The Cheese Touch
The Silence of Water By Erin Graves The water was cold but slightly warm; it had a smooth silky texture as it silently moved between my toes. The air was fresh and clean, sunlight pierced through the trees leaving no signs of any scrap of darkness. Each time I moved through the creek, I felt the trees move with me. At that moment they were my friends. Small bushes swayed with the tiniest touch or sound from a small defenseless creature discovering a new era, hiding and finding. As I heard a deep growl, I turned for my shoes stepping out moistening every dry leaf, I knew it was time to go. But I just wanted a few more second’s to dip my fingers into the crystal blue water one last time before I go. That’s when I heard it again. As soon as I grabbed my shoes, I didn’t look back until I saw a broken swing set running with the wind. I finally got closer and saw a rusty chain barely holding on. I tried to keep moving, but I couldn’t. Something was grabbing me and pulling me back. I finally looked down to see black sharp teeth digging into my skin leaking with a color of one of my crayons resting peacefully on my kitchen table. I grabbed my leg forcing it to release me from its sharp teeth. Finally, it gave up making me jump up and more determined to get closer to the swing set. Suddenly, as I got closer I heard the growl only this time it was louder and clear. That’s when I knew I wouldn’t hear it again. “Oh, thank god,” my Dad said. “Where have you been? I’ve been looking for you everywhere”. I was at the creek. “Next time let me know where you end up at.” I hopped in my overly bouncy seat and we were all using the sunset as our star to navigate us to Kroger.

FAMILIES (A letter to my Peers)
Having a family is a joyous feeling. Helping your family is coming together as a team. Everyone has an important role in their family. When a member of the team does not take their part seriously, the family could fall apart. There are things that we all need help with rather you need help with school or tying your shoe. What is your role in your family? In my family, I am the middle child of three siblings. As a middle child, I am second to the oldest. I am the only boy in the house because my brother works during the evening. I take out the trash. I cut the grass and wash the car. These are the things that I do as part of the team. My dad has not lived with us in five years. He had the most important role in the family and he didn’t do his part. Him not taking care of his role as the man in the family means growing up I did not have a father figure to teach me. Remember-do your part. Sincerely, Jacorey Jones

A lways be the best you can be. Be kind even when your tired. Be understanding even when your mad. Do more than your asked and don’t ask for anything in return. Don’t silently expect anything either, listen when someLike moths, good people one talks, and really listen too. are attracted to flame Don’t think about how your going to reply next. Tell people that and they will soon come you love them and that you apto you. preciate them. Go out of your way to do things for people. Be the greatest you can possibly be and when you mess up, make up for it in the next moment or minute or day. One thing you should never do. Never spend your time trying to prove to anybody that your great, your actions will speak for themselves and we only have limited time on this earth, don’t waste it. If someone doesn’t see your light, don’t worry. Like moths, good people are attracted to flame and they will soon come to you.
A Small Fib by Ashley Hernandez
My best friend Christina’s birthday had just past. We had planned to go to Six Flags for her birthday. But unfortunately there was a huge weather problem. There was harsh winds and thunderstorms. I mean I guess we probably should have all planned better. My birthday was in two months so I wanted to plan thoroughly for my birthday to be amazing. The next day at lunch we all sat together me, Katya and Christina. We started to plan what we would do. Our idea initially was to go to the mall but then I suggested Dave’s and Buster’s. I mean who doesn’t love Dave’s and Buster’s. So as we decided on what times to go I knew my Dad worked late so I said around 5:30 p.m. There was one question I tried really hard to avoid. That question was who was going to pay. Eventually, I was asked who was going to pay and thank goodness I had no time to answer because the bell rang.
For the next few weeks my friend Katya kept insisting, who was paying? So I told a small fib that my dad was paying for everything. Besides I didn’t think a small fib could cause so much trouble. Days and weeks passed by fast until only a week was left until my birthday. Then I realized how I was supposed to tell my dad that for my birthday I wanted to go to Dave’s and Buster’s and that he was going to pay for 5 kids’ game cards and food. So for the next 2 days I came up with reasons on why he should do it. The night before I presented my case to my dad as if we were in court. He said, “It depends Ashley, I don’t know if I can make it home at that specific time”. Then he told me to go to sleep because it was time for bed. The next day I was very anxious. I mean I wanted to tell my friends the truth which was I lied and the grand Dave and Buster’s Bash may not happen. As I walked to class, I tried to gather some courage to tell the truth. But that didn’t turn out so good. The only thing I said was that the time was changed from 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. It was the day of and I was about to have a panic attack because my dad just broke the news. He explained, “I have 2 job locations today so we may not make it hope you didn’t plan it and say I said yes”. The first job location was completed about 4:00 p.m. so I was calm and peaceful. Time passed by very quickly and it was about 5:40 p.m. My dad was tomato red when I told him the truth. Fortunately, we got there on time and we had an amazing time.
The True Colors of Reality By Imanol Hernandeze
It happened over time. I started to see the true colors of reality. It’s not all rainbows and sunshine. It can be dark or sad. Some people find happiness. They meet the love of their life or have kids. As a kid, I learn a lot of things. Somethings are sad; but not the stuff I learn will be happy. I like history. It tells me how the world was. I learned that the world isn’t really as nice as I thought it would be. Sure, it has amazing places but you need money to see these places and not everyone can travel. I thought everyone loved everyone. But that’s not true. Some people don’t like others cause of their skin color. For me, I don’t understand why you shouldn’t like someone cause of their skin color. I use to watch the news. But stopped cause of how sad it is. Most of it was about people stealing or car crashes. Some of the time it would be about how a person did a good deed. That’s the news I wanted to watch. The happy stuff. One thing I don’t understand is they call this place the land of the free. But when people try to come here they get rejected because they have no papers. But the only way to get here is illegally. Those people come here for a better life. Now I hear how thousands of people being sent back and how families are being ripped apart. That makes me sad. I could never imagine being ripped apart from my family. That’s why I’m told to enjoy life because I have a family, a home and food on the table everyday. I’m still learning about life and how it works. My hope is to live it happily.

Guess Who
One Day Again by Katya Vela Bocard
One of my best small moments in my life was when I got in a car and went to Mexico to spend time with my family. It was a very long trip from Atlanta to Mexico at least a 2 day drive, but it was worth it. When I cross the border, I was finally in Mexico. I still had more hours to go to my hometown. But when I got to my hometown, I saw all of my family waiting for me. I saw aunts, uncles, cousins and my grandparents. I hugged all of them. I was so happy to see them again. I hadn’t seen them in 3 years. We were all starving. We got some delicious food to celebrate my visit. We were eating, laughing, and having a good time. After I was done eating, I went to unpack my suitcase. My cousins helped me unpack. When we were done unpacking we went to the store, me and of my cousins. We bought cookies, chips, juices, sodas, candy and gum. We didn’t finish all of the stuff. Next, we went outside to play cops and robbers. The cops had to watch the robbers while the robbers try to run across the cops without getting caught. Some of my cousins were cops and me and the rest of my cousins were robbers. We all tried to run across at the same time so they could get confused but my other cousins that were the cops were in a straight line like a wall. All of the robbers got caught so we were put in jail. It was getting super late so we all decided to stay over at my grandparents’ house. The next morning we all took a shower and left to get us some breakfast. When we were all done eating, we all went to a place where they sell a lot of movies. My cousins and I purchased a lot of movies. We got home all of us ran to the T.V. We watched about 2 or 3 movies. After we watched the movies we all went to climb a mountain were we got a lot of fruit. We got home and were super tired but we still ate all of the fruit. Later, we played tag and then ate dinner. We were talking about all the fun stuff we were going to do. It was super late so we all went home. One month later passed and we had to leave Mexico. We had a last family reunion. We had a lot of food, drinks and sadness. I had to pack my suitcase. I finished packing and I went to take a shower. After I took a shower, I ate. My cousins and I went outside to play tag but in the dark. It was fun. Then my cousins said they were going to stay over for the last time. We made jokes while were eating and laughing. Finally we went to sleep. Then the time came when I had to say goodbye to all of my family. I put my suitcase in the car and then I got into the car. They waved and I waved goodbye to them. I was sad but I knew I was coming back. I didn’t know when I was coming back, but I was coming back One day.
True Scars by SaraJah Hanner
In
the year 2015,
Alissa Cara’s Scars to your Beautiful was released. It amazed millions of people around the world, but not because of who sings it. It was because of the meaning it has behind it. This song explains how girls and boys of all ages have low self esteem and insecurities within themselves. In my opinion, this happens at least one time in everyone's life when you compare or put hate towards yourself.
Scars to your Beautiful
But in the music video, there are people with bigger problems. People that have gotten bullied by society because of the way they look, think or just based on the condition of there health. In the video, there’s a little girl with cancer; there’s a woman with skin and hair problems; a boy with autism and a transgender. They share their life and childhood story through Alissa Cara’s beautiful voice on top of it sending a wonderful message to everyone. “Your weakness turns out to be your greatest strengths.” If you are different, you’re still human, your still beautiful, you’re wonderful. No matter what, being different is just apart of your greatness. There are always going to be people to judge you, hate you, criticize you or make you feel bad. But just remember, the scars to your beautiful are your beauty.
The ‘Cheese’ Touch By Investigative Reporter Elijah Koonce
A
social killer arrived one sad
day at a special middle school with a touch so loathed then and still is by all students. The horrid cheese touch. It repelled all who came near it. As one of the locals said, “It got more powerful by the day”. A kid who goes by the name of Gregory Heffly or “Greg” almost fell victim to it. The last time it was seen or heard of was when a German exchange student was given the horrible curse and at a loss of translation; the exchange student went back to his home country. The putrid cheese stayed there laying on the ground awaiting it’s next victim. This very touch was a living legend to the kids, and not in a good way. Luckily this group of middle schoolers will be sensible enough to never touch it again.

It’s a Goal! by Dwaynie Berduo
It was 6:00 a.m. in the morning and I had to wake up for a soccer game but not only a soccer game; It was the semi-final! As I went to wash my face. I felt excited because it was going to be extraordinary, but at the same time I felt nervous. As we were getting there, I felt more nervous than usual. But I tried to calm myself. When I got out the car, I saw my coach waiting for me and my other teammates to come. As my teammates arrived one by one, I felt butterflies in my stomach but that didn’t stop me. As the referee blew his whistle it was time for the game and I was ready. As time passed, we were tired and the game was about to end. I passed the ball to my teammate as he took the ball everyone from outside was cheering but then the other guy from the other team tripped my teammate. So it was a penalty. Everyone was nervous. There was only one minute on the time and if we didn’t make this goal it was going to be a tie. As my teammate grabbed the ball and putted on the circle everyone got silent. And when the referee blew his whistle my teammate kicked the ball and … Goal!!! Everyone was happy and then the referee blew his whistle and we won the game. My teammates and I were yelling, “We’re going to the final!!! Then, we all went to celebrate at Rodes Jordan Park. There was pizza, chips, juice, soda and everything. As the week passed, I was excited because it was time for the finals. As we arrived everyone was there, but the coach didn’t put me in. I was frustrated because I wanted to play and there was only 5 minutes and we were losing by one goal. As I got in the field, they passed the ball to me and I passed the ball to my teammate again and he scored. Now we only needed one goal for the win. As my teammate passed the ball to me and I took the ball and, and …. Goal!! At the last minute I got us the win. We were all happy now it was time to receive our medals and the cup. We were excited more than ever. As I got home I told everything to my dad. He was proud of me. And when the next season start I’m going to make him proud.
