2/6/14 JAY's VINTAGE VEHICLES NEAR STUDIO ENTRANCE, LAST JAY

LENO TONIGHT SHOW,and it is RAINING ! I can see some of Jay's classic cars parked by the party tent...This is the first significant rain we've had around southern Cal in a long time.Its raining on Jay's parade!

Tonight is the final Jay Leno Tonight Show & the final show in Burbank. It moves to New York after today, to be hosted

by Jimmy Fallon...& I'm outside the main entrance to the studio.

There's about 20 others hanging around just trying to get a feel for the end of an era...lots of memories. One fellow flew in

from Toronto without tickets to the show,,he just wanted to be near the studio as it came to an end..he did the same when the Conan show reverted back to Leno. He's a die-hard. Another guy flew in from Detroit,also without a ticket to the show.

Peoples' emotions & memories,near & far, intersect with this show & with Leno. The Tonight Show became personally signifcant in my life in the late 70's & 80's when Johnny Carson was still alive & well...and I would take friends to the show when they visited from

Michigan (where my family moved from when I was in high school).And we came to the show as a family at least once,maybe twice. And in the past ten years I've regularly come to the show maybe once a month or so ...and faces became familiar after a while. Its a "family" of sorts here at the Tonight Show..Some have been around here a LONG time. And now Its 4:45pm(pst) here. Final show is almost over ! party will probably start shortly after. We know the final guests are Billy Crystal & Garth Brooks, but

what other "surprises" will there be? Last night (I was at the show) the surprise appearances

by Arsenio Hall, Carrot Top, & a few others, as well as Mickey Rooney in the audience.

this is where you get "counter tickets" the day of the show...for MOST of the years here it was at 8:00 am sharp, but the last six months it was at 10:00 am, although on "big days" (ie when a president et al) they would informally come out earlier and hand out tickets. This is ONE of the things I really admired about the Tonight Show in Burbank.By and large (albeit not always)they had "real people" working behind the counter, etc, not just "rent-a-cops" doing their job perfunctorily. This ticket entrance stayed the same through ALL the Johnny Carson years and Jay Leno years.

This SECURITY GAL WORKED for the SHOW for a WHILE...GENERALLY NICE MOST of the TIME

The TWO WISCONSIN LADIES FLEW IN for the PENULTIMATE SHOW...they also WENT to PRICE is RIGHT the PREVIOUS DAY, and one of them was CHOSEN to be a CONTESTANT

FINALLY, WE MOVE from the "HOLDING AREA" to the "INNER CIRCLE"

This is the FINAL WAITING AREA, albeit the TENTS WERE PUT UP ONLY for the PARTY AFTER the LAST SHOW

The GUY in the HAT is an EMPLOYEE for SEATING the AUDIENCE...they tell me that if you make it to the "top" of the staff list, you are no longer required to wear the gray slacks & blue blazer

the guy in the BROWN JACKET flew in from Detroit, Michigan for the final show

this was the FINAL TICKET LINE for the JAY LENO SHOW, albeit there were NO TICKETS this time...only employees & their friends & families were able to attend the show

LADY in RED...she was nice enough...and she stayed around ALL DAY to soak up the atmosphere for the final show..she was local to the area..and like a LOT of us became sentimental about not only Jay Leno leaving but the Tonight Show as well. It has been a big PART of many (not all) of us who live in southern California, including myself.

the guy on the right hand of the above photo FLEW IN FROM TORONTO, CANADA...hoping to get in to the last show...but was just glad to be able to hang around the studio on the final day instead. He also flew in at the time of the final Conan O'Brien show (when it reverted back to Jay Leno). Decent guy, wish him well and good luck.

above: the guy in the upper right-hand corner of the photo said he started waiting at midnight, but was told by a security guard to come back at 7:00 am. Despite

being the first person in line, there were absolutely no tickets available for the general audience.

finally, this nice lady came out at 8:00 am and CONFIRMED what the sign on the door said: that there were "NO TICKETS AVAILABLE" for general audience for the final show.

nearby ST. FINBAR CHURCH...where I periodically go to praise God: FatherSon-&-Holy Spirit...speaking of which, I wonder if Jay has any religious convictions at all? Is he privately a believer in Jesus Christ?

I was at the 2nd-to-Last show, which was the Final General Audience show...what a thrill !

this is the MAIN ENTRANCE...for those who have never been to the show..the entrance to the Tonight Show studio is on the left under the sign that NBC posted for the final show that says "Your show made us laugh. Your legacy makes us pround..." (and also thanks Debbie Vickers, the producer)

NEARBY ST. BORROMEO CHURCH, NORTH HOLLYWOOD...I also

periodically go here to formally praise our Lord...they have daily noon mass, as well as 7:30 am...; which reminds me to ask for any of you prayerful people to keep Jay Leno & ALL the Tonight Show staff & employees, et al in our prayers...some are being laid off...and they're losing a "family" of sorts...they've been together for so long.

And also thanks to Jay Leno for, by-&large, keeping the Tonight Show a decent show.

on the final day, it POURED ...RAINED most of the afternoon...ironically it also

RAINED for three straight days on the final days of the Conan O'Brien show (much more than today at the Leno show), which as best as I can recall is the last time it rained so much around here. Is it just coincidence? Whatever the case may be WE DESPERATELY NEED rain in southern California

one of the reporters from Channel 4 or 5 came out and spoke with some of us standing in the rain...the guy from toronto in the yellow raincoat seemed to enjoy getting attention...he was a very INTENSE person... definitely felt a personal connection to the

show even though he was from Toronto (well, he later said he was an "American citizen" ...but didn't explain further).

i've seen this guy around the show for many years...

i noticed this guy named "Cash" leaving the final show...with his female companion ...he works in "the industry"

GARTH BROOKS after the show got out of his car and said hello, signed autographs, and took pics with people...and put this thing on his head at the request of a young girl for a photo.

1/3/14 OUTSIDE the JAY LENO TONIGHT SHOW; TODAY'S GUESTS JENNIFER LOPEZ & AARON (not shown) 1/13/14 OUTSIDE the TONIGHT SHOW...nice Lady next to me..the show began with an episode of "Headlines" almost always funny; then Jennifer

Lopez was the first guest, ..she talked about trying to make a puerto rico dish for Christmas at her Long Island home..and they showed an old clip of Jlo's first appearance on the Tonight Show 16 years ago...wow..! I saw her hollywood star ceremony as well a few months ago. And then Aaron Eckhart came on...he first mentioned skiing at Mammoth ..and a lot about his mom,..and a house in Montana..and showed a clip from a new-age Frankenstein movie he just finisshed...then a comedian..didn't catch his name..some funny lines..and finally which will apparently NOT be shown tonight...Dorrian Holley did a tribute to Michael Jackson..a solo version of "Billy Jean" with one guitar accompaing him.Dorian was the "vocal coach" for Michael Jackson, and he is currently a vocalist for the Tonight Show band. So I got a desk ticket this morning at

10am,and returned around 1pm,,and we waited until 3:30 to enter the studio. Nice lady next to me didn't have a ticket and lucky for her I happened to have an extra. She was from west virginia and just moved here..very inspirational to feel her enthusiasm in being here..she really loves southern Cal..and the crowd control person picked her out and gave her a free tonight show stuffed bear.

Good show,..the countdoww to Jay's last show continues. He even mentioned Jimmy Fallon in his opening monologue...its in the back of everybody's mind..wonder what they have planned for the final show?

Wonder if I can get a ticket?

1/13/14 LEAVING the 2nd-toLast JAY LENO TONIGHT SHOW WRITTEN RECAP of the

PENULTIMATE JAY LENO

TONIGHT SHOW, So this IS actually the final "general-audience" Leno tonight show ...gal said tomorrow only friends & family of staff members & emplloyees of the show will be in the audience.& there's a giant tent set up next to the entrance,maybe for an "ater-party"?its 12:16 ...we r still in the "outer circle" waiting area,..at 130 we enter the "inner circle" waiting area,,the long benches next to the entrance..the latino gal wearing securty costume (she's been doing this for a while) warned that we are still "not guaranteed a seat"...it all depends on how many special guests tohere are on the list.

Two ladies from wisconsin are behind me in line..they arrived on Monday ..went to Price is Right yesterday..got in line at midnight for the price..and one of them won an i-pod..she was excited she got to kiss Drew...apparently it was the 8000th show..so Bob Barker sent a taped video-message(she said she will be on TV on April 7 ).Tonights guests are Sandra Bullock,Blake Shelton, & one other musical group.There's about 20 people in frnt of me. They apparently did give out a few counter tickets this morning,surprise surprise. I got an email ticket a few weeks ago. , Its now 215p & were seated in the "inner circle"..the 2

wisconsin ladies have been sociable ..chatting with me while we waited in the outer circle..they r planning to visit holland's (mi) tulip festival this year..I told them that's where I grew up (grand rapids & holland)..one of them goes to nashville on a regular basis..she likes country music...they also plan a trip to florida..she mentioned the "peshtego fire" said it was bigger than the chicago fire.., I mentioned randolph wisconsin where I have relatives. (they didn't know of it,...its a tiny dutch farm town)...we talked about the dells & cave of the mounds..and house on the rock..all places I visited....finally got into the show... (unfortunately seated next to me on the right is a very odd fellow taking tiny notes with a golf pencil on a small slip of paper but apart from that ok); to my left is a sony digi-super27 camera..

They showed music videos while we waited,including "garbage","allen stone",bonnie rait,"vintage trouble" (who also played live),"cheap trick",avril lavigne,& just as roy clark jr began playing,Jay came out in his blue work shirt & jeans as he always does a few moments before the show actually begins and does a little meet&-greet with the audience & says something like "This is live on tape..we don't stop,don't go back..everything is live at which point he mimics lip-synching & whispers "Britney spears" & says "most important remember to laugh at the monologue..." answers a few questions...usually people ask "Can I get a pic with u?" at which point his staff member pulls out a polaroid camera & does a pic with 2 or 3 people,..&

this time he chose a lady from stockton & her husband a truck driver,..& a few others..then he says he has to go put on his "dorky suit" & tells us to "order whatever we like..everything is on the show" & he disappears. He did NOT break this routine on the 2nd-to-last show.

Then the usual african-american "warmup-crowdcontrol” dude comes on the stage & makes a few jokes & asks us to practice applause & laugh & has us recite a few lines (ie black man: I’m not fast I’m kinda slow, I’m not rich I’m kinda po…” ; ...& does a "mime" routine to entertain us ..and then the Tonight Show Band emerged & began playing,when suddenly the warmup man said "Get ready..." The TV Monitor said this was Show #4609, and the next thing we knew, the show was starting, & Jay came out & shook hands..& got a LONG STANDING OVATION…even after the crowd control dude tried to tell us to stop clapping & sit down the applause continued for another minute or so. And jay said “Where were you when I was doing contract negotiations?”

Then he started his monologue....after which they showed an all-or- partial parody(?) film clip of Jay's musical participation with guests over the years (did he every actually sing with some of the guests?)

During the next commercial break the Tonight Show Band drummer did an awesome drum solo (“waiting for the break of day”) and jay was out in the crowd but from where we were we couldn’t see what he was doing or to whom he was talking, when suddenly he

said, “Ladies and gentlemen…somebody very old is here…it’s MICKEY ROONEY!” (The legendary actor, 93,was sitting in the audience with his family !) That was quite a surprise (and I saw him, and got a brief video clip of him leaving after the show! See http://www.youtube.com/watch? feature=player_embedded&v=HxowVZ-YdCc Next, Leno did a “Cleaning out the office” segment… showing odd or interesting things he found in his office as he was cleaning it out…and out of one box a live lady emerged & did a brief dance; then he pulled something out & suddenly the comic “Carrot Top” came on stage and did a few of his gags;and Kevin smith came on and said “That’s my bong”, and then Leno did a few more jokes and suddenly Arsenio Hall came on stage !

That was truly unexpected…in fact I thought that Arsenio had taken some shots at Jay “back in the day” …maybe they kissed and made up somewhere along the way, apparently so.

Then in came Sandra Bullock, and the interview began with Jay asking her about one of the “Speed” movies…and he said something about a “crazy b----“ that seemed to be Jay taunting Sandra…& Sandra said, “Did you just call me a crazy b---h? “You’re such an a--…” in a jousting manner…and everybody laughed and the interview continued with Jay peppering her with questions about movie-making and her most recent “Gravity” (they showed a clip of “the

making of” because Sandra wants people to know “how hard she worked”) as well as a prepared clip of Sandra and her many various hair-dos over the years (on the Leno show).

As the interview with Bullock was ending, she got teary-eyed and said, “You’ve been SO KIND to me over the years…” even when I did a bad movie you were nice, …a sentimental moment…that lasted a few seconds with Jay sort of shrugging it off..

Up next came Blake Shelton. He didn’t sing, but just sat and chatted with Jay…Jay asked about Blake’s wife and asked if a lot of guys “hit on her”…and Blake said, “I guess you just did on national tv”..and Jay says “Well, she’s not here…so that doesn’t count” Blake said “Actually, I’m a wus, but I’m tall…” so apparently he is intimidating enough to keep guys at bay.

Jay read some tweets that Blake wrote over the years, and they played a game with Sandra guessing if he was drunk or sober when he tweeted. Shelton thanked jay for not making the show his personal political agenda, but equally roasting everybody ..and there was a lot more in their interchange, but you will have to watch the show to see it all. ..

The last act of the night was the music group “Vintage Trouble”. I must confess I’m not very familiar with their music but the lead singer definitely looked and moved a lot like Chuck Berry . And that was it ! It ended without much fanfare. Jay yelled, “I want a picture with Mickey Rooney”.

Meanwhile, security kept yelling at audience members to “Put your phones/cameras away…no pictures in the studio!” I said, “They take their job seriously, don’t they..even up to the 2nd-to-last show…” ha ha. Looks like the REAL FANFARE will be tomorrow night. There was a HUGE TENT set up next to the studio for what is apparently going to be a big after-show party. And I heard talk that tomorrow there will be NO general audience, only invited guests, and friends & family members of employees, et al. Thanks for the laughs, Jay ! Thanks for the memories !

The CHAIR LADY is BACK ! SHE doesn't seem to be homeless or destitute ...but simply likes to sit and read a book right here, same place, same time... God bless her !

back in the "holding area"

this lady (lady #1) was in front of me in line and was with her son, but her son apparently SPRAINED HIS ANKLE as he was walking towards the tonight show with his mom...so she left him behind for the moment thinking she would get in line and he would catch up, but he didn't show up, so she went to find him, and I saw the two of them a while later and he was SERIOUSLY LIMPING almost unable to put any pressure on one foot...so she came back to us just as we were about to enter the line because she was going to let another lady (lady #2, not shown) in front of me get in on their ticket...they had an email ticket with capacity for three I guess, and lady #2 just

showed up without a ticket hoping somebody might have an extra. Lady #1 still thought she was going to try to get in with her son despite the severely sprained ankle, but they were going to the back of the line...LO and BEHOLD to make a long story a bit shorter, I had an extra ticket and gave it to lady #2 so she didn't have to go to the back with lady #1 and her son who probably wouldn't get in if they were in the very back...so sad for them. That's a bit of misfortune.

Hopefully, the Tonight Show staff gave them tickets for the next day or something to make them feel better, and hopefully they're not from far away with all their hopes up to see the show.

this is where you SIT & WAIT, on LONG BENCHES...it's not much to complain about..time usually goes fairly quick, but you would think they might put some screens with something entertaining for people...but then maybe they want

people to become kind of bored and worn out so that the show seems ALL the MORE FUNNY and ENTERTAINING...what do you think, is it purposeful ?

I CALL her the "CHAIR LADY"...she sits outside the studio on a regular basis and reads a book...not sure if she even is interested in the show or whether she attends it, but lately she seems to have made this her home of sorts from mid-morning throughout the afternoon. She doesn't seem open to conversation, so I can only speculate.

this is the "HOLDING AREA" ...where the line begins to congregate...some people come as early as 11am (maybe earlier) for the 4pm show. I usually wait until 1pm or so for the long wait.

this is Jay's "CAR of the DAY" (the red one), ...he purportedly drives a different car every day, and this is his regular parking spot.

yes, you have to go thru a metal detector, and if it goes off they use the baton

there's also a cardboard cut-out of Jay Leno right outside the entrance to the studio where fans are allowed to take pictures.

this is one of the NICER SECURITY GUARDS who doesn't seem intimidating...you kind of like being obedient when he gives "orders" ...because it's so non-threatening.

maybe a LADY GAGA FAN ?!

the guy in the broad-brimmed hat by the banister also works at the show and for the last few years seems to always be working as some sort of "superior" of sorts...the highest-ranking crowdcontrol staff apparently gets the privilege of wearing whatever they want

rather than the blue-jacket, tie, & grey slacks of most of the crowd staff.

this lady (blue jacket) can be REALLY STRICT sometimes...she is almost ALWAYS working at the show...sometimes she can be a little nice, but also she has a tough nononsense stare..especially during commercial breaks when all the various staff stand by the stage and face the audience simply staring at us. It's one of

the disconcerting aspects of going to the show.

WELCOME !

FIRST of ALL, the disclaimers: This is NOT an official tonight show website nor an official jay leno website, nor an affiliate nor sponsor etc. I am JUST a FAN and a semi-regular attendee of the Tonight Show in Burbank, California , and I wanted to do SOME SORT of tribute to the show as Jay Leno's last appearance is coming very soon (February 6, 2014). I am sure there will be a BIG CIRCUS of media for the last show,

and I doubt that I will be able to get into the last show as I am NOT a VIP, but if not I will be outside the studio with many others I assume. Maybe he will even come outside and wave or something.Also, since photos are "strictly forbidden" inside the studio, and I don't even dare try to sneak a picture, I can only provide pics from outside the studio waiting in line, etc. I also try to give a brief descriptive overview of a show if I attended it, with a brief video clip of me leaving, at times.

I've seen a LOT of different shows, in person, at the Burbank studio, and don't watch it on television (albeit ocassionally I look back at

various episodes online). I also am old enough to remember going to the Johnny Carson Tonight Show (same location, albeit at the older setting, which Jay Leno shared for a while I do believe, although recently some fellow tried to tell me that Leno's first studio was not the same one as the one Johnny Carson used, but as far as I can tell it was in the exact same location).

Anyways, I really enjoyed going to the Johnny Carson show and also the Jay Leno show over the years.

There were times when I thought the "security" at the Leno show was excessively grim during commercial breaks...with the blank-faced stares out at the

audience, but they actually loosened up a bit at least in the last year or so, and especially with the final show looming, maybe some of them realized their "job security" is ending and that they are "just one of us" as well. But I want to focus on Jay Leno and the laughs he gave us and the good memories. I am sure we will see MORE of Leno in various other capacities as a comedian. I've heard other networks are talking to him, but don't know what will come of it, if anything. I'm not sure if this change is all NBC or if maybe Leno himself indicated he was getting tired of doing the show. There were times when it seemed like he was

a bit weary of "holding the fort" as they say. Sure, he has a TON of support staff, but ultimately it's ALL about him. All the criticism and/or praise goes to Leno, regardless of who actually thought up the joke, wrote the script, etc.

THANKS for the MEMORIES !
