Project done with Alyssa Purnomo, Toni Zapanta, Jakob Kryman The study model is based on Peter Zumthor’s Shelter for Roman Ruins in Chur, Swizerland recreated at a 1/8th scale. The analysis focuses on materiality and lighting within the space. The use of timber lamella slats, creates a strong filtering of light which illuminates the ruins as well as filters sounds from its surrounding building. The steel stairs and walkway lightly touches the ruins to allow visitors to appreciate the ruins without damaging the site. A diagonal section cut was made to show the effect of the light wells and to create an emphasis of the structure and materiality of the site.
