V
ancouver has long been a formidable burger city, and it’s now operating at a new level. Across the city, kitchens are focusing on what matters: properly seasoned beef,
the right bun, the perfect sauce, and technique that holds up until the last bite. From smash burgers to dry-aged classics, these are the Vancouver burgers worth chasing. ❱❱

6 ULTIMATE TOURISM GUIDE Fall 2026
The Victor
39 Smithe St, Vancouver At Parq Vancouver, The Victor’s King River Wagyu Burger leans fully into steakhouse indulgence: an eight-ounce Wagyu patty with caramelized onions, aged cheddar and black truffle aioli, served with triple-cooked fries. Their 5 to 7 p.m. after-office happy hour ($39) makes it even harder to ignore, pairing the burger with baked apple pie and a Goose Tiny Tini martini for a full downtown power move.
Social Corner
891 Homer St, Vancouver With locations in Yaletown and Coal Harbour, Social Corner’s limited-quantity burger features an eightounce, in-house, handground organic Alberta beef patty, fontina, truffle aioli, and Syrah-caramelized onions on brioche. Rich and polished, it delivers exactly what it promises.
Monarch Burger 3034 Main St, Vancouver
From chef Robert Belcham, Monarch Burger leans into a self-described “high-end sleazy” approach, built on premium hand-pressed patties made from locally sourced beef and cooked in beef tallow for maximum flavour. Focused on classic cheeseburgers and sharper spicy builds, it balances quality ingredients with unapologetic burger-shop energy. One of Vancouver’s strongest burgers.
Pourhouse
162 Water St, Vancouver Pourhouse remains one of Vancouver’s burger standards. Dry-aged beef, confit pork belly, aged cheddar, caramelized onions, and grainy mustard mayo make this a structured, deeply satisfying classic. Their crispy portobello with harissa BBQ sauce also holds its own for a vegetarian move.
The Red Accordion
1616 Alberni St, Vancouver Located in a heritage house on Alberni, The Red Accordion builds its burger on a six-ounce, AAA Alberta beef patty with applewoodsmoked cheddar, doublesmoked bacon, house-made pickles, crispy shallots and aioli on brioche. Big, layered and satisfying.
Juicy Joe’s
2004 W 4th Ave, Vancouver Juicy Joe’s focuses on six-ounce, grass-fed halal Canadian beef smash burgers done properly. The Original keeps things simple, while options like the Truffle Mushroom Swiss expand without overcomplicating.
Burger Crush
755 Nelson St, Vancouver Burger Crush delivers a California-style smash burger with Canadian Angus beef, soft buns and signature crush sauce. The single or double cheeseburger is the draw, with strong vegan options alongside.
seed aioli. Refined without overdoing it, this North Vancouver burger is worth the SeaBus ride over.
Between 2 Buns
105 E Pender St; 4245 Fraser St, Vancouver Between 2 Buns helped define Vancouver’s smash burger movement. With Chinatown and Fraser locations, it remains one of the city’s most recognizable smash burgers thanks to crisp-edged patties, soft buns and straightforward execution.
Black Kettle Brewing
Jackson’s Resto Butcher
2214 W 4th Ave, Vancouver Jackson’s is a full-service butcher shop with a restaurant. They smartly keep the focus on the meat. Built on a brisket and chuck patty with house bacon, onion jam and Creole mustard, it’s balanced and beef-forward.
The Gull
175 E 1st St, North Vancouver The Gull Burger pairs organic house-ground beef with caramelized onions, brie, pickles and pickled mustard
720 Copping St, North Vancouver Black Kettle Brewing brings a brewery-friendly wildcard to the list. Their Bourdain Burger, stacked with a chuck patty, mortadella, provolone and dijonnaise on a potato bun, leans playful without losing the plot. Pair it with a craft beer and it makes a strong case for North Van burger credibility.
White Spot
Multiple Metro Vancouver locations No Vancouver burger conversation is complete without White Spot. The Legendary Burger may not be chasing smash trends or Wagyu excess, but it remains part of the city’s burger DNA. Triple O sauce, pickle and nostalgia still count for something.

rom freezer doors and phone booths to a fake accounting office, these legal modern bars turn arrival into part of the night out. I love a bar that makes me work a little to get inside. Not velvetrope nonsense, but that moment when I wonder if I have the right door. In Vancouver, it might mean ordering from a Chinatown
dumpling counter, stepping into a red phone booth or looking for the light above an almost invisible basement entrance. The originals were illegal drinking rooms. Today’s versions are licensed, online and marketed as speakeasies. They even have their own Instagram accounts. Here are a few I’ve managed to find. ❱❱
WORDS: CASSANDRA ANDERTON // IMAGES: SUBMITTED
Fall 2026 ULTIMATE TOURISM GUIDE 13
1 Laowai: order “Number 7”
Laowai begins inside BLND TGER, a dumpling shop on East Georgia Street. Ask for “Number 7” and the freezer door opens to a glamorous room inspired by Shanghai in the 1920s and early 1930s. The cocktails include an introduction to the Baijiu, a Chinese distilled spirit typically made from sorghum and other grains. For another layer, private room No. 8 seats up to 15. The room rewards lingering. There’s plenty to notice once the freezer-door reveal is over.
2 Bagheera: place your bet
A few blocks away, Bagheera hides behind the fictional Happy Valley Turf Club at 518 Main St. Place a wager on King Louie and the betting-shop entrance gives way to a room inspired by Victorian India and vintage rail travel. Bagheera asks you to play along, and that brief performance is part of the fun. It’s polished, dramatic and particularly fun with someone who has no idea what’s coming.

14 14 ULTIMATE ULTIMATETOURISM TOURISMGUIDE GUIDE Fall 2026
Call Me Back: step into the phone booth
Inside the Lions Pub on West Cordova Street, a red telephone booth leads to Call Me Back. The 22-seat cocktail bar occupies a former florist shop inside Terminal City Club. It’s small, intimate and best suited to conversation rather than a large group. Book ahead when possible. I like this one for a quieter downtown drink.
4 Key Party: accounting on the outside
The Valentin Manheimer Accounting storefront on Main Street looks intentionally unassuming. Behind it, Key Party shifts into a warm 1960s-and-1970s lounge serving retro cocktails and Jell-O shots. The contrast is the joke, and it still makes me smile every single time. Key Party is walk-in only, so have a little flexibility.
5 The Narrow: follow the red light
The Narrow Lounge is one of Vancouver’s original hiddenbar experiences. Its Main Street entrance is famously easy to miss. The red light is your clue that the basement bar is open. Inside, it feels less like a themed set and more like a well-loved neighbourhood bar that happens to be concealed. It’s dim, lively and walk-in only.
6 Arcana: ask the pet psychic
Arcana announces itself as a pet-psychic business on Abbott Street. Behind the storefront is an occult-themed lounge filled with tarot imagery, Ouija boards and a Zoltar machine. It’s playful and over the top, with the entrance establishing the strange little world inside. Arcana accepts reservations and walk-ins.
7 Ama: look for the orange door
Ama offers a quieter version of the hidden-room idea. Find the orange door at 3980 Fraser St. and head upstairs above Nammos Estiatorio. Japanese-inspired cocktails and a raw-bar menu are served in a refined room removed from the street below. There’s no password or fake business. The architecture does the hiding.
HONOURABLE MENTIONS D/6 Hidden Lounge
At D/6, a bookcase opens onto the Hidden Lounge on the sixth floor at 39 Smithe St. It’s a private room rather than a separate bar, but the classic secretbookcase reveal is hard to resist.
Hello Goodbye
An unmarked door at 1120 Hamilton St. leads downstairs to Hello Goodbye, a subterranean DJ and bottle-service lounge. It makes the list for its arrival, even if the room is more late-night club than cocktail bar.
Shameful Tiki Room
Shameful Tiki Room is not a speakeasy, but the blackedout windows and heavy curtains create the same sensory reset. Inside is a fully immersive world of vintage tiki drinks, music and theatrical effects.

VANDUSEN FESTIVAL OF LIGHT A million specks of light will replace the garden’s plants as the main attraction. HOUSE OF DOSAS
If it is Monday, you go here. The dosa special is a Vancouver rite of passage. Even outside of that, the portion-to-price ratio holds. THE ORDER: Pakoras ($12), eggplant or palak lamb dosa ($16 to $19) FIND IT: 1391 Kingsway
BON’S OFF BROADWAY
A local legend. Loud, a little rough and exactly what it should be. The all-day breakfast still lands as one of the cheapest full plates in the city.
E
THE ORDER: Breakfast special (two eggs, hash browns, ham and toast, $3) FIND IT: 2451 Nanaimo St. ating out in Vancouver right now is an investment.
But while whitetablecloth spots grab the headlines, the soul of the city’s food scene lives at the counters where value is not a buzzword, it is the standard. If you know which doors to open, you can still get a solid meal without checking your bank balance on the way out the door. Here’s where to find the best dollar-for-calorie ratio in Vancouver right now.
SAY HEY CAFE & DELI
These are not basic sandwiches. They are stacked, thoughtful and consistently worth the price, with a following that keeps growing for a reason. THE ORDER: Meatball hoagie ($19) or mortadella breakfast roll ($12) FIND IT: 156 E Pender St.
NEW TOWN BAKERY & RESTAURANT
If one place defines Vancouver value over the last four decades, it is New Town. While the neighbourhood changes, this place does not. You will see families, regulars and first-timers all lined up for the same thing. The line out the door in 2026 tells you everything you need to know. THE ORDER: Apple tart and a steamed BBQ pork bun to go, or dine in for dim sum ($2 to $12) FIND IT: 148 E Pender St.
FOCACCIAZA
Vancouver’s only focacceria on wheels. Located inside the Vinegar Factory, this spot features handlaminated olive oil bread served straight up or built into sandwiches, alongside soup and biscotti. THE ORDER: Mortadella focaccia sandwich ($7) FIND IT: 1007 E Cordova St.
KAM WAI LEGACY
Kam Wai is the heartbeat of Chinatown. The Pender Street shop is still the go-to for frozen take-home, but the Legacy spot on Hastings gives you a sit-down option without losing that oldschool pricing. THE ORDER: Curry fish balls and the Big Bun ($5 to $8) FIND IT: 2285 Hastings St. (Legacy) and 249 E Pender St. (original)
NORTHERN CAFE
This is the one you tell people about quietly (though it’s hardly a secret anymore). Tucked above a lumberyard on East Kent, it is a bit of a trek and worth it. Old-school diner energy with Chinese comfort dishes, most under $20. THE ORDER: Eggs benny ($18) or pork gyoza ($10) FIND IT: 1640 E Kent Ave. S
DUFFIN’S DONUTS
Duffin’s runs 24 hours and never really slows down. Doughnuts, tortas, fried chicken, all in one place. It is chaotic, affordable and always there when you need it. THE ORDER: Viet mixed ham sub ($8), fried chicken (various) and a honeydipped doughnut ($2) FIND IT: 1391 E 41st Ave.
FUJIYA JAPANESE FOODS
Skip the downtown lunch rush and head to Clark Drive. Part grocery store, part graband-go counter and always busy. Sushi trays and bento boxes move fast and the quality stays consistent. THE ORDER: Shrimp California roll ($9), any tray for a crowd, or bento ($18) FIND IT: 912 Clark Dr.
HAWKERS DELIGHT DELI
This is a no-frills masterclass. It is cramped, hectic and one of the best value meals in the city. Portions are massive and the room is always full. No credit cards. THE ORDER: Hainanese chicken rice ($15), fried kuey teow ($17) or laksa ($15) FIND IT: 4127 Main St.

YALETOWN
Characterized by boutiques, a busy seawall, and some of the city’s most popular restaurants and bars, Yaletown has plenty to do and see. Browse the aisles of The Cross for home decor, shop designer consignment at Mine & Yours, walk or bike the False Creek waterfront, or nerd out on train history at The Roundhouse. Pick up a croissant at Angus T, try the Spicy Vodka pasta at Dovetail, and save a special occasion supper date for the award-winning Elisa steakhouse or a theatrical omakase sushi meal like none other at Okeya Kyujiro.
GASTOWN
With cobblestone streets, heritage buildings, and the infamous Steam Clock, Gastown offers a glimpse into Vancouver’s past. Today, it’s also a vibrant hub for shopping, dining, and nightlife, where old-world charm meets modern style. Fuel up with a coffee from Revolver, grab a boxset Korean lunch at Zoomak, enjoy Michelin Guideendorsed elegant Pacific Northwest fare at L’Abbatoir, and sip wine and slurp oysters in Blood Alley’s Is That French.
KITSILANO
Once a hippie haven, Kits has held onto its laid back and chill nature while also becoming a magnet for modern yogis and stylish folks. West 4th Avenue is packed with boutiques and cafés, but if you make your way north you’ll wind up at the beach. Vanier Park is home to the Museum of Vancouver, the Vancouver Maritime Museum, the City of Vancouver Archives, and the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre. ❱❱

When we opened our doors in Yaletown in 2017, the idea was straightforward: build a room where people genuinely want to be, and take care of them properly once they’re there. No pretense, no unnecessary formality, just a high-end experience that actually feels like a good time.
AjewelinVancouver’s cocktailscene,Prophecy lies tucked beneath the iconic Rosewood Hotel Georgia, offering an enchanting escape into a world where history and innovation collide. Prophecy seamlessly blends vintage elegance with forward-thinking mixology, creating a space as storied as its surroundings.
Navvy House is West Vancouver’s newest everyday gathering place: a waterfront restaurant and bar in the oldest house on the North Shore, where genuine connection, great good, and an easy welcome make it the local’s first choice.
