into the local cuisine and enjoying the nightlife. As such, trips to the islands of Saronic Gulf will bring you to streets filled with bustling crowds that throng pubs and diners and linger till 4 am. The ‘tavernas’ or outdoor restaurants are almost ubiquitous, with tables spread under reed canopies; and ‘psistaries’ or grill houses smoking up meat for customers. If you are a wine lover then you won’t regret a visit to Lesvos and Santorini. T r av e l + l e i s u r e W e D D i N G s & H O N e Y M O O N s 2014

Design gets playful and innovative, giving shapes a modern interpretation.
COLLECTION IN FOCUS
STYLE NOTES Elegant materials and organic design come together to create unforgettable pieces.
DESIGN REINTERPRETED The wall rack system features chrome metal hooks and polished transparent methacrylate in red, opaline white, transparent and black. Emporium emerged out of an encounter between Gabriele Pierini, a master at processing plastic materials and renowned Italian designer Roberto Giacomucci. The underlying intention is to reinterpret shapes using irony.
(Clockwise from left) A hanging lamp and coffee-table; a wire chair and wall sculpture; cushions; designer Gaurav Nanda.
A FAMILY BED The Mythos bed from Axil has a strong character, with a combination of round lines for the headboard and simplicity of lines. The padded headboard and frame give it a soft appearance. It comes with four wooden legs, which also come in removable leather. The slatted base in fibreglass or wooden slats is covered. The leg finishes come in natural ash-wood wengé, grey, white or beige.
Chandigarh Memories Designer duo Doshi-Levien take inspiration from Indian motifs.
Soft Contours The Tonda-Poltrona chair from Softhouse takes a playful dive into 1950s fashion with an absence of sharp corners and featuring a fully rounded backrest. The style represents a tendency to simplicity, through classic forms and proportions with contemporary reinterpretations which match neutral tones of ecru and grey, along with colourful accessories and decor.

ondon-based Nipa Doshi’s memories of life in India filter subconsciously into her work. She says, “My use of colour, materials and cultural references are a way to create a world that combines these memories with a vision for the future.” Doshi and her husband Jonathan Levien’s work, she explains, “celebrates the hybrid and explores the coming together of cultures, technology, storytelling, industrial design and fine craftsmanship.” The city of Chandigarh, known for its architecture by Le Corbusier, is the inspiration behind Doshi-Levien’s new collection of sofas for Moroso. “For us, the Chandigarh sofa is the coming together of modernity, sensuality, graphics and eccentric qualities,” claim the Anglo-Indian designer couple. The Chandigarh sofa is soft, comfortable, sleek and lightweight and comes as a one, two or three-seater. The covers are in leather or fabric, with a printed pattern, which pays homage to the city of Chandigarh. The sofas are accompanied by small and large two-tier occasional tables made using glass, terrazzo, polished metal and tubular steel.
The Elektra collection from Busnelli reimagines sofas, armchairs, chairs and small armchairs that display an eclectic spirit and come with a strong personality. The main theme is unique craftsmanship and customisation. It uses highquality leathers and coach hides, sophisticated and exclusive fabrics, with wood cabinetry.
Designed by Karim Rashid, the collection of vases is a mix of holistic approach and democratic design. To use a word he coined, the collection is “organomic” (organic + ergonomic). It ranges from smooth, wavy and stylised lines to a display of optical effects. The ideas are two-dimensional and symbols placed on the items represent universal concepts like karma, healing and balance.
ESSENTIAL MATH The Fibonacci collection for Bitossi Ceramiche is inspired by the famous numerical sequence, translated onto contemporary ceramic. The design, by Brian Sironi, strives to achieve the same harmony, in an absolute essentiality. The horizontal lines to separate the rings are the result of hand-throwing.

For The Outdoors Keeping in mind the need to design for open-air areas, B-Line’s chairs offer solutions in polyethylene, metal and even upholstered. Icon, Park and Crossed make up a triad of differently shaped seating creations that share the same strong vocation for the outdoors, combining design originality with a production that is entirely “Made in Italy”.
Villa D’Este’s Tivoli collection is composed of Valencia goblets for wine and tumblers for water in six assorted colours. A decorative element connects the round shape of the bowl to the foot, while the tumbler is conical. Suggestive waves run through the surface of the glasses.
PLAY WITH LIGHT
Lucifero’s professional projectors with a base for LED light sources, complete with power supply, feature three different working positions via a sliding mechanism on a rod integrated in the body of the device. The Miroir is an attractive concept for a space where lighting is the real star. The natural environment is the starting point, a place where forms, lights and colours come into play. 00 CASAVIVA AUGUST 14

os angeles-based designer Gaurav nanda’s bend began in 2010, inspired by 1950’s sculptor Harry bertoia’s metal rod chairs. says nanda, “i spent two years developing my line. i set out to update the concept and offer something edgier and lot more intricate and comfortable.” nanda previously worked at General motors in the design department as a
sculptor. He was also involved with his sister Gauri’s project clocky, the clock that runs away from you. on his collection of wire furniture, which he has also exhibited in new York at the international contemporary Furniture Fair, he remarks, “i love that with wire you can create any shape and pattern. The process starts with something i see, maybe a cup i am inspired by or a certain
type of bird. From there, i sketch out rough concept drawings. Then, i build models with vellum paper and clear tape.” The manufacturing process of the chairs involves a handcrafted method of shaping and spot welding, a process he likes to call “bending”. on his vision, he says, “We’re just going to continue to design cool products. it’s exciting to see our ideas evolve.”

rom a budding architect in Bangalore to a field engineer in Los angeles, sona Reddy is an interior designer, curator, flea-market addict and businesswoman. the narrative of her Room therapy store, nestled in Hyderabad’s prime area of Jubilee Hills, is colourful with distinct indian and globally influenced echoes. Room therapy started as a small studio at her house and now inhabits its first store, designed by sona herself. the 3,000 sq ft space features East-meetsWest walls, high ceilings, iron corinthian pillars and industrial chandeliers, lights and accessories, all customised by her. the walls create a statement, with one adorning old drawers as shelves that display varied décor products. the main chandelier at the entrance, made of mesh and 300 bulbs, is a striking piece. says she, “When i first designed the store, i wanted it to connect with the senses as a space that smells good, feels good and is overall a visual feast. textured fabrics, warm neutral tones and splashes of colour enhance the eclectic look of the store. i have tried to create a walk-through concept showcasing different accent pieces that can spruce up any home.” Room therapy aims to offer a range that can instantly add character and personality to any room. For the floor, you will find rugs that are available in varied styles and designs— contemporary, weaves and traditional. the furniture includes chairs, consoles, coffee-tables and chests, designed and manufactured in various parts of the country. I believe in creating gardens that are both edible and beautiful, so I can entertain outdoors as well as indoors… specially during the festive months. Whether it’s a simple get-together with family or an extravagant dinner party with friends, it’s good to plan ahead with these smart and easy gardening ideas to help your garden produce edible and decorative props to be enjoyed over the coming months.
raising mix or a bit of fertilizer and water gently for a moist start to some healthy salad greens. You can’t go wrong with a light rocket, watermelon and pine nut salad as a tantalising entrée.
1 POTTED MINT Mint grows easily during this time and can be turned into a fragrant border in rectangular pots or in the ground. Growing mint by seed can be painfully tricky, so if you have a gardener ask him to get you seedlings, or if you’re going DIY, plant the root ends of the mint you buy at the grocery store, and you’ll see it sprout up again. Once it’s under way, and with regular water and a little shade, mint will grow vigorously, so pots are the best option – and will ensure that surrounding plants aren’t overtaken or destroyed. With just a little TLC, you will have flourishing mint all through till November to garnish your classic lemonades, iced teas, watermelon salads or to shred through jugs of mojitos.
3 PLANT TOMATOES IN THE SUNSHINE Red and juicy tomatoes are always a crowd pleaser, particularly when it comes to fresh salads, pasta sauce or just a healthy summer snack. And home grown tomatoes that have soaked up plenty of sunshine are always so much more full of flavour than store-bought tomatoes that have often been stored in cool rooms. Lots of strong and direct sunlight will also help make tomatoes nice and stocky. Planted now, you will be harvesting a good haul of garden fresh tomatoes till late October. Enjoy weekend brunches of bruschetta using your diced red tomatoes mixed with olive oil. Place on top of toasted, crusty bread and garnish with a bit of basil (also from your garden!) to really be transported to the hills of Tuscany.
2 GROW ROCKET YOURSELF – AT HOME Baby rocket is ideal to have on hand in your garden for salads, to add crunch to sandwiches and for side dishes. Baby rocket is sweet and nutty as opposed to grown rocket which is often quite spicy. The advantage of growing rocket at home is that it grows extremely quickly, and is also easy to grow from seed. Simply sprinkle the seeds on soil, lightly cover with seed-

Those familiar with Aladdin and I Dream Of Jeannie will find this wall graphic by Akaar particularly amusing. It’s much more than just a pattern on the wall, for it reiterates the mystical tale of a magical lamp and its vivacious Jeannie and wittingly, helps your room tell a story. Don’t chide it off as childish though; such graphics in a living room (as used in this picture on the wall behind the sofa) go really well with neutral as well as rich colours. rank Gehry is 85 years old, yet this worldrenowned architect isn’t slowing down. His wit, intellect and desire to create are still great, and his keenness to retain a child-like imagination and sense of wonder seems to have stalled the ageing process. “Architecture and art can transform a person, even save someone. It can for children – for anyone. It still does for me,” says Gehry, who maintains a hectic travel schedule to oversee his far-flung commissions (Sydney and Abu Dhabi currently) and remains at the helm of his architecture practice in .
Since August 2010, when Vanity Fair magazine conducted an extensive peer survey, Gehry has carried, reluctantly, the title of ‘most important living architect’. Such platitudes mean little to Gehry, who deplores the word ‘starchitect’, which he considers a glib moniker contrived by “mean-spirited” journalists. “I see every new project as a challenge. The fame stuff and attention came into my life late, in my 50s,” he explains. “By then you’re pretty well formed and your patterns of insecurities are well formed.” This modesty belies Gehry’s influence on the cultural legacy of the last century. Three of his buildings – the 2003 Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, the 2004 Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park, Chicago, and his 1977-78 Santa Monica house – were included in the Vanity Fair survey, and his innovative museum in Bilbao, Spain, for the Guggenheim Foundation was voted the ‘most important piece of architecture built since 1980’.

You can create a focal point in the room by using a wall paint texture, a bold one at that, which stands out perfectly even without any hangings or works of art. Velvet Touch finishes by Dulux combine patterns with colours, and this red one is especially rich and vibrant. Notice how the wall adjacent to it is painted in red too, though without any texture—follow the same and keep it limited to just one corner or wall. And to avoid one colour from being too overwhelming, make sure you pick some light-coloured furniture pieces and décor items. The brand has more colours, patterns, finishes, and textures, so rest assured, you will find something suitable for every room. dulux.in

Like fashion accessories, wallpapers are a quick and inexpensive way to look great and add style to a place, especially intimate spaces like bedrooms. Another advantage you get with wallpapers is that there is so much choice in terms of colours and designs that you can easily treat each room differently. Bedrooms should have that soothing effect, so keep the wallpaper on the headboard soft and fresh. To be on the safe side, you can try this distinctive, multi-colour design by Harlequin (available at Floor and Furnishings), which is simplistic as well as sophisticated. Moreover, it works well with just about any kind of décor; contemporary or classic. fandf.in
5 GROW FRAGRANT PERGOLAS
There is little doubt his peers respect him. At 91, Philip Johnson – considered the grandfather of modernism – visited the then just-completed Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and famously remarked to Gehry while standing in the atrium: “Architecture is not about words. It’s about tears, I get the same feeling in the Chartres Cathedral.” This was a supreme compliment for Gehry, who initially found inspiration not in the great works of modernism, but in the High Gothic churches of Europe, specifically Chartres. While his peers applauded, the local Bilbao community was initially unconvinced. When he first unveiled the plans for the 265,000-square-foot luminous titanium-clad museum that appeared to buckle and waver like a school of fish fleeing a predator, “there was a threat in the newspaper: ‘Kill the American architect’,” Gehry explains. “I was worried for a while. I thought they meant it.” But when the museum generated 310 million euros in the first year of opening, a coup after Gehry completed the project three million under budget, the local residents soon warmed to it. “The building paid for itself in the first eight months it was open,” Gehry says.
At 85, Frank Gehry still approaches life with the enthusiasm and passion of an 18-year-old. His signature-style buildings grace every part of the globe, and he isn’t about to put down the pencil. As his creation for the Fondation Louis Vuitton is about to be unveiled, Lorraine Koh meets the man of mettle.

growing beautifully in the Nilgiri hills and in the north of India long before the yellow varieties were imported. In fact you can bring seedlings for the purple kind from regions that see a lot of passionfruit like Meghalaya, Manipur, Sikkim, Mizoram, and Nagaland. You’ll find the imported yellow variety growing widely now in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Purple varieties grow better at higher elevations, whereas yellow passion fruit adapts better to lower lands. If you live along the Western Ghats including Nilgiris, Wynad, Kodaikanal, Shevroys, Coorg, and Malabar, this is the perfect time to plant yellow passion fruit. Come November, you can fill shot glasses with fresh vanilla bean pannacotta and top it with passion fruit and crushed meringue.

rtisan workshops are open to the public and are very popular tourist attractions. Among the most nostalgic souvenirs for foreign visitors are the world famous cuckoo clocks from the Black Forest. In stark contrast are the products made by the watchmakers from Glashütte in the Erzgebirge mountains – their wrist watches are produced in small workshops with the highest precision and for many, a ‘Glashütte’ watch defines worldwide exclusivity. In the course of this development, ‘Made in Germany’ became a recognised trademark and quality seal worldwide.

Traditional
Along the 250 kilometre Glass Route, visitors to Germany can discover a wide variety of places where over 400 years of traditional glass blowing is still practised in some historic kilns. Artistic objects are in high demand, especially as a souvenir of a visit to East Bavaria. Over 100 open-air museums across all federal states document the history of traditional and typical professions for the area, many of which are now virtually extinct (stonemasonry, blacksmithing); others maintain their skills and continue to pass them on from one generation to the next to this day. Many of these openair museums, for example the Hessenpark in the Taunus or the diverse artisan villages in the Sauerland, are located in particularly lovely countryside settings.

Booklets FOR YOUR BABY’S FUTURE
REASONS TO CONSIDER In case you are wondering why you should bank cord blood of your baby, here are five reasons to help you make a healthy choice: n According to a scientific paper, one in 200 individuals may need a haematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) transplant by the age of 70.
Cord Blood Banking
n Chances of finding a bone marrow match in a family are 60 per cent higher.
Cord blood banking has made it possible to secure the future of a child and ensure that he/she is healthy. Preserving stem cells by collecting cord blood of your newborn at the time of birth will give you the peace of mind that your baby is equipped to fight any disease that may affect him/her in future.
T
cord injuries, and treat cardiovascular diseases could prove revolutionary in the field of medicine. If you take this first step and preserve the cord blood of your little one, this stem cell therapy may help your child in battling life-threatening diseases in the future.
n According to a research, patients have a lower chance of developing complications in stem cell transplants if a relative’s stem cells are used. n Some of the most common cancers are treatable with stem cell transplants.
Once your baby is separated from the umbilical cord and moved from the birthing area, your doctor will insert a needle into the cord vein and drain the blood into a blood bag. You can breathe easy because this three-minute procedure won’t alter the birthing process in any way. The procedure of collecting cord blood is painless and risk-free to both you and your baby. Nonetheless, the final decision of whether the cord blood should be collected or not will be taken by your doctor after ensuring that you and your baby are both safe.
he umbilical cord functions as a lifeline between mother and child during pregnancy. After the birth of the baby, some blood remains in the umbilical cord and placenta, and if stored, it could be used in future by the child or members of the family. Cord blood, or placental blood, is a rich source of haematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). These stem cells are often used in transplants to regenerate a patient’s blood and immune system, following treatments like chemotherapy and radiotherapy which destroy blood cells. As a matter of fact, diseases including blood cancers, solid tumours, metabolic disorders, immunodeficiency disorders and non-malignant blood disorders could be treated with stem cell transplants.
A Brighter Future
The applications of stem cells are growing at a tremendous pace. Scientists are exploring the possibility of using cord blood stem cells to treat life-threatening heart and brain diseases. Undoubtedly, their research to find new ways to repair and regenerate cells to heal brain or spinal

Moreover, each of its processing steps is traceable throughout the procedure and could easily be monitored. Another advantage of this technology is that even in the case of power failure, it is fully capable of processing the cord blood without any errors. Trusted by a majority of the world’s leading cord blood banks, both private and public— Sepax® 2 is the most advanced system with proven transplant track record. In fact, over one million cord blood units have been processed using this system in more than 50 countries, making it the world’s most tested and proven automated system.
Benefits To A Parent As a parent, you need to be sure that whatever choice you make is the best one for your child. The following benefits of Sepax technology will reassure you that your baby’s future is secured. n Your baby’s cord blood is processed using reliable, state-of-the-art technology. n More stem cells are recovered from the cord blood. It may be used for future treatment, increasing the chances of a successful stem cell transplant. n The processing is safe and sterile. There is no possibility of any mix-up or cross-contamination of your baby’s cord blood.
Sepax in India
Cordlife is the first stem cell bank in India to offer Sepax® 2 technology. Apart from this, Cordlife has also extended its stem cell storage tenure to 25 years. In case transplants become inevitable, the long-term storage of stem cells will ensure that the chances of a successful transplant are higher than ever.
n The technology meets international health, safety and environmental standards and ensures consumer safety. n It ensures long-term storage of your baby’s stem cells, which may help you and your family.
Metascreen Genetic Screening Even after taking precautions, your baby could develop a genetic disorder. Some of these are manageable if detected early. Metascreen
Genetic disorders are not diagnosed until a baby is specifically tested for them, so it is important for your baby to undergo a comprehensive genetic screening process. Similar to the concept of Expanded Newborn Screening, Navigene Baby Screen (NBS) tests a baby for 110 genetic disorders and recommends early intervention to reduce infant mortality rate and prevent mental and physical retardation. It is a comprehensive one-step confirmatory test that can screen a child for genetic disorders using a single sample. One of the benefits of NBS is that it is painless—your baby will not be punctured because the test requires a dried urine sample on a special filter paper. Also, there is no technical way of taking the sample and you can do it at the comfort of your home. This sample is stable at room temperature and gives desired results despite the time taken for logistics, making it rather convenient. The screening reports are quite comprehensive with minute details about your child but at the same time, the results are simple to comprehend. If the report is positive, it will be enclosed with therapy recommendations by experts to be implemented by the monitoring hospital.
It is possible to test and protect every newborn and infant against 110 genetic disorders with NBS. 6

Its 18-hole, par-72, golf course, designed by Ryder Cup player David Feherty, is still considered one of the best in Turkey. The remarkable layout of the National Golf Course ensures that no two holes are similar and this makes it a very competitive golf course. It is for the same reason that the course played a host to the PGA European Turkish Seniors Open in 1996 and 1997, and has been rated the 13th best course in the world by the readers of Germany’s Golf Journal in March 2002.
