By Pa mela Echemunor & Fatima Garba Pics - Oscar Ochiogu The maiden edition of the ECOWAS Fashion Week, took place last weekend at the Oriental Hotel Lekki, Lagos. The 3-day day event was packaged to cash in on the growing African fashion market, especially within West Africa. The event was put together by Isis Model management and supported by Studio 24, Allure, Vogue, Vogue Woman and Fashion TV amongst others.

It was an event that gave young designers a platform to shine. Below are a list of the designers that graced the runway and the trends they brought on.

TRISH O

This designer has an eye for what the future holds for fashion. Her designs were chic and playful and heavily embellished employing lace and brocade and sheer fabrics in her work. Her collection showcased the bubble trend, SHSOXP DQG UXIĂ HV ZKLOH KHU bridal dresses had fabulous trains.

WEEK ZIZI CARDOW Zizi Cardow is a household name who never disappoints. EVE 2000 Eve 2000 gave the more mature class of women something to look up to. Her designs were breezy and comfortable. She showcased a lot of boubous with embroidery and beading. The materials were glittery and rich. She also brought back the metallic and polka dot trend and infused silver in her collection.

This upcoming male designer showcased his male collection which was very dapper and sleek.It included blazers,jackets,pants and casual suits.The colours were red black and white and had a plaid and monochronic trend to the look.

JPK JPK showcased the bootylicious nature of the full-bodied African woman by highlighting her H[TXLVLWH FXUYHV with corsets and bright colours.

FASHION 4 EVA The collection was very colourful with a lot of prints and animal prints on chiffon material.Full Kaftan and midi kaftans were the trend for this collection with a bit of stones on the designs.

HOUSE OF NWOCHA The vibrant designer collection inFOXGHG ÁRUDO PDURRQ SDWWHUQV DQG the use of elastic bandage fabric with sequins to create mini dresses.The collection had an uber chic attitude to it and it also included ivory colured long dresses for an evening formal look.

7KLV GHVLJQHU·V collection was biker-inspired with a lot of leather jackets and pants as well as shredded jeans. She infused a bit of femininity by adding a dash of satin and ankara to the collection.

The classic jump-suit and Grecian trend were also put on the runway.

How do you usually start your day?

My day starts with a prayer.

Do you have a daily routine?

Not really, aside from praying, working and being with my family, everything else is spontaneous. It really depends on my schedule.

How do you balance work with personal life?

Native Filmworks Limited, one of Nigeria’s pioneer Film and TV Company and Producers of narrative feature, “A Place in the Stars”, recently hosted an Industry Announcement to unveil its first feature film.

Directed and produced by respected film maker, Steve Gukas, “A Place in the Stars” is a riveting account of drug trafficking; it focuses on how fake and adulterated medical drugs are being traded for billions of dollars and dangerous men willing to kill to protect this money.

The new film also features some of the best actors in Nigeria, like, Segun Arinze, Gideon Eche-Okeke, Dejumo Lewis, Yemi Blaq, Femi Branch, Matilda Obaseki, Julian Mcdowell, Armajit Deu and Amaka Mgbor.
