WELCOME AT CASTLEFEST 2022!

Welcome at Castlefest! What a wonderful feeling to be able to say that again. We missed you all so much! Three years ago was the last time we saw each other here. Three years in which a lot happened and at the same time so little. Time to make up for all those lost moments!

Castlefest 2022 will on the one hand be slightly different than earlier editions, but on the other hand the festival grounds and the lineup both feel like coming home as usual. We have been in hibernation, but last winter it was time to wake up. Since then we’ve worked hard to create a program where we can fully celebrate that we can be together again.

This year, the Wicker Ritual in the form of The Warrior Spirits symbolizes the strength to ride your own path, full of life and love. The herd is there to support you on this path and to carry you when it gets a bit rocky. This is how Castlefest feels as well: we carry each other to be who we want to be.

Of course we have a fantastic musical spectacle with both familiar and new faces. It feels great to have our friends of, amongst others, FAUN, Rapalje and Harmony Glen back on stage. Next to that we’re very honoured to welcome The Trouble Notes, Nebala and Ritual Duir.

We will guarantee a party with bands as Ye Banished Privateers, The SIDH and Prima Nocta! Do you prefer something more dreamy and mesmerising? Make sure to put Cesair, SeeD and EMIAN on your list.

Up for something else than music? Stroll along the many market stalls, enjoy the magical entertainment or participate in one of many workshops. This booklet gives you a guideline to everything that Castlefest has to offer and you can use the QR codes to find more detailed information on our website.

For three years, we’ve been working on the world that means so much to us all. A world where you can be you, in whatever form that may be.

WICKER RITUAL The Wicker Ritual is something we celebrate together every year. On Friday and Saturday you are welcome to put a small flammable offering in the Wicker Warrior Spirits. On Saturday evening the Warrior Spirits go up in flames during the ritual. Let go of the old or make a wish for the future.

THE WARRIOR SPIRITS: RIDE THE PATH OF THE ANCIENT SPIRIT This year we will meet the Wickerman as a pair of horses.

They are fierce, wild, but wise. Together in the herd, there is friendship for life and love to carry each other. After Mother Bear had awakened last year and encouraged us to enjoy life again, it is now time to feel the energy of the horse.

Horses have a deep primordial soul. With their roots in both the physical and invisible world, their knowledge exceeds both worlds. In the middle the spirit of life arises, showing you that you can be loyal to yourself, your intuition and inner strength. Strength to fight down obstacles and overcome barriers and strength to show and receive love within the herd.

The horses invite you to explore: follow new roads and experience space, playfulness and the primal force of freedom. Start small, feel their energy: you are loved, have faith in what you’re doing. Does your path feel unknown and scary? The herd is here for you. Experience their love: that too is strength. Let yourself be carried, feel each other’s warmth. Through friendship and love for each other you will find your way back to the ancient spirit.

The horses will let you ride the waves of life. Their energy will give you the strength to let the waves carry you, to be the waves that wildly choose their own path or to be a tower of strength for the herd within those wild waves.

At Castlefest, you can take part in many activities.

Drop by at the Heathen Gang, where life is celebrated every day. In this spiritual village you’ll get the chance to get to know yourself and your surroundings in a different way. Throughout the day you can follow many workshops. You can make your own offering for the Wicker Ritual or a powerful talisman for yourself and there are multiple healing and trance journey sessions.

For the young visitors we have the Children’s Kingdom, where they can play, craft and go on adventures all day long. And of course, you must not forget about the Kiddy Battle at 17.00h.

Be mesmerized by enchanting body & face art at the Bodypaint area and learn the greatest Balfolk dances during the Balfolk workshop, under guidance of Emelie and with music of Bert Leemans of EmBRUN. Do you need a moment for yourself? At Lifestyle Plaza you can go for a new hairstyle, facepaint to finish your look, a beautiful henna tattoo or a wonderful massage.

For adventurous beings, we highly recommend a visit to the LARP village and take part in the quest or fight training that are offered here. Or try your luck at archery.

After shopping at the market, enjoying wonderful entertainment and dancing to the music, we can imagine you’re in search gaining more in-depth knowledge. At the Castlefest Academy, you can attend interesting workshops, lectures and panels about a range of topics.

Castlefest joined the Green Deal Circulair Festivals movement. On Friday we will tall about how we can make the world a better place. First there is a panel on which role the music & festival industry can play in inspiring people, later a Q&A about which Castlefest takes for this movement. Will you think along?

The ancient wisdoms of priestesses is not forgotten. During this lecture, Margo Awanata shows you their path, on which you’ll learn all about the modern priestess.
