Annah Stanton Brown will be crowned queen at the 52nd annual Festival on the Brazos Friday, April 22, 2022 at the Waco Convention Center. Annah is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanton Boyce Brown. She is granddaughter of Mrs. Margaret Cannon Boyce Brown

and the late Mr. Shepherd Spencer Neville Brown, Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sanford McClane of San Antonio.

A creative, outgoing and optimistic high school senior, Annah said she has tried to grow and learn from the challenges she and other teens faced over the past two years.

"I think everyone goes through periods where they feel disheartened about the world, especially with the pandemic,” Annah said. “Those experiences make us so much stronger and deepen our connection with God. The world can be harsh, but you don’t have to lose your spirit. I’ve learned to look for the good in everyone because I would rather live assuming people are good. I know things will never be the same, but I hope people find their inner peace. Everyone has their own battles, everyone was hurt in a different way. I hope the families that were hurt can heal. I’m very thankful that things are bouncing back.”

Annah hails from a long line of Wacoans and local festival royalty, dating back to the original Texas Cotton Palace in the early 1900s. Her lineage includes her great grandfather’s uncle, A.J. Dossett, who was the 1919 King; her great- grandmother, Margaret Owen Curtis Boyce, who was the 1921 Duchess of Amarillo; and a cousin, Sarah Dossett Kendall, who was the 1929 Texas Cotton Palace Queen.

Following a more recent line of family members who have participated in the local tradition, Annah’s heritage includes the original founding general chairman of the pageant’s revival. Her grandmother, Margaret Cannon Boyce Brown, was one of the team of community-minded women who, beginning in 1969, researched and worked to create what is now the long-standing Waco tradition of Festival on the Brazos.

Annah’s father, S. Boyce Brown, was a Royal Escort in 1982 and King in 2016. Her aunt, Margaret Brown Lewis, was Queen in 1975. In 1977, Annah’s grandfather, Spencer Brown, Sr., was crowned King. And in 1980, another aunt, Stanton Brown Sattler was named Queen.

Annah’s cousins, Elise Brown and Camilla Brown Custis reined as Queen in 2009 and 2011, respectively. Annah and her sister, Lella Sue (Susie) McClane Brown, were Royal Attendants to their Queen cousins in 2009 and 2011. Susie was crowned Queen in 2020, which was celebrated in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"This year marks the last of my parent’s grandchildren to serve in the royal courts,” Boyce Brown said. “It is a special, reflective year, that spans over a hundred years of heritage, including my grandmother’s participation in the 1921 Texas Cotton Palace. We look for-

ward to celebrating the work of countless volunteers to revive one of the oldest and most renown of the Texas pageants, and a great heritage to “lift up our hearts” to the Lord in the spirit of hospitality, graciousness and welcoming that has marked our community for generations.”

Annah’s mother, Len, has been involved in Festival on the Brazos for many years too, serving on the wardrobe, educational outreach and production committees. Boyce and Len have sponsored many out-of-town court members over the years and, five years ago, joined in the tradition of hosting a farewell brunch on the lawn of the family home.

Love of learning Annah is a senior at Vanguard College Preparatory School where she is a member of National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and is on the Honor Roll. She’s served as a teaching assistant in both history and science classes and was student council representative her sophomore year and vice president her junior year.

Annah also is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and cofounder of Vanguard’s Historical Female Authors Club. Her favorite subject, Annah said, is biology.

“My goal is to double major in biology and finance,” Annah said. “I love biology so much because of the patterns and systems that answer all my questions about how the world works.

Sometimes when things seem chaotic, biology seems to bring order to my world. I just love studying life and how incredible it is that living organisms find a way to adapt to their environment, even in the most harsh conditions.”

Biology has given Annah a greater appreciation for life itself.

“There is never a time where I am not in awe of something I learn from biology,” she said.

She’s also a lover of language and literature.

“I have always loved English and writing,” Annah said. “I love analyzing the works of writers and grabbing a deeper understanding of what they really aspire to achieve through their text.”

Naturally, some of her best-loved teachers are her biology and English teachers.

“Michalea McCown may well be the reason I fell in love with biology,” Annah said. “She is the person who really opened my eyes to the world and sparked my curiosity deep down inside of me. She is the most encouraging, optimisitc teacher I have ever had. She just has this natural talent to show you a deeper understanding of something that might seem so simple, but in truth, is the most intricate system you could ever imagine, which allowed me to feel very passionate about this subject.”

Jenn Ferreter, she said, taught her how to learn and study for AP classes.

“One thing I love about her teaching is that whether in AP Euro, AP Literature, or AP Art History, she always finds a way to empathize with people from the subject,” Annah said. “In English she always finds a way to really dig deep into what the author is thinking when they are writing which allows you to really appreciate the emotion and passion that writer has. It inspires you to have that same passion. I would not be where I am today if it were not for Mrs. Ferretter.”

This fall, Annah will attend Southern Methodist University’s Cox School of Business, as part of the Business Honors Program and the Hilltop Honors School. She said she’s looking forward to spreading her wings in college.

“I am just excited to experience what real independence feels like,” Annah said.

Serving her community Annah said she believes it is important to learn the significance community service of early in life. The in-town Festival on the Brazos court members have a combined 2,000+ hours of community service under their belts.

“I think it’s good to grab an understanding of the state of the community at a young age because growing up with certain privileges, you don't always get the chance to see the struggle of other people's lives,” she said. “So volunteer-

I want to be the person who connects everyone together in new ways.” ing can be an eye-opening experience because usually you don't really understand how bad things are until you witness them in person.

And being there to help in any way you can, even if it's as simple as moving groceries to their car, is a fulfilling experience. It also plants seeds of vital leader characteristics such as integrity, selflessness and empathy.”

Cultural and civic organizations are important to Annah, as well.

“Waco Civic Theatre would probably be my favorite place to volunteer,” she said. “It is just really a lot of fun. You get to run concessions which was always my favorite part. I liked keeping busy and running around like crazy serving people left and right. I am good at getting things done efficiently, so I think the speed was exhilarating and fueled my work ethic.

Also, as a reward, you get to watch the shows.

You always see people you know too, which is delightful, and enhances the experience even more being able to serve your community first hand.”

Annah is a member of National Charity League, served as a Waco Symphony Belle, and was an acolyte at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

She also said she learned a lot about homelessness and hunger by taking part in the Mission Waco Poverty Simulation weekend.

Fun, friends and faith When she’s not at school, hanging out with friends or cuddling with her favorite Siamese cat Snickerdoodle, Annah is an accomplished dancer. She has danced with Expressions Dance Studio for five years and is on the senior team.

“Ballet, contemporary and lyrical are my favorite types of dance because I love the emotional side of dance and those really bring that out in me. I love the technicality of ballet and the beautiful lines you create with your body and how delicate it is.”

She also enjoys the company of her friends.

And when it comes to them, Annah said she looks for certain characteristics.

“Integrity is a big one for me,” she said. “It is the No.1 characteristic of a leader and just displays that you have respect for everyone, and at the same time, are willing to prioritize your own values over the peer pressure of groups. It also means that you keep your promises. To me, this just translates as someone who values their word and thought, is careful about what they commit to, and are very purposeful people.”

Annah says she’s committed to working on developing positive characteristics in herself.

“Something I have been working on is true confidence,” Annah said. “To me, confidence doesn't mean you think you are better than everyone else. It just means you love yourself and try to inspire others to be confident in themselves.”

Annah inspires others to reach for their dreams, including her mother, Len. “She reminds me, through her example, that anything is possible with passion and perseverance,” Len said. “Annah is a very passionate person who doesn't quit when it comes to achieving her own dreams and standing up for what she believes is right.”

Faith is also very important to Annah, she said.

“God has helped me through the toughest times when I wanted to give up so bad, but he kept telling me to have faith,” she said. “And that's still something I'm working on. I am still strengthening my connection and my relationship with Him. God is always there for me, even when I am not there for myself. He teaches me daily what it means to be human, what my life's purpose is and how to help others move in the right direction. I feel he uses me daily, even in the little things, like expressing my passions in a way that inspires others to do the same and follow Him.” And she’s proud to call herself a hard worker.

“I love working hard for something, setting goals and achieving them even with high standards,” Annah said. “I feel as though I am constantly competing with myself to be better, and school is definitely one of the things that taught me that. I love learning new things as well because it feeds my curiosity.”

Annah’s dad describes her as a smart, talented and achievement-driven young woman.

“She loves a challenge, and works hard with Churchillian dedication,” he said. “She cares a great deal about doing what is right, being a supportive friend and getting the right things done. And she loves to do it with a creative and artistic touch.”

Life in Waco Growing up in Waco, and being fortunate to travel to many other places, Annah said she does love living in a small town.

“I do love the small city vibe,” she said. “It feels close and connected and I love the guarantee of seeing people I know in public.

People are so nice and polite in Waco as well.

You can always count on a friendly neighbor to make your day."

Favorite spots where you might run into Annah and her friends? Browsing books at Fabled Book Shop, sipping coffee at Dichotomy, grabbing a pizza at Moroso or chilling in the “senior lounge” at Vanguard.

Annah said she is excited to show everyone at the Festival, especially the out-of-towners, what Waco is all about.

Annah’s gown was inspired by a vintage 1940’s Christian Dior gown. The two-piece gown is made from five different fabrics. The bodice is made of a French blue metallic crepe silk with a beautiful embroidered gold sequin floral lace overlay. The elegant bateau neckline is adorned with a three inch heavily stoned vintage Swarovski crystal trim. This vintage trim is also used at the edge of the sleeves and dropped waistline. The skirt is made up of forty one different petals sewn of a French blue diamond quilted brocade, a gold textured two toned lame, and a gold sequin mesh. The petals are layered in eight rows that gradually get larger. Each row of petals has a different Swarovski crystal trim. The trims gently increase to compliment the size of each row of petals on the train, which extends to a length of 36 inches on the floor. The front of the Queen’s skirt has the stunning embroidered gold sequin floral lace overlay that is also on the bodice. The entire dress is then embellished in over 200 gold beaded discs, 300 mirrored stones, and 1500 hand placed Swarovski crystals. Designed by Suzanne Shelton, the gown was fabricated by Clara Chumney in her San Antonio studio. Chumney has brought festival gown designs to life for more than three decades.

In her sparkling gown and the traditional festival regalia, Annah said she’s ready for the weekend to begin.

“I hope everyone finds something they really love about Waco that makes them want to visit more,” Annah said, “and that they make connections with people who might become lifelong friends.”

Mary Catherine Young Mary Catherine Young is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. D. Jeffrey Young and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald H. Young of Waco. Mary Catherine was a Royal Attendant in 2012 and her father was a Royal Escort in 1980. She attends Midway High School, where she was a cheerleader and in Spanish Club. She is an Academic Letterman and also participates in Peer Assisted Leadership Strategies (PALS). She received the Spirit of Midway award for two years and served on the Homecoming Court. Mary Catherine is a member and assistant instructor of Ignite Dance Company Competitive Dance Team. She was a Waco Symphony Belle and graduated from Teen Leadership Waco. She is a member of National Charity League and received the Modelette Award and the Mother Daughter Award. She has attended TBarM Camp for 10 years. Mary Catherine attends Harris Creek Baptist Church. She will attend TCU in the fall.

Mary Elizabeth Barnhill is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M.

Baird and Mr. Kirk Allen Baird of Waco. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stuart B. McKay of Waco and Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Baird, formerly of Waco. Her father was a Royal Escort in 1985. Katie attends Midway High School, where she is a member of Peer Assistance Leadership Strategies (PALS), the Midway Partners PE, the Spanish Club and the yearbook staff. She is a recipient of the 2021 Press Women of Texas Award. She was a Waco Symphony Belle and is a 10-year camper at Camp Mystic, where she will work as a counselor this summer. She is a member of First Presbyterian Church. Katie will attend the University of Mississippi in the fall.

Bryon Barnhill and the granddaughter of Dr. and Mrs. Michael Robinson, all of Waco. She attends Midway High School, where she is a Spirit of Midway recipient. Mary Beth is a student athletic trainer and a member of FFA and the Select Women’s Choir. She was a Waco Symphony Belle and has volunteered with Night to Shine, the Prom Closet, Family Abuse Center, the Waco Civic Theatre and Fuzzy Friends. She served as secretary and historian for the National Charity League and has taken mission trips to Boston and Alaska.

She also has been a counselor at Camp Pettijohn. She is a member of Crestview Church of Christ. She will attend Baylor University in the fall.

Jillian Haddox Brennan

Jillian Haddox Brennan is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Kevin Brennan and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Haddox. She attends Midway High School, where she is a member of the Peer Assisted Leadership Strategies (PALS), is an MPact student and received the Spirit of Midway Award. Gigi is co-editor of the Midway High School Yearbook and has received photography awards in UIL and HOT Fair competitions. She is a member of National Charity League and received the Mother Daughter Award. She also was a Waco Symphony Belle and has volunteered with Caritas and The Cove. She is a member of Harris Creek Baptist Church. After trips to Mexico and New York City this summer, Gigi will attend Abilene Christian University in the fall.

Ava Constanza Clevenger is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Lee Clevenger of Waco. She attends Midway High School, where she is a member of National Honor Society. She is a National Merit Commended Scholar, a National Spanish Exam Gold Medalist and an Academic Letterman. She is a member of the Midway Chamber Singers and Meistersingers, and was selected for Region Choir. She also participates in Spanish Club and Common Ground Club. Ava was a Waco Symphony Belle and a member of National Charity League, where she served as president of her class. She has served as a counselor at Camp Allen. She is an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Ava will attend the University of Texas at Austin in the fall.

Taylor Grace Felton

Taylor Grace Felton is the daughter of Ms. JoAn Taylor Felton and Mr. Mark Preston Felton, II. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Heyde and the late Mr. Roy M. Taylor, III, Mr. Thomas Felton and the late Mrs. Nan Felton of Waco. Taylor’s mother was a Royal Attendant in 1979 and a Princess in 1990. Taylor attends Waco High School, where she is an Academic Achiever, an AP Scholar, and a member of National Honor Society. She plays varsity tennis and participates in debate and mock trial.

Taylor was a Waco Symphony Belle and a member of the Junior Mayflower Society and National Charity League. She attends St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

She will attend the University of Texas at Austin in the fall.

Courtney Lynne Janecka

Courtney Lynne Janecka is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Darrell M. Janecka and the granddaughter of Mr. Carey Hobbs and the late Brenda Hobbs of Waco. Her mother was a Princess in 1986. Courtney attends Midway High School, where she is a member of National Honor Society. She is a Congressional Award Gold Medal recipient and a National Spanish Exam Award recipient. She also is a four-year recipient of the Spirit of Midway award. Courtney is a member of the Midway Chamber Singers and the Spanish Club. She served on the Homecoming Court and has volunteered with the Historic Waco Foundation and was a Waco Symphony Belle. She is an active member of First Baptist Church of Woodway. She will attend the University of Texas at Austin this fall.

Avery Anne Haynes

Avery Anne Haynes is the daughter of Drs. Katherine and David Haynes and the granddaughter of Mrs. Ann Patrick of Waco. She attends Vanguard College Preparatory School, where she is a member of National Honor Society and the Quill and Scroll Honor Society. Avery is a National Merit Finalist and an AP Scholar with Distinction, as well as co-president of the Chemistry Club and a member of Mu Alpha Theta. She is co-captain of varsity tennis, yearbook editor and a Vanguard Ambassador. She was a Waco Symphony Belle and is a graduate of Teen Leadership Waco. Avery also is a member of National Charity League. She attended Camp Mystic and is a member of First United Methodist Church. She will attend Vanderbilt University in the fall.

Sarah Ashley Stephens

Sarah Ashley Stephens is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Matthew James Stephens. She attends Waco High School, where she is an Academic Achiever and a member of National Honor Society. Sarah is captain of the varsity tennis team. She has participated in mock trial for four years and served as team captain this year. She also has participated in Waco High’s choir program and performed in the Waco High theater’s productions of Pippin and White Christmas. Sarah was a Waco Symphony Belle and a member of National Charity League. She coaches pre-school and elementary gymnastics and tumbling classes. She has attended Laity Lodge Youth Camp and will work as a counselor this summer. She will attend the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University this fall.

Festival on the Brazos Ambassador 2022

Hatch Mansell Bailey will serve as Ambassador at the 52nd annual Festival on the Brazos set for Friday, April 22, 2022 at the Waco Convention Center. A lifelong Wacoan, who is all about family and community, Bailey looks forward to representing his city throughout the festival weekend.

“This is a tremendous honor,” Hatch said. “I feel very humbled. I’ve had people tell me from the time I was a teenager that I’m a great ambassador for Waco, but to me, it comes so easy to speak highly of Waco. I literally cannot think of one single drawback to our city. Not one.

What’s not to like about Waco?”

Ambassador Bailey said the title makes him feel validated for having always tried to be a positive voice for the city.

“I really don’t think I do any more than others, and surely a lot less than some, but it does feel good to be the one recognized this year,” he said. “I accept the honor on behalf of many friends and family members who came before me and with whom I surround myself. This honor is for them.”

Hatch is the son of the late Roberta Hatch and Arthur William (Bill) Bailey, Jr., also lifelong Wacoans. He has four sons, Baxter, Barrett, Brennan and Brooklin with his late wife Yvonne Mize Bailey.

Baxter Hatch Bailey works alongside his father at the family business Wilkirson-HatchBailey, a local funeral home that celebrates its 97th anniversary this year. Barrett Mansell Bailey of Waco works in residential real estate with Coldwell Banker. Brennan Mize Bailey of Dallas is the Chief Product Officer for a freight technology startup based out of Dallas. Brennan and his wife, Laura, have a daughter, Lily Yvonne, and two sons, Luke Hartman and George Daniel.

Brooklin Ray Bailey lives in Johannesburg, South

Africa and plays pro golf on the Sunshine Tour and the Challenge Tour, which is European, as he’s an affiliate member of the European Tour.

The family has been involved in the Festival on the Brazos for more than four decades, as Hatch was a Royal Escort in 1978. Three of his sons were Royal Escorts and the fourth was a Royal Attendant.

“My wife and I were in the the ballroom scene one year and they kept wanting to tighten her corset and yet she was pregnant, but we weren’t telling anyone,” Hatch said. “We laughed about that for years. I’ve also sponsored a few members of the royal court from out of town and enjoyed that.”

Hatch’s parents built a house that was “the ideal family home,” he said, when they were in their early 20s. They reared their three sons in it and lived there for 60 years until they died. From his parents, Hatch said he learned much about life — and living.

“How to balance ambition and contentment, how to work with family in a family business, the power of a self-disciplined tongue, the power of a well delivered word, the importance of a balanced life, the pleasure in close friendships that span the decades,” he said. “Through watching them, I learned how to honor your parents, how to support your children as they become unique individuals, respect for others, the joy in quietly giving, how to prioritize. They showed me how to keep my relationship with Jesus Christ first — followed by my late wife and then our children and our family business. They taught me how to play, how to compromise,

how to tithe, to honor a confidentiality, to consider other points of view, to forgive myself.”

As an eighth grader, Hatch was a charter student of Vanguard College Preparatory School and graduated high school there in 1978. I graduated from Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science in 1982. He graduated from Baylor University with a BA degree in 1984 where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

“On the very first day of my freshman year, I was having breakfast in the dormitory and up walked a really cute girl with a beautiful smile,” Hatch said. “Her name was Yvonne and she asked if she could join me. Five years later, we married within walking distance from Baylor in the historic First Baptist Church of Waco.”

Their children were the fifth generation of the family to be members of the church. Yvonne and Hatch were married one month short of 24 years when she died in 2007 from complications of Melanoma.

“I’m not sure what she’d say about my being Ambassador, but I feel certain she wouldn’t let the honor go to my head,” he said.

In 1925, Hatch’s great-grandfather Wilkirson, along with his son-in-law, Roy Hatch, who was Hatch’s grandfather, founded Wilkirson & Hatch Funeral Home. Today, the business is known as Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home.

“When I was 17 years old, my father’s parents died just 10 days apart, which had a profound effect on my life,” Hatch said. “Overnight I felt the Lord calling me to join the folks there in serving families. I started the next summer and have been there ever since. One of my sons

works with us in the business, representing the fifth generation of our family to do so.”

When a loved one dies, it’s a sacred moment.

Hatch said it means the world to him when a family calls him for help during such a tender time.

“I consider it a great honor,” he said. “I feel it a great privilege to get to be with a family during just such a time. My profession allows me to experience deep connections with people and I love that. Frankly, I’m not much into shallow friendships, but rather I’m attracted to deep relationships, and I love that I get to work with such diverse families from all walks of life.”

Hatch says he did not grow up in the funeral business, because neither of his parents worked there, but rather that he grew up around the funeral business.

“My grandfather worked there, and he often took me there for one reason or another,” he said.

“By the time I started working there, I already knew all my co-workers on a first name basis. I even already knew most of their spouses, as it really is a family atmosphere. My grandfather Hatch was my role model in my career. I learned a lot from several of my co-workers as well; however, each of them was trained by my grandfather, so he was really the role model for all of us.”

Honesty and integrity are the qualities Hatch believes are most important in a business, as well as sincerity and thoughtfulness when it comes to the funeral business.

Causes that are nearest and dearest to Hatch’s heart are ones dealing with safety, health and education, especially when serving children and the elderly. He has served as president of the board of directors for two private schools. Most recently, he has been serving on the board of directors of Community Healthcare of Texas, which is the largest non-profit hospice organization in the state.

“I feel it’s important for everyone to pitch in and do something,” Hatch said. “Every little thing we do makes a difference. I feel it’s great for people to get involved at a young age so that it becomes a way of life.”

When he thinks of Festival on The Brazos, Hatch said he thinks it’s a fun way to honor some people who’ve been very active in the community, offering themselves in service to others.

“Many out-of-town guests are invited to participate in the Festival and those are ones who’ve been active in community services in the towns and cities where they live,” he said. “By honoring young people who are active in community service, it promotes more and more community service and that’s a very good thing for everyone.”

A member of First Baptist Church of Waco, Hatch said he loves the diversity of its members.

“My church is like home base to me,” he said.

“I don’t claim to be there in person on a regular basis. My attendance and involvement is more sporadic. But please make no mistake about it: I am most definitely a man of faith with a very personal relationship with Jesus Christ, The Lord.

He is The Son of God, my personal Savior and best friend.”

Hatch designed a family crest that is based on one pictured on a book of Bailey history, and on the crest written in Latin is the phrase, “Dei

Providentia Me Sustinet” which translates “The Divine Guidance of God Sustains Me.” He even had it carved in stone above his fireplace at home.

Hatch is involved in a weekly Bible study, which is on Zoom, with his brothers, Roy and Wes. “We call it Bailey Brothers Bible Study or BBBS. Typically we have 70 folks from around the nation and other continents who join us. It’s very special to my brothers and me to be doing this together.”

In his spare time, Hatch said he is not one who has to be doing something and that he’s not a thrill seeker.

“I don’t even need to go anywhere,” he said.

“I’m pretty content just sitting on the screened porch or fireside and watching sports or Netflix on TV. I especially love these times when shared with family or friends. I enjoy the finer things in life, so to speak and yet, I’m actually pretty casual and simplistic. I enjoy fine dining, but it’s hard to beat greasy comfort food. I enjoy browsing through a beautiful antique shop or art gallery; however, more times than not, you’re just going to find me in old jeans and a tee shirt and likely barefoot. I thoroughly enjoy being with friends and family although I’m one who needs some alone time too.”

Though he does not travel as much as he used to, Hatch said a favorite place of his has been Jackson Hole, Wyoming. More recently, Hatch has enjoyed attending The Masters with a couple of his sons and cheering on the Baylor men’s basketball team with one of his sons at The Final Four and our football team with another of my sons at The Sugar Bowl.

“I enjoy sitting by the pool in the evenings and putting down a cheeseburger and fries followed by a vanilla malt,” he said. “More than other pleasures in life I love spending time with my grandchildren. There’s just nothing like it.

They call me “Skinny” which makes me smile.”

Hatch’s sidekick is an eight-year-old tricolor Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Benkenhall Sunshine Jackson Bailey.

“I call him Jackson because of my love for Jackson Hole,” he said. “He goes to the office with me more days than not.”

In true Ambassador fashion, Hatch is one of Waco’s biggest cheerleaders.

“Waco is often a misperceived city,” he said.

“It’s often looked at as a small town, but that’s really just because it’s surrounded by large cities, including the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex, Austin, San Antonio and Houston. We’ve got the best location within the state. We’re big enough to have most everything you’d want, yet small enough that it’s a friendly, charming town. I’ve heard Waco described as what Austin used to be.

I’ve also heard Waco described as the spot within the United States where the deep south meets the wild wild west. It’s kind of a hard city to describe in words, but one thing’s for sure: the people here are second to none. It’s a fantastic town in which to rear a family."

Hatch thinks one of Waco’s best qualities is its ability to attract and keep good people.

“I am grateful that Waco has people from all walks of life,” he said. “I love the diversity found in Waco. One way you can really tell a lot about

someone is by how they care for others. My career affords me a front row seat to observe how Waco people care for others during what’s usually one of the hardest times, if not the hardest time, in a person’s life. I’d put our people up against the people of any city not just in Texas, but in the United States. I believe you can tell how successful a city is not necessarily by the number of people in the city, but by the diversity of the people in the city. Using that philosophy as a measuring stick so to speak, it’s clear that Waco is a very successful city.”

Some of Hatch’s favorite spots about town: the Foyer of Meditation in The Armstrong Browning Library, which is located on the Baylor campus; the historic church St. Francis on the Brazos; Ridgewood Country Club, next to Lake Waco; El Conquistador on Waco Drive, Diamondbacks downtown, and Dubl-R Old Fashioned Hamburgers.

"My very favorite place, though, is at the dinner table with a handful of family and friends who are like family, whether it be at home or in their home,” Hatch said. “I don't cook, but I love for others to cook in my kitchen. Conversations are always interesting and there's plenty of laughter and often some real fun belly laughs, as I call them."

Over the past two years, which have been tumultuous for all, Hatch said he has tried to grow from the experience.

“I’ve faced the reality of challenges that came our way,” he said. “And I’ve observed how others handled it. I don’t think there’s a right or wrong way. It depends on many factors. I’ve tried hard not to judge anyone, but rather to just be supportive to those who – just like me – are trying, really trying to make the most of it, to learn from it, to come out stronger, less judgemental, more compassionate. In a word, better for it.”

He believes events like Festival on the Brazos can help people heal.

“I believe that life is a gift from God and meant to be like a festival,” he said. “But we live amid chaos, sadness and tremendous challenges.

Festivals help us stay balanced as we live amid all the tough stuff in this fallen world so take in plenty of festivals along life’s way, in moderation of course.”

Throughout the festival weekend, Hatch said he hopes his sincere friendliness and genuine appreciation for everyone involved, especially all of our out of town guests, comes through loud and clear.

“I want our out-of-town guests to recognize that Waco is truly a very nice city with very nice people, that we have a lot to offer, and that we’re a great spot for a long weekend getaway,” he said. “It’s a wonderful location for a business, because we are a city with something for everyone whether a frontline worker, the CEO or anyone in between. The fact is that we really do all need each other at some point and to some degree. With all our diversities, we can truly compliment each other and get along beautifully, quite harmoniously. It’s a great place to earn an education, to be a newlywed, to start a family, to rear a family, to be an empty nester, to be a grandparent, to be retired, to be an elderly citizen — we have it all."

AVERY BRIDGES BRAZELTON is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Walter Brazelton of Houston. Avery attends The Kinkaid School where she is a high honor roll student, an AP Scholar with Honors, and a National Merit Commended Scholar. Additionally, Avery is a three-time recipient of the Presidential Volunteer Service Award. She is the vice-president of the Kinkaid Service Leadership Council, co-founder of the Kinkaid Four Core Values Club, and a member of the ceramics club. Avery enjoys volunteering her time with the National Charity League, serving as president her junior year; she is also a Kinkaid student project leader for community service. Avery attends Grace Bible Church where she teaches Sunday school. She plans to study business at the University of Virginia this fall.

MARY LOUISE BUCHEK is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Wallace Buchek, Jr. of San Antonio. Her father was a Royal Escort in 1993 and her mother was a Duchess in 1995. Mary Louise attends Alamo Heights High School where she is a member of National Honor Society, Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica, and student council. Mary Louise was the recipient of the Presidential Volunteer Service Award and is an All-District golfer on the varsity golf team. She volunteers with National Charity League, Snack Pak 4 Kids, and the Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas. She is a member of First Presbyterian Church and attended Camp Waldemar for 8 years. She will attend The University of Texas at Austin in the fall.

SARA ELIZABETH CHRIST is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Michael Christ of Houston. Sara attends The Kinkaid School where she has been on the high honor roll and is a National Spanish Exam Gold Medalist. She is president of the Spirit of Kinkaid Club, vice-president of Texas Children’s Hospital Club and is a member of the Kinkaid events committee. She also serves on the Houston Rodeo Junior Committee. Sara participates in both varsity tennis and field hockey. She volunteers her time with the National Charity League, the LLS Foundation, the St. Bernard Project for Hurricane Harvey Recovery and Kid’s Meals Delivery team. EDITH ELLE COCKRELL is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Dashiell Cockrell II of Houston. Ellie attends The Kinkaid School where she has achieved high honor roll. She is a member of the Different Sides of Fashion Club and the Spirit of Kinkaid Club. She is a varsity soccer co-captain, plays volleyball and participates in art. She received her Girl Scout Gold Award where she painted hopscotch and four-square courts for the students of Yellowstone Academy. She enjoys volunteering at Belmont Village Senior Living, Yellowstone Academy and Brookwood Community. Ellie attended Camp Greystone in North Carolina for four years and is a member of The Story Church Houston. She will attend the University of Texas at Austin in the fall and major in art history with a minor in business.

GEORGIA LEIGH CURTIS is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Bright Petty of Dallas. Georgia attends Highland Park High School where she is a member of the Science National Honor Society, Computer Science Honor Society, and RHO Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society. She is the recipient of the AP Scholar Award and the Media Information Technology Award and is an athletic scholar for girls tennis. Georgia is a member of the Fuel the Force Club and the Caring Hearts card club. She volunteers at the Amon Carter Museum of History, and Prom Dreams and is a certified scuba diver. She is an active member of University Christian Church and attended Camp Lonehollow for 10 years.

Georgia plans to attend SMU in the fall.

MARY STUART GULLEY is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Shawn Patrick Gulley of San Antonio. Mary Stuart’s mother was a Duchess in the 1986 court. She attends Alamo Heights High School where she is on the varsity basketball team and a member of National Honor Society. She also received the UIL Academic All-District Award. Mary Stuart is a member of student council, Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica, and the Unified Club. She enjoys volunteering her time with the National Charity League, where she received the Sunshine Award. She also has worked with the San Antonio Food Bank, the Children’s Bereavement Center, and the Spay, Neuter, Inject Project of San Antonio. She is a member of First Presbyterian Church of San Antonio and attended Camp Lonehollow for 10 years. Mary Stuart plans to attend TCU in the fall.

ELIZABETH YVONNE LANDRITH is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Donovan Landrith of Houston. Elizabeth attends Memorial High School where she is a member of National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, and on the academic honor roll. Elizabeth is a member of the Equality for Everyone Club, the Girls Helping Girls Club, and is a Mustang Sweetheart. She plays tennis and field hockey and participants in track and field. Elizabeth is a member of Second Baptist Church and is an active participant in Young Life, serving as a freshman Young Life leader. She has attended Camp Longhorn for 10 years, where she plans to serve as a camp counselor this summer.

MADELINE MAE MOSEL is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Kreg Mosel of McGregor. Maddy attends Midway High School where she is a member of National Honor Society, the Spanish Club, and Health Occupations Students of America.

Maddy is a member of the swim and water polo teams and was named an Academic All-State swimmer. She also participates in Peer Assistance and Leadership Strategies and Spanish Club. She has been a Girl Scout. She is a member of First Baptist Church of Woodway where she is active in the youth group and a vacation Bible school volunteer. She has served on many mission trips. After traveling with family and attending Sondays Youth Camp this summer, Maddy will attend the University of Arkansas or Baylor University in the fall.

ALLISON SORELLE O’CONNOR is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sean Edward O’Connor of Calgary, Alberta, Canada and the granddaughter of Mrs. Suzanne Martin Starr and the late Dr. Kent Taylor Starr and Sandra Nemeck O’Connor, all of Waco.

SoRelle’s mother was a Princess in the 1994 court. SoRelle attends West Island College where she is on the honor roll and is a member of the cooking club, horticulture club, running club and Community in Action. She enjoys volunteering with Inn From the Cold and Glacier National Park Trail Building. She attended Pine Cove Christian Camp and is a member of First Alliance Church where she is a Sunday school teacher and an active member of the youth group. After traveling this summer, SoRelle will attend college in the fall.

HANNAH ELIZABETH PARKS is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Kyle Parks of Austin. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Flowers and and Mr. Louis Muldrow of Waco. Her mother was a Princess in 1989. Hannah attends Austin High School where she is a member of National Honor Society, Austin High Five Club, and is a Link Crew leader. She has received the Trustee Award. She is a member of the volleyball and golf teams.

Hannah is a member of National Charity League and volunteers for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Community First Village, and Helping Hand Home. She attended Camp Longhorn for 10 years and is a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. Hannah will attend The University of Texas at Austin in the fall.

KATHERINE MCCOY PORRELLO is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Christopher Porrello of Milford, Connecticut. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Nancy Parker Reid and the late Dr. John Miller Reid of Waco. Katie’s mother was a Princess in 1988. Katie attends the Frederick Gunn School in Washington, Connecticut where she is on the Dean’s List and was named to the 2021 All New England Preparatory School Athletic Council. Katie is a member of the French club and serves as a room advisor and a school tour guide. ELIZABETH RADCLIFFE RECKLING is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Sterling Reckling of Houston. Elizabeth attends The Kinkaid School where she is a varsity cheerleader and played on the badminton team. She is a member of the Youth and Medicine Club, the Happy and Healthy Club, and the Social Motion Club, in which she worked with people with special needs. She volunteers her time at the farmer’s market and Texas Ramps. She also is a member of Kinkaid Young Life and enjoys ceramics and gymnastics. Elizabeth is a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and attended Camp Longhorn for four years. Elizabeth enjoys traveling with her family and has visited such places as Africa, Europe, and Iceland, to name a few.

She will attend Texas A&M University in the fall.

CHARLOTTE ELIZABETH REEVES is the daughter of Dr. Mindy and Mr. Simon Reeves of Manchester, England, and the granddaughter of Dr. Patricia Mayer Milligan of Waco. Dr. Reeves was a Princess in 1999. Charlotte attends Canon Slade Secondary School in Bolton, England where she is an honor student and has received merit awards in French, art, and geography. She is a member of the art club, the French club, and the psychology club.

She is the founder of the Economics Society.

Charlotte is a member of Elmwood Church where she enjoys volunteering in the children’s church and is an active member of her youth group. After a gap year in New Zealand, Charlotte plans to attend the University of Edinburgh or University of the Arts in London to study marketing or fashion marketing.

MARY LACY RIEKE is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brian Marc Rieke of Houston and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Robert Howe of Waco. Her mother was a Queen in 1993. Mary Lacy attends Memorial High School where she is editor-in-chief of the yearbook and is on the varsity basketball, lacrosse, and volleyball teams. She is also a member of National Honor Society, the Mustang Military Support Club, and is a Young Life Memorial leader. Mary Lacy is a member of National Charity League, and enjoys volunteering her time with Kids’ Meals, Inc., and Blessings in a Backpack. She also serves as president of the Youth Action Council.

Karlie’s grandmother was the founding chair of Festival on the Brazos, and her grandfather was King in 1977. Her mother was Queen in 1980. Karlie attends Sattler Academy and is a member of the Pacific Northwest Bible Quizzing International team and a worship leader for the Living Hope Home School Co-op and the Lighthouse Christian Center. She also is on the cross country team. Karlie enjoys volunteering with Step-by-Step Family Support Ministry, Children of the Nations, and Crafting to Give. LAURA CATHERINE SAUNDERS is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Donovan Saunders of Houston. Laura attends The Kinkaid School where she is a member of the varsity swim team, an upper school peer mentor, a Kinkaid Admissions Ambassador, and a co-founder of the Four Core Club. Laura is a Presidential Volunteer Service Award winner, the class president of the National Charity League, and a recipient of both the Yellow Rose Award and Ticktocker 110% Award. Laura also volunteers with Easter Seals Youth Action Council, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Best Buddies and Homes of Hope in Costa Rica. She is a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church and has attended Pine Cove Family Christian Camp for 17 years. Following a summer of working as a counselor at Pine Cove, Laura will attend Texas A&M University in the fall.

CAROLINE SLONE TWADDELL is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Timothy Jon Twaddell of Tyler. Caroline attends All Saints Episcopal School where she is student body president. She is a National Merit Commended Scholar and the recipient of the Sophomore Servant Award and Sweet Briar Book Award. Caroline is a member of the varsity tennis and volleyball teams, as well as a member of the Green Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

She participates in the Junior Symphony League, is a volunteer for the SPCA, and a member of the Texas Bank and Trust Student Board. Caroline is a member of First Baptist Church of Tyler and attended Sky Ranch for 12 years. She will attend Baylor University in the fall as part of the Science Research Fellows program.

MARY MARGARET WASHBURNE is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Willets Washburne of Dallas. Her mother was a Duchess in 1990. Margo attends The Hockaday School where she received the Gold Presidential Service Award. She is copresident of the Young Republicans Club and secretary of the Investment Club. She is the photography representative on the Hockaday Fine Arts Board and participates in Hockaday Film Society, Christian Student Union and the design club. Margo has played varsity tennis for four years and is a member of the drill team. Her community involvement includes Habitat for Humanity, Young Life and Family Legacy.

She is a member of Gateway Church and attended Kanakuk Kamp for eight years.

After traveling to Europe this summer, she will attend SMU in the fall.

VIVIANA LANE ALEMÁN YERKES is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Peter Yerkes of Fairview. Viviana attends Lovejoy High School where she is a member of National Honor Society and captain of the varsity cheer team. She is vice-president of the Lovejoy Acts of Random Kindness Club and the art history club.

Viviana is a competitive hunter jumper rider, ranked in the top 10 in the nation for the Junior Hunter division. She enjoys volunteering her time as president of the National Charity League and at the Allen Outreach Center. Viviana attended Camp Mystic for nine years and is a member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church. After working as a camp counselor and traveling this summer, she will attend the University of Mississippi Honors College in the fall.

WILLIAM LEE AYNESWORTH is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Brian Aynesworth, III, and the grandson of Mr. Jerry Lewis and Mrs. Anne L. Aynesworth, of Waco. Will served as a Royal Attendant in 2013, and his father served as a Royal Escort in 1985. Will attends Bishop Reicher Catholic High School, where he is on the honor roll and student council. He plays varsity football, in which he was All-District the past three years. He also plays varsity baseball, varsity soccer and basketball. He attends St. Alban’s Episcopal Church and has volunteered for the Salvation Army.

He also is a member of the Young Men’s Service League and has attended Camp Ozark. He plans to major in finance and ranch management at Texas A&M University in the fall.

SAMUEL BRANCH BATTLE is the son of Drs. Soo Cho and Jacob Richard Battle of Waco. He attends Midway High School, where he is a member of the National Honor Society. He is a National Merit Commended Scholar and an AP Scholar with Honors. He also received the Spirit of Midway Award and the Panther Pride Award. Sam played varsity football, where he was quarterback, team captain, Overall Most Valuable Player and a 2-year letterman. Cole attends Midway High School, where he is a member of the National Honor Society and is team captain of the varsity swim team and of the varsity water polo team. He was drum major in the marching band and plays trombone. He received Panther Pride awards for band and chemistry. He is a member of Teen Leadership Waco, the Young Men’s Service League, the Waco Youth Council and Boy Scouts of America. He attends First Baptist Church of Woodway, where he is active in the youth group. He will attend Baylor University in the fall.

LINDEN CALLAN CROW is the son of Ms. Frances Callan and Mr. Linden Kyle Crow and the grandson of Mrs. Nancy Callan and the late Mr. W.W. Callan, Jr., and Doris Crow, all of Waco. ALEXANDER COLGIN DIETZ is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Henry Dietz, Jr. of Waco. Alex is an Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow member. He is a National Merit Commended Scholar, graduate of Texas Boys State and Teen Leadership Waco, and acolyte at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. A nine-year camper, Alex will return to Camp Longhorn as a counselor before studying business in college.

HUDSON EDWARD HAYNES is the son of Drs. Katherine Patrick and David Edward Haynes and the grandson of Mrs. Ann Patrick of Waco. He attends Midway High School, where he played on the varsity golf team and was a member of Peer Assistance Leadership Strategies (PALS).

Hudson was a Waco Symphony Brass and is a member of the Young Men’s Service League, where he served as class of 2022 sergeant of arms, vice president of communications, secretary and vice president. His volunteer work includes Caritas, Meals on Wheels and the Salvation Army. He is an active member of First United Methodist Church and has volunteered with vacation Bible school. He will attend the University of Mississippi in the fall.

RONALD EARL HENDERSON, IV, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Earl Henderson, III, and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Metz and the late Dr. and Mrs. R.E. Henderson, Jr., all of Waco. His mother was a Princess in 1987 and his father was a Royal Escort in 1986. Billy attends Waco High School, where he is a member of National Honor Society and an Academic Achiever. He plays on the tennis, golf and basketball teams. He is a member of Young Men’s Service League and was a Waco Symphony Brass. He has volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Billy is an active member of First Presbyterian Church. After trips to Mexico and North Carolina this summer, he will attend Texas A&M University in the fall.

HENRY BRADFORD HOLLAND is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Bradford Warren Holland and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Christopher George. Henry attends Midway High School where he is a varsity letterman in band. He currently serves as the trombone section leader and is an elected member of band council. Henry is also a four-time Spirit of Midway Award recipient and a former member of the Midway tennis team. He has dedicated many hours of service to others through the Young Men’s Service League, the City of Waco Youth Council, and the Waco Symphony Brass.

He is also a recent graduate of Teen Leadership Waco. Henry plans to attend Baylor University in the fall.

JACK PEARCE LEWIS is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles J. Lewis, Jr., and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jerry Lewis of Waco. He attends Midway High School, where he is a 4-year varsity tennis letterman, team captain and first-team All-District in singles and doubles. He also is a four-year Spirit of Midway Award recipient and a member of Business Professionals of America. He was a Waco Symphony Brass and a member of Young Men’s Service League, where he served as president. He serves on the Heart of Texas Fair & Rodeo Junior Committee. For many years, he has attended Kanakuk Kamp and was a junior counselor. Jack is an active member of First Baptist Church of Woodway. He will attend the University of Arkansas in the fall.

CONNOR LANCE RAINEY is the son of Mr. and Mrs. P. James Rainey and the grandson of Mrs. Patricia Ann Dillard, of Waco. He attends Midway High School, where he is an AP Scholar with Honors and a member of National Honor Society. Connor is a member of the Midway mock trial team, the investing club and the Theoretical Physics Club and received the Spirit of Midway Award. He is a graduate of Texas Boys State and Teen Leadership Waco. He served on the City of Woodway Youth Commission and has extensive community service with various organizations. He is a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. He will attend the U.S. Military Academy at Westpoint in the fall.

JAMES DAVID SMITH, JR., is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. David Smith of Waco. He attends Midway High School, where he is on the honor roll and is an Academic Letterman. He plays varsity football and was named to the second team Academic All-State Team by the Texas High School Football Coaches Association. J.D. also sang with the Midway Men’s Select Choir and was a member of Future Farmers of America. He was a Waco Symphony Brass and has volunteered with the Shepherd’s Heart Food Bank and the Hewitt Library.

J.D. has attended Pine Cove Camp and is a member of First Presbyterian Church. After taking a fishing trip to Canada during the summer he will attend Texas A&M University in the fall.

DANIEL WESLEY SWENKE is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Daniel Swenke and the grandson of Mrs. Sue Ann Swenke and the late Mr. Daniel Boyle Swenke, Jr., and Mrs. Billie Gwen Coulter, all of Waco. His father was a Royal Escort in 1983. Daniel attends Waco High School, where he is an Academic Achiever with Distinction and a member of the National Honor Society. He also plays on the varsity tennis and golf teams and participates in UIL policy debate.

Daniel is a Teen Leadership Waco graduate, served his community through Young Men’s Service League and as a Waco Symphony Brass. He is a youth elder at First Presbyterian Church. He will attend Texas A&M University or the University of Texas at Austin in the fall.

CADEN WILSON BROWN is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Doak Doubet Brown of Houston. Cade attends The Kinkaid School where he is a peer mentor, a Young Alumni leader, and an admissions ambassador. He is a member of the varsity football and swim teams, as well as a member of the economics club. He enjoys working in theater tech and is an advanced ceramicist.

Additionally, Cade enjoys volunteering his time with Brookwood Community Service, DePelchin Angels, Books Between Kids, and Kids’ Meals. He attended Camp Longhorn for 10 years and is a member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church where he serves as a master acolyte. After backpacking across Europe and Argentina and working as a counselor at Camp Longhorn this summer, Cade will attend TCU in the fall.

DANE LOCKWOOD BUNDY is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Benning W. Bundy of Hemphill and the grandson of Mrs. Sarah Brown Dossett Kendall of Waco. Dane’s father was a Royal Escort in 1980. He attends Hemphill High School where he is a member of National Honor Society. Dane is a member of the varsity football and varsity baseball teams, as well as One Act Play cast. He was first team Academic All-State and second team All-District in football and received the Regional One Act Play All-Star Cast Award. Dane attended Deerfoot Lodge camp and is a member of The Refuge Church of Milam. After working in the Adirondacks this summer, he will attend the University of Texas at Austin, Belmont University, or Wheaton College in the fall.

DAVIS WOOD CONLEE is the son of Mr. Grant M. Conlee and Mr. Chad E. Hovde of Bryan. Davis attends Brazos Christian School where he has played baseball and served as the basketball team manager. He also is an avid gym enthusiast and is currently studying the art of Jiu Jitsu. He has attended Kanakuk Kamp. As a sixth generation resident of Bryan, his appreciation for community has been seen through volunteer work with various organizations and charities throughout his life. Davis is planning to obtain his real estate license while completing his senior year. Davis has traveled extensively and studied business in Europe the summer between his junior and senior years. He plans to attend either St. Edwards University or Baylor University in the fall.

JONAH CARLTON DUNLAP is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Palmer Dunlap of San Antonio. He attends Central Catholic High School. He plays running back on the varsity football team, rushing more than 1,000 yards this season. He also runs the 100-meter and 200-meter dash and competes in the long jump for the varsity track team. He was first team All-District and second team All-State in football for the 2021 season. He also plays the upright bass in the high school orchestra. He attends Young Life and works in the family ACE Hardware store. Jonah also has been an avid snowboarder for eight years. He plans to major in business and play Division 1 football in college in the fall.

WYATT MCCRACKEN GAY is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Christopher David Gay of Austin. Wyatt’s mother was a Duchess in 1990. He attends the Liberal Arts and Sciences Academy where he is a member of National Honor Society and is on the honor roll for four years. Wyatt is also a member of the robotics club and the Ham Radio Club. Additionally, he is a member of the basketball team and participates in Young Life. Wyatt is a member of Boy Scouts of America and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 2021. He attended Camp Stewart for 6 years and is a member of Tarrytown United Methodist Church. After traveling to France with family, Wyatt will attend college in the fall.

ROBERT MONTGOMERY GULLEY is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Shawn Patrick Gulley of San Antonio. Robert attends Alamo Heights High School where he is a member of National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. Robert is involved in Boy Scouts of America and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 2021.

Robert is also a class officer, a member of the student council and the Be the Change Club. Robert enjoys volunteering his time with Young Men’s Service League, Snack Pak 4 Kids, and the San Antonio Food Bank. He is a member of the First Presbyterian Church of San Antonio. He attended Camp Lonehollow for 10 years where he plans to be a camp counselor this summer. In the fall, Robert plans to attend Baylor University.

AUSTIN LEO JACKSON is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Lyle Jackson of McGregor.

He attends Vanguard College Preparatory School where he is a member of National Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars. Leo played on the Vanguard varsity soccer and football teams.

He previously participated in drum line orchestra, theatre crew and the Vanguard Latin Club. He is also a member of the robotics club and the theatre crew. He also has served on student council and is senior class treasurer. He is a member of the Young Men’s Service League. He was a Waco Symphony Brass and takes part in Vanguard campus clean-ups. Leo has been accepted to attend Abilene Christian University where he will study business.

SCOTT DONNELLY MARTIN, JR., is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Donnelly Martin of Houston. He attends St. John’s School, where he played baseball, basketball and tennis. Scott is a member of the microfinance club and the spikeball club.

Scott is co-founder of SpringSpirit Slugging Statistics Camp, a math and leadership camp for 140 disadvantaged children that uses baseball statistics and heroes of Major League Baseball to teach math skills. He twice received the President’s Volunteer Service Award. His civic service includes volunteering with the Harris County Juvenile Center and the Lone Star Bleeding Disorders Foundation.

Scott has attended Camp Longhorn and Camp Ailihpomeh. He is a member of First Presbyterian Church of Houston. He plans to attend TCU in the fall.

ALEXANDER MORRIS MILLER is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Hamilton Miller of Dallas and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. James Hamilton Miller of Waco. Alex’s father was a Royal Escort in 1991. Alex attends Bishop Lynch High School where he is captain of the wrestling team and president of the car and aviation Club. He is captain of the Ricci House mentor group and treasurer of Let Haiti Read. He is a member of the Young People of America Club and the Best Buddies program. Alex volunteers his time at the North Texas Food Bank, The Stewpot, and PB&J with Love. He attended Camp Ozark and is a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. Alex will attend the University of Mississippi as a member of the Provost Scholars Program.

SAMUEL GREENWOOD PITTS, JR. is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Greenwood Pitts of Houston. Sam attends The Kinkaid School where he is the editor of his school newspaper and a member of the varsity football team. He is the treasurer of the economics club and a member of the grade level class dance committee and grade level class events committee. Sam enjoys volunteering at SpringSpirit as a SpringSpirit All Star, and at the Houston Food Bank. Sam is a member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church. He has attended Camp Longhorn for 10 years and intends to work as a counselor this summer.

After traveling through Europe and Argentina, Sam plans to attend the University of Texas, TCU, or the University of Georgia in the fall.

COLTON MAVERICK RUBSAMEN is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rollins Schultz Rubsamen, Jr. of San Antonio. Colton attends San Antonio Christian High School where he is a member of National Honor Society and the National Junior Classical League Latin Honor Society. He is the recipient of the Presidential Volunteer Service Award and the Distinguished Christian High School Student Leadership Award.

Additionally, Colton founded the Spikeball Club and is interested in playing soccer and guitar. Colton volunteers his time with Habitat for Humanity, the San Antonio Animal Defense League, and Kingdom Resources. He attended Laity Lodge Youth Camp for one year and is an active member of Community Bible Church where he volunteers at vacation Bible school. Colton looks forward to attending Baylor University or Pepperdine University in the fall.

JOSEPH CLARK THOMPSON, IV is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Clark Thompson, III of Dallas. Jodie attends St. Mark’s School of Texas where he is on the varsity golf and varsity volleyball teams. He is also a member of the St. Mark’s Crypto Club, the Telos Character Building Program, and a sherpa guide for the St. Mark’s Wilderness Program. Additionally, Jodie has been accepted to the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest Fine Arts Festival and the Austin Student Film Festival. He is a member of the Young Men’s Service League and Young Life. Jodie attended Camp Longhorn for seven years and is a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. After a summer of traveling, he will attend SMU in the fall.
