When Main Street Becomes a Gallery

or one weekend each fall, Main Street in Broken Arrow changes. The streets of the Rose District become a temporary outdoor gallery. Original artwork covers the pavement, artists work in the middle of the street and people walk from one piece to the next. When the festival is over, the art is gone. That is part of what makes Chalk It Up special. Chalk It Up returns September 11-12 for its 14th year. The free, familyfriendly festival is produced by ARTSOK. We do it because we believe access to the arts makes a community a better place to live. The arts give people opportunities to create, express themselves and experience something together. They also bring people into our community and help make a downtown feel active and welcoming.

Chalk Art Competition The centerpiece is the chalk art competition. More than 50 artists of different ages and experience levels create large 10-by-10-foot works directly on Main Street. Some are professional artists. Others are emerging artists or people who simply want to try something new. They all have the same canvas: the pavement. The chalk is only part of the weekend. The Rose Festival takes place alongside Chalk It Up, adding another reason to spend time in the Rose District. Visitors will find local artists selling handmade work, a community gallery art contest at Arts@302, food trucks and live entertainment. People come to see the chalk art and the roses, but they often stay to shop, eat, listen to music, and visit with friends. A Community Event Although Chalk It Up takes place in Broken Arrow, it is not just a Broken Arrow event. Artists, vendors and visitors come from throughout the Tulsa region and beyond. People travel here to participate in the chalk competition, sell their work and enjoy the festival. That regional participation is important to us. It shows what can happen when a community creates something people want to be part of. Keeping the festival free is an important part of our mission. Chalk It Up is made possible through partnerships with businesses and organizations that sponsor the festival or participate as exhibitors. Their support helps pay for the festival and allows anyone to come and experience it without buying a ticket. Main Street becomes a place where people gather around art. Artists are working, families are walking through the streets and thousands of people are sharing the same space. Then the festival ends, the streets are cleaned and the chalk disappears. Main Street goes back to normal. But for two days, people get to see what happens when a community makes room for the arts.

wo sisters who share the love of food and family shape this delicious new shop in Tulsa. Natasha spent over 22 years as an Army combat medic; when she and her sister, Angela Person, picked a date to open their new dessert shop, only one made sense: Veterans Day. On Nov. 11, 2025, the two opened The Peach Cobbler Factory in Tulsa at 81st St. and Hwy. 169, turning the holiday into the start of a family legacy they hope will carry through their children and grandchildren. “We chose to bring The Peach Cobbler Factory to Tulsa because we wanted to do something very different,” Angela said. The Peach Cobbler Factory is a loved dessert franchise built around warm, made to order cobblers and Southern banana pudding, a change of pace for the Tulsa dessert scene. The sisters wanted Northeastern Oklahoma to be among the first in the region to taste it.

The Path to Peach Cobbler Angela’s path started young. In high school, she took a job as a crew member at a local McDonald’s and stayed 30 years, climbing steadily through hard work until she was named Director of Operations. That drive carried her into this new venture. The idea to own a franchise took the sisters to Florida for Discovery Day at The Peach Cobbler Factory headquarters. “It was hurricane season when we were invited to Discovery Day,” Angela recalled. “After the interview process, we were approved and made

the decision to move forward.” The leap was intimidating at first, she admitted, but the sisters pushed through it together. Natasha and Angela have always done nearly everything together, and their roles reflect a partnership built on trust. At home, Natasha runs the show. At The Peach Cobbler Factory, Angela is in charge. Together, they call themselves best friends first and business partners second. What should dessert lovers order first? The top seller is the peach cobbler itself, a warm, buttery, golden crusted classic bursting with tender, sweet peaches in every spoonful. Close behind is the OG Original Banana Pudding, a rich, creamy, old fashioned Southern recipe layered with vanilla wafers that tastes like grandma’s kitchen. Third most popular is the four item flight, letting guests pick any four cobblers or puddings at four ounces each, perfect for sharing or simply not choosing just one favorite. The menu goes well beyond those favorites. Fresh baked cinnamon rolls are a favorite for hostess gifts, client thank yous, and group events. Guests can also dig into rich cheesecake cups topped with cobbler or pudding, warm churro stix dusted in cinnamon sugar, and thick, indulgent brownies. “Our shakes are phenomenal,” Natasha said. “They are made with banana pudding and cobblers.” The newest addition is the Refresher, a cool, fruity drink that lives up to its name.

Natasha Johnson Originally from Pawhuska, Oklahoma, Natasha is a retired Army combat medic with more than 22 years of service. She now teaches Medical Assisting, Phlebotomy Technology, and CPR at Tulsa Tech, where she was named 2025 Adjunct Instructor of the Year. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management and works as a medication aide at assisted living centers when time allows, driven by a deep passion for caring for the elderly. She loves Jesus, cruising and reading, and has been married to her husband, Reginald, for 28 years. Together they have two children and one grandchild. Angela Person Angela was born in Leavenworth, Kansas, while her father was stationed there in the military. She began her career in high school as a crew member at Tulsa and Broken Arrow area McDonald’s locations and worked her way up to Director of Operations over 30 years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management and Administration. Angela and her husband, Orlando, have been together for 20 years and have five children together.

or nearly 12 years, Ron Burrows has brought a steady, practical approach to serving Rogers County as the District 3 County Commissioner. As chairperson of the Board of County Commissioners, he helps guide countywide business with a focus on clear priorities and responsible management. Burrows continues to pull from decades of private sector management and finance experience, including leadership at the Claremore Expo Center and senior retail management roles, to guide his work in county government. That’s how we build a stronger county,” he said. “County government works best when commissioners can discuss issues in public meetings, disagree respectfully when needed, and still stay focused on serving the public. We each bring different perspectives to the table, but our responsibilities are the same, which is to represent our citizens, support our staff, keep essential services and projects moving, and make decisions that are in the

best interest of Rogers County citizens,” Burrows said. That same practical approach extends to Burrows’ involvement with the National Association of Counties (NACo), where he has presented and received ideas that can be adapted to local and national needs. His committee work gives him opportunities to learn from county leaders across the country, share Rogers County solutions, and bring useful insights back home to benefit Rogers County and other Oklahoma counties. Mental Health Initiatives Among those national conversations, mental health has stood out as one of the most pressing challenges facing counties, along with other issues that continue to shape county government priorities. “Mental health emerged in recent years as a leading public concern and top issue for local governments and counties across the U.S. with rising rates of anxiety, depression, and service gaps that challenged counties and cities to find scalable, accessible responses,” he said. Burrows networked with Erie County (New York) at a NACo conference to learn from their work with a mental health resource app. The Rogers County Commissioners are working together to launch the “Better Together Connect” mobile mental health crisis app. “We look for proven ideas elsewhere and adapt them to fit Rogers County. This mobile app will put immediate and long-term resources in the hands of all our citizens in need,” Burrows said. Infrastructure Maintenance Burrows also advanced a data

driven pavement management process that uses GIS services to inventory and monitor road conditions throughout Rogers County. The system records pavement status and helps prioritize repairs or replacements based on condition and lifecycle, potential cost, and gives him and his road foreman a clearer way to plan projects based on priority and funding. The goal is to make road safety, pavement life, and limited resources easier to manage. “With the number of road miles in District 3, it is not realistic for us to personally drive, record, and document every condition on every road. This system gives us an efficient, data driven way to identify needs, set priorities, and make the best use of limited road funding,” he said. Infrastructure work is about more than fixing one road or filling one pothole, he added. It is about having systems, equipment, and responsible budgeting in place to respond to everyday needs while planning larger projects. Burrows said Infrastructure needs are substantial; the pavement system has identified $30-40 million for repairs on critical roads and bridges in his district. “The one-penny sales tax generates $4 million annually

per district for road repair, equipment, and payroll. The district receives a large volume of work orders annually, limiting road improvement capacity to about 20 miles per year of new road surface. To give more insight into those efforts, since 2022, District 3 has processed 3,115 work orders. Some requests remain “open” because they are bundled into larger road rehabilitation projects and remain active until the broader project is complete. District 3’s infrastructure work is spread throughout the district, with the highest volume of work orders originating in Inola (680), Claremore rural (505), Verdigris (448), Inola rural (312), and Catoosa rural (251). Potholes and mowing related tasks remain among the most frequent service categories, along with culvert installations, culvert evaluations, and road repairs. Road Safety Initiatives “Every completed work order represents a real issue for a citizen, and our goal is to handle those needs efficiently, safely, and in a way that makes the best use of taxpayer dollars,” Burrows emphasized. “Public safety is our year-round priority, and that includes keeping our roads clear and visible. During the spring and summer, vegetation grows faster than our crews can mow, which creates visibility hazards.”

Shuterra has contracted with over 40 counties and manages 7,500 miles of county right-of-way. While the application may appear unattractive during the initial phase, Burrows emphasizes that this is a sign of the process working. “It’s important for residents to know that the visual change is temporary,” he explained. “As the treatment suppresses invasive Johnson grass and weeds, it creates the space for native Bermuda grass to take over. After a few rainfalls, the Bermuda grass thrives, creating a much cleaner, more uniform look. Not only does this enhance road safety and driver visibility, but it also saves a significant amount of taxpayer dollars by reducing the need for constant, labor-intensive mowing.” To prepare for winter weather, District 3 invested in brine equipment and operating routines that allow crews to treat miles of county roads days before storms arrive at a fraction of previous costs. “The goal is to be prepared before the storm hits. With the brine program, our crews can treat more road miles in advance, improve safety for drivers, and save taxpayer dollars at the same time,” he said. Proactive Infrastructure Management He added, “Responsible budgeting means planning beyond today’s needs and making decisions that strengthen the county for the long term. Looking ahead will always bring new challenges, but looking back shows the importance of having clear strategies, steady planning, and practical systems in place.” For Burrows, the progress District 3 has made reflects not only better processes, but also the commitment of the crews carrying out the work every day. “When I look back at where we started and compare it to the volume and complexity of the work we handle today, I’m incredibly proud of our team’s performance. We aren’t just reacting to problems; we’re proactively managing our infrastructure. Whether it’s a quick repair or a long-term rehabilitation project, every work order represents our commitment to keeping Rogers County moving safely and efficiently.” Opioid Abatement Program Burrows’ major accomplishments and initiatives in opioid abatement, fiscal stewardship, economic development, and regional partnerships help shape the county’s growth in several areas.

The City of Claremore’s and Rogers County’s Opioid Abatement program is now in its third year of operation. Supported by a three-year grant and multiple funding sources, the project achieved maximum-tier funding of $1,050,000. Through agency partnerships and contract awards, the program strengthens accountability and service delivery. It also expanded GED and high school equivalency programming in the county jail, beginning in March 2025, which has served 86 students with an 80% pass rate across 44 tests. Programming has also expanded into sober living homes, with plans to add classes at Live Free using opioid settlement dollars. The partner’s opioid abatement strategy is a comprehensive framework designed to combat the drug epidemic through evidencebased prevention, treatment, and resource distribution funded by national settlements. Managed by the Oklahoma Opioid Abatement Board, the state provides critical grants to local subdivisions to support holistic initiatives such as expanding Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD), increasing naloxone access, and investing in long-term stability through supported employment and housing. “We are committed to using these settlement funds to create a real, measurable change in our community. By prioritizing these evidence-based programs, we aren’t just treating the symptoms of the epidemic; we are building a foundation of support, education, and stability that gives our citizens a genuine path to recovery and a better future,” he said. ackwoods Music Festival (formerly known as Backwoods Bash) is an independent music and camping festival promoting original music and rising talent. The festival is also home to art, workshops, and a variety of fun for all ages. Though its promoters announced cancellation in 2024, the festival now returns with Backwoods & Friends at Cain’s Ballroom on November 22, 2026. For Dr. Trevor Lane the cancellation of Backwoods Music Festival was like hearing from his college-aged son stranded on the side of the road. Though Lane parted ways a decade earlier with the festival he created, he expected a time may come when it re-entered his life. While the Internet declared Backwoods’ seventeenyear run was over, Lane saw a pathway to revitalization and got to work on bringing it home. The festival was not dead, it just needed some roadside assistance, a homecooked meal and a new plan.

ull into the parking lot at 91st and Elm on a Tuesday afternoon and you’ll smell it before you see the sign. Hickory smoke. The kind that takes all day to get right. That’s Billy Ray’s Catfish & BBQ Company, and if you haven’t been, there are probably people in your neighborhood who’ve been meaning to tell you about it. Tyler and Teresa Roberts have run the Broken Arrow location since 2011, carrying on a tradition that Teresa’s stepfather Billy Ray Cooper started back in 1984 with a single spot on Southwest Boulevard in Tulsa. Billy Ray passed in 2018, but the recipes, some of them traced back to a handwritten collection found in Grandma’s silver chest, haven’t changed a lick. His wife Sherry still runs the original Tulsa location. Teresa and Tyler hold down Broken Arrow, and they do it well. Tyler will tell you, “The best part of the job isn’t the food, it’s our regulars.” “I love most interacting with our guests,” he said. “We’ve been seeing many of the same people for 15 years and meeting all of the new people who were recommended to our restaurant.” Fifteen years of the same faces. That’s not customer retention it’s satisfaction.

Why Catfish and BBQ? Because Nothing Else Comes Close. There’s a reason fried catfish has been a staple of Southern and Midwestern cooking for generations. Done right, with mild, flaky filets coated in seasoned cornmeal and dropped into hot peanut oil, it’s hard to improve on. Oklahoma’s Official Travel & Tourism website flat-out calls Billy Ray’s catfish “out of this world.” One TripAdvisor reviewer made the drive from out of town, liked it so much he came back the very next evening, and wrote that it was the catfish specifically that “won me over.” The BBQ side of the menu operates on a different kind of patience. Ribs, brisket, pulled pork, smoked turkey, bologna, sausage links, and chopped chicken all spend the better part of a day over hickory wood. You can’t fake that. The meat either earned its smoke ring or it didn’t. At Billy Ray’s, it has, every time, for more than 40 years. Teresa Roberts puts the philosophy plainly, We love being a town staple and don’t plan to fix what isn’t broken. The recipes are the recipes. he 112th Rogers County Fair is coming to the Claremore Expo Grounds, 400 Veterans Pkwy., Claremore, Sept. 17-20, and organizers say this year’s event is shaping up to be the best one yet. This year’s theme celebrates two milestones at once: America’s 250th anniversary and the Route 66 Centennial. It is a fitting tribute for a northeast Oklahoma community that sits squarely on the Mother Road and takes its American heritage seriously. Fairgoers can expect both indoor and outdoor activities, shopping and entertainment across the four-day event, blending the charm of a classic county fair with a few modern surprises. The indoor spaces will house the popular County Square vendor area, where food vendors of all kinds will set up alongside a full section dedicated to Made in Rogers County Oklahoma artisans offering one-of-a-kind, locally crafted products. “If you’re looking for the famous Blue and Gold Sausage, Mr. Boyer and Claremore FFA will be inside the County Square vendor area,” said Rogers County Fair board member Susan Gebhart. Expanded Carnival New this year is an expanded carnival, and Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights will feature live music. Returning crowd favorites include Tulsa Balloons’ “Bubble Guy” with his foam cannon for kids and Mini Cuddles Ranch. Admission and parking are free, with plenty of room for families to navigate comfortably. Thursday night’s opening fireworks show will be something to remember. “This year our opening night fireworks display will be synced to music and will be an amazing experience,” said Rogers County Fair Co-Manager Wendy Woody. The fair’s animal barn remains one of its most beloved traditions. Exhibitors will show animals ranging from a half-pound up to 1,800 pounds, and local youth will compete across livestock categories throughout the weekend.

“It’s fascinating to watch the kids with their animals and all of the care they give them to reach the county fair,” Gebhart said. Deep Agricultural Roots What some visitors may not expect is the fair’s deep agricultural education component. FFA and 4-H projects are displayed throughout the fairgrounds, from award-winning ag sciences posters to complex welding projects. Open competition categories in gardening and other areas invite both youth and adults to show off their best work. “There is something for everyone here,” said Rogers County Fair Co-Manager Maggie DeBoer. No fair visit is complete without picking up one of the annual commemorative posters. Minnesota-based professional photographer and graphic design artist Maverick Englehart has created the Rogers County Fair poster every year for a decade, and this year’s America 250 and Route 66 design marks his 10th. The collectible prints, measuring 17 by 28 inches, are available at the Claremore Expo Grounds for $5 to $10 each. The money bid is a premium (a financial prize) used to fund new projects or go into the student’s educational fund,” said Susan Gebhart, Rogers County Premium Auction Committee. “Besides bidding in the sale, the community may also contribute to students in the auction through add-on contributions.” Add-on donations can be made during the live auction or through a link on Premium Sale Face Book Event Page in any amount. The online add-on site is linked to www.rogerscountyfair.com/premium-sale, and is open from September 21 to October 18. “We are always happy to see how quickly $10 here or $20 there adds up,” Gebhart expressed.

About Each fall the Rogers County Fair is a seasonal highlight for Northeastern Oklahoma families. According to fair officials there are nearly 30,000 visitors to the fair during its four-day run, it’s a 112-year-old tradition where attendees experience family fun, entertainment, and rural living. The Rogers County Junior Premium Auction is scheduled Monday, September 21, 2026, 5:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., at the Claremore Expo Center located at 400 Veterans Pkwy. in Claremore, OK. You can meet the students beginning at 5:00 p.m. and the auction begins at 6:30 p.m. The auction, referred to as the Premium Sale, highlights the best in the livestock shows. The top 89 exhibitors in the livestock shows representing champions and winners in cattle (beef and dairy) sheep, swine, and goats are eligible to sell in the Premium Sale. All the sale participants are student exhibitors taking part in FFA and 4-H youth livestock programs in Rogers County. Don’t worry, you don’t actually take an animal home, instead this is a fun-for-all bidding event for an important cause that benefits FFA and 4-H student livestock projects and agricultural education. Students compete in the livestock shows during the fair to showcase their animals and test their showmanship

skills. “It takes hours of work raising, training, feeding, grooming, exercise, and creating ideal living conditions for animals to live up to their genetic potential,” explains Gebhart. “While it may look like a casual beauty contest to some observers, these events are built with students’ education, hard work, family and community support, focus, perseverance, and determination. The skills our students develop in these programs enhance our future food chain, produce better students, excellent employees, and future business leaders in many other professions. We count amongst our alumni of the Rogers County Junior Premium Auction many students with well-known names in government, business, banking, medicine, law, and agriculture,” she emphasized. Showmanship Scholarships The Premium Sale also serves to present outstanding students with scholarships earned by the Senior Showmanship Champion in each of the livestock species plus Senior Horse Showmanship winner. Gebhart said, “Champions receive a 1-year scholarship to Rogers State University, with 6 division winners each year. It’s a significant achievement for those kids and a very generous offering from Rogers State University.” High Bids = Educational Investment “We hope you’ll support our local FFA and 4-H youth during the Rogers County Junior Premium Sale. If you attend in person arrive early to meet the students where you can learn more about the impact and importance of your donations,” Gebhart added.

ery soon, visitors will once again have the opportunity to experience one of the most important historic sites in the Cherokee Nation. As preparations begin for the annual Will Rogers Birthday celebration in early November, the Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch near Oologah is nearing completion of a major restoration, preparing the historic home to welcome a new generation to the place Will Rogers first called home.

White House on the Prairie The stately home overlooking Oologah Lake has long been known as the “White House on the Prairie.” Built in 1875—four years before Will Rogers was born on November 4, 1879—the home is being restored by the Cherokee Nation following its acquisition of the property from the State of Oklahoma in June 2023. Although visitors see the home on a hilltop overlooking Oologah Lake today, this is not its original location. In 1960, construction of Oologah Dam flooded the Verdigris River valley where the Rogers home had stood for most of its first century. To save the landmark, the house was moved approximately one mile west to its present location. The original homesite now rests beneath the waters of Oologah Lake. Yet the birthplace ranch is much more than the place where Will Rogers spent his childhood. It was his family’s home. The Rogers Ranch and the Cherokee Nation The ranch was home to Clement Vann Rogers, his wife Mary America Schrimsher Rogers, and their children. CHEROKEE KID The Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch tells the story of a family, a nation, and the foundation of America’s favorite cowboy philosopher.

before Will became known around the world as the “Cherokee Kid.” The story of the ranch is also the story of the Cherokee Nation. The Rogers ranch was made possible by the Cherokee Nation’s system of common land ownership during the nineteenth century. Cherokee citizens were permitted to improve and operate ranches on tribally owned common lands, encouraging agriculture and livestock production while preserving the Nation’s ownership of its homeland. Under that system, the Rogers family built one of the largest and most respected ranching operations in the Cherokee Nation. Rogers Family Legacy Clement Vann Rogers was far more than the father of a famous son. He was a Cherokee senator, district judge, successful businessman, rancher, and progressive agricultural leader. Clem embraced innovation while practicing careful stewardship of the land. His ranch became one of the finest in the Cherokee Nation. From his father, young Will developed a lifelong love of horses and land. Those early lessons shaped both his skills and his character. Mary Rogers was equally important to the family’s legacy. An exceptional hostess, she made the Rogers home a gathering place for friends and visitors. The White House on the Prairie became a center of social and cultural life within the CooWeeScooWee District of the Cherokee Nation. Her wit, and gift for conversation helped shape the personality that would later captivate audiences around the world. The ranch also became Will’s first classroom. Hands-On Education Will did not thrive in a traditional school setting. The classroom did not hold his attention, but the ranch did. There he learned to ride horses and developed the roping skills that would make him one of the world’s most famous ropers. His education

was hands-on—built on observation, repetition, hard work, and mentorship. Will credited his early roping instruction not to his father but to Dan Walker, a man who had been enslaved by the Rogers family before Will was born. After emancipation, Walker remained with the family as a ranch hand and passed along the horsemanship and rope skills that helped launch Will’s career. Those skills carried Will far beyond the ranch. The young Cherokee cowboy took what he learned on the prairie to become one of the world’s most recognizable entertainers and America’s top box-office star for several years. Yet he never forgot his Cherokee roots or the lessons learned at home. The Legacy of Oklahoma’s Favorite Son The preservation of the birthplace reflects a long-standing commitment to history. Members of the Rogers family gifted the property to the State of Oklahoma to preserve the legacy of the Cherokee Kid, later known as Oklahoma’s Favorite Son. In June 2023, the Cherokee Nation assumed ownership, ensuring the story continues for generations. Although celebrated as Oklahoma’s Favorite Son, Will Rogers never actually lived in the State of Oklahoma. By statehood in 1907, he had already left Indian Territory to pursue his career. His childhood and formative years unfolded within the Cherokee Nation. As restoration nears completion, the White House on the Prairie begins a new chapter. More than a birthplace, it is a family home. More than a museum, it is a place where the stories of the Rogers family, Cherokee ranching, self-government, and one of America’s most beloved figures come together. As Will Rogers’ birthday approaches each November, there is no better place to reflect on his life than where it began—on the porch overlooking beautiful Oologah Lake.

ttention on a single screen has fallen to 47 seconds, down from about 2 1/2 minutes in 2004, according to two decades of tracking by University of California, Irvine professor Gloria Mark. Children absorb the hit hardest. Common Sense Media’s 2025 census found kids ages 5 to 8 average 3 hours 28 minutes of screen media daily. Diagnosed anxiety among U.S. adolescents rose 61%, from 10.0% to 16.1%, between 2016 and 2023, National Survey of Children’s Health data show. The trends are connected. Fragmented attention starves kids of practice at what makes social settings survivable: eye contact, sitting through silence, recovering from a mistake in front of other people. Online, a mistake can be deleted. In a room of peers, it isn’t. Focus As A Trainable Skill Martial Arts Academy in Owasso treats focus as a trainable skill. Founded in 2003 by Chris Velez, owner and chief instructor, it trains ages 4 through adult in blocks where phones never reach the floor. “During the class they don’t have the option of being distracted by technology,” Velez said. Students hold “laser beam focus” for 10

to 20 minutes, immersed in the action being taught. Structure starts at the door with a bow and a “Yes sir” or “Yes ma’am.” “The strengths are built from the inside out, and from the minute they walk through the door and throughout, they are intentionally focused,” Velez said. Three Steps To Discipline Discipline builds slowly, on three steps: be calm and listen, watch the demonstration, perform the move. That is the opposite of the fast-fast-fast pace students know, and Velez said it converts into performing instinctively under pressure. The method has evidence behind it. A randomized trial of 240 British schoolchildren ages 7 to 11 found 11 weeks of martial arts training improved teacher rated attentional control and reduced conduct problems versus a standard gym class control group. Tapping Dormant Potential Velez, teaching students of all ages for more than 27 years, said students are not ridiculed when they address the group, and they find that failure is survivable. “Potential lies dormant until demand is placed on potential,” he said. “In here we call them Black Belts. Out there they are known as leaders.” Families agree. One reviewer wrote that Velez “knows how to connect with them, keep their attention, and make classes both fun and educational.” An eight year student credited training focused on “setting goals, inspiring leaders, and developing strong personal character.” Next step for parents: Call to schedule a private introductory lesson.
