“They’re going to inspect the fireplace system” explained John, Cornerstone Manager. “They’ll do a visual inspection… then put a camera literally in all the way up through that pipe all the way to the top of the chimney.” What they’re looking for is creosote buildup and potential damage. “The flue pipe acts like a drinking straw,” he adds. “If there are any gaps or broken pieces, it can’t pull the smoke and gas and heat out of the house.”

Letting creosote accumulate? That’s a fire hazard. “It just bakes onto the walls and turns into a glassy look,” he says. “To get it off, it’s a three-day process.” That’s why Cornerstone recommends annual inspections to avoid costly, dangerous buildup.
