Creativity in Three New Dimensions Now you can cut shapes, paint colourful designs, and create glittering crystal a­ ppliqués with a BERNINA sewing and embroidery machine. Use these techniques individually or in combination to explore new dimensions of creativity. Three unique accessories along with a modular software package turn your BERNINA embroidery machine into a creative multimedia machine.

The BERNINA DesignWorks Software Suite consists of three modules: CutWork, PaintWork and CrystalWork. Each module may be used independently, or in combination with the others. With the DesignWorks Software Suite and your PC, you can create unique designs to use with the PaintWork, CrystalWork and CutWork Tools.

With each of the DesignWorks modules, new designs can be created or existing embroidery files may be imported for editing. Use the CutWork module to create files for cutting custom shapes and appliqué designs. Use the PaintWork module to create designs to be drawn by your BERNINA embroidery machine. The CrystalWork module is used to create templates for glittering crystal appliqués. With the DesignWorks Software Suite and companion machine accessories, your BERNINA embroidery machine will bring your imagination to life.

Explore new possibilities and combine embroidery with CutWork, PaintWork, or CrystalWork. You’ll be amazed at the stunning effects that can be achieved – whether on clothing, accessories, crafts, or quilts.

CutWork With the CutWork Software and Tool, up to 15 layers can be cleanly cut out at once, depending on the material. Precise, even edges can be achieved quickly and easily.

First, the shapes to be cut out are designed using the CutWork Software. In place of the needle, you insert a small knife that rotates in four directions to change the cutting direction. Go wild creating wonderful cut-out effects and combining them with traditional embroidery applications. Shapes can easily be cut out and stitched on or appliquéd for three-dimensional effects. What’s more, CutWork lets you create single or multiple layers in the desired shape in a single operation when patchworking. The result: perfect quilts.

CrystalWork Embellish clothes or accessories with glittering crystal designs. First, create your own custom motif, pattern, or even lettering on the computer with the ­CrystalWork Software. Using the CrystalWork Tool in place of the needle, your DesignWorkscompatible embroidery machine will then create a custom template. Sprinkle crystals onto the template punch-holes and brush into place with a small brush. Using a heat-set appliqué, press firmly onto the template then gently lift, removing the crystals. Iron onto clothing, accessories, or any other crafting projects for instant flash. You can fill in a motif completely with crystals or simply apply them to the borders – either way, the results are sparkling!

PaintWork As of now, creating your own fabric with perfectly coloured motifs and patterns is no longer just a dream. ThePaintWork Software Module opens up even more ­possibilities for creating and editing your own designs or patterns on your PC before your DesignWorks-compatible embroidery machine begins its work. Replace the embroidery foot with the PaintWork Tool, which serves as a pen holder, and insert a fabric marker, pencil, or any drawing tool that fits into the holder. Your BERNINA paints the chosen motif onto the material in the embroidery hoop as if by magic. Embellish anything you like with painting or lettering and experiment with materials like leather, plastic, or paper – the possibilities are endless.

The BERNINA B9 hook combines the benefits of both CB and rotary systems for superb quality, fast 9mm stitching.

BERNINA Needle-Punch Tool The BERNINA needle-punch tool is compatible with all BERNINA hook systems. Using suitable woollen yarns or loose wool fibres, you can work decorative felt designs into fabrics, without the use of sewing thread.

BERNINA Sewing Light: CFL and LED The CFL light is an exceptionally bright, shadow-free BERNINA sewing light. Both light systems – CFL as well as bright, longlasting LED lights – ­illuminate the sewing area all around the needle with bright-as-day light.

Bobbin-Thread Indicator A sensor monitors the amount of thread on the bobbin. A signal and a symbol indicate when the remaining quantity of thread falls below a certain level.

Built-In Needle-Threader Device that makes it particularly easy to thread the needle.

Button-Measuring System After measuring the button size directly on the touchscreen, the buttonhole length is automatically calculated and the buttonhole can then be sewn as often as wished.

Jumbo Hoop This optional hoop (400 x 250mm or 15.7" x 9.8") lets you stitch out embroidery-motif combinations and endless-embroidery designs. The fabricclamping device with its inner hoop offers the largest p ­ ossible embroidery area and ensures excellent stability of fabric and stabiliser.

Long Stitch/Basting Stitch This feature lets you extend the maximum length of the long stitch up to 10mm (0.4"). With the basting stitch, stitches with a maximum length of up to 20mm (0.8") are possible.

Mega Hoop Extra-large embroidery hoop (400 x 150mm or 15.7" x 5.9"). Can hold designs twice as large as those contained in conventional hoops. Numerous special designs are available, and even border designs can be embroidered with the Mega Hoop.

Memory A separate memory for combinations of stitch patterns and/or alphabets. The combinations are easy to retrieve and delete, and may be adapted whenever wished.

Monograms Impressive upper-case letters sewn with the sideways-motion function.

Multifunction Knobs Rotary knobs on the sewing/embroidery machine for the infinitely variable adjustment of stitch length and width while sewing. The multifunction knobs allow you to scroll through the stitch patterns and tutorials, as well as to fine-tune the size of the embroidery designs.

Pattern Extension This function allows you to extend stitch patterns individually to several times their original length, thereby considerably increasing the number of potential decorative-stitch variations.

Stitch Animation The stitch animation always displays your current needle position as you sew. This facilitates accurate sewing, particularly when the Pattern End function has been selected for a stitch-pattern combination.

Permanent Reverse Sewing This function allows you to sew backwards for as long as wished without needing to pivot the fabric under the presser foot.

Tapering With tapering, the beginning and end of stitch ­patterns come to a point in four different basic ­angles. What’s more, the angle itself can be defined.

Personal Memory (Permanent) The default values programmed by BERNINA may be altered and saved long-term. The altered stitches remain in the memory even when the ­sewing system is switched off.

Personal Memory ( Temporary) Individual settings for stitch lengths, stitch widths and needle positions are automatically saved temporarily in the personal memory. The memory is unlimited. Settings are saved until the sewing machine is switched off.

Presser feet and soles Both the shafts and soles of BERNINA presser feet are made of solid metal.

Sitting firmly in their mounting and thus remaining absolutely still during sewing, they contribute ­decisively to BERNINA’s outstanding stitch quality.

Securing Function Programmable automatic securing of pattern combinations.

Securing Program Adds straight securing stitches at the beginning and end of seams, individual patterns and combinations.

Needle Stop This function lets you program needle position so that it pauses in the ‘down’ or ‘up’ position when the sewing process stops.
