We love Vanguard, and have come to regard it even more highly now that our oldest daughter has graduated from college. The foundation laid through her classes at Vanguard prepared her for what she encountered academically at SMU. She thrived in even her most challenging classes and maintained a social life in club sports and various philanthropic and social organizations outside of studying. With our rising Vanguard Senior, we value the emphasis Vanguard placed on learning during COVID. The decisions made by Bill and his team not only kept students in class, rather than online, it also enabled them to continue learning at the same pace as any other year prior to COVID.
A message from Board President Shanna Mattson
We wholeheartedly believe the faculty and staff at Vanguard are second to none. They challenge, nurture, and ensure students are ready for college and for life. We owe much to Vanguard, and we are excited about its future, as we have another daughter who will be making her way to Vanguard in a couple years. We have been, and will be, supporters of all things Vanguard! Our hope is to see the school continue to be a leader in education through academics, athletics, fine arts, technology, and beyond.

Let me thank you for your continued commitment and support for all Vanguard is doing in the Waco community. Our graduation classes exceed all state and national levels on standardized tests, college admissions, and college scholarships. We are blessed with a faculty that is dedicated, committed, and year in and year out continues to mold and shape our young adults so that they are well prepared not only for their college experiences, but also for life beyond. If I or any of our administration and staff can be of assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us directly. Myself, the faculty, and the staff have heartfelt thanks to each for your belief and commitment to this remarkable school.
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…” This quote from the Charles Dickens book A Tale of Two Cities best describes what we as a school and myself personally, serving as its Head of School, dealt with over the last two and a half years. I am pleased to report that coming out of the past years, we are seeing the best of times. Our enrollment for the fall of 2022 will be exceeding 265 students and will be the largest in the school’s 50 year history. We are fiscally sound and have embarked on the most ambitious Capitol Campaign in the school’s history.
Message from Head of School
