Bring the Outdoors In The Refuge Lifestyle offers cabin, lodge, southwest and western furniture and home décor, including one-of-a-kind and custom pieces. By Deanna Rebro “Wow! I have never seen anything like this!” This is a comment spoken over and over by first-time visitors to The Refuge Lifestyle. Store owners Clinton and Robin Taylor say they are thrilled every time they hear those words. The unique Bixby store at 7600 E. 151st St. is eye candy for anyone who wants the look of rustic elegance in their home, with something special that is not found in every big box retailer. “We strive to be the premier supplier of quality cabin, lodge, southwest and western furniture, décor and accessories in northeastern Oklahoma,” says Clinton. The Refuge Lifestyle offers furnishings and accessories for every
room in the house, wall to wall and floor to ceiling. Natural materials such as logs, barn wood, iron, leather and animal skins capture the beauty of the outdoors and bring it indoors. In the four years the Taylors have been in business, they have gained a reputation for having just the right pieces for the comfortable look of a lake, ranch or mountain home. “We are happy when employees from other stores come in to see what all the buzz is about,” says Robin. Last year, they decided to go a step beyond their initial Aspen log furniture to feature new items that easily blend with a more traditional setting. The look is still
rustic and still elegant, yet far more flexible when it comes to decorating. The risk was big, but worth it. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 1-3, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., they will celebrate their first year under this new concept with an Anniversary Sale. “We were overwhelmed with the way our customers fell in love with our new merchandise,” says Robin. “And we hope people who have never visited will come in to see us this weekend.” Every item of merchandise in the store will be on sale during the threeday event. On Saturday, smoked meats will be available for lunch. (continued on page 22)

Who doesn’t get a thrill from the roar of an engine inside a World War II era combat plane? Just the view alone is enough to give one goose bumps. The history, the emotion, the honor associated with the era can be overwhelming. How often does a person get the chance to see one of these planes up close? How often does one get a chance to actually ride in a 70-year-old open-cockpit aircraft? You can do all of this and more, while supporting one of the most interesting nonprofit organizations around – the Commemorative Air Force. Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 9 and plan on attending the CAF Spirit of Tulsa Squadron’s Wings Over Tulsa and the 12th annual Big Band Hangar Dance at RL Jones airport. The Commemorative Air Force’s main objective is the acquisition, restoration and preservation of combat aircraft. While much of what they do in restoring aircraft happens behind the scenes in hangars and workshops, the CAF’s diligence in preservation and education yields some highly visible and appreciated results. As keeper of many restored combat aircraft, the CAF participates in air (continued on page 22)
