WHY MOVE WHEN YOU CAN IMPROVE?

In today’s housing market it may be wiser to improve your current home than move to a new home. Often, it is a better choice to stay versus leave after weighing the high cost of moving, high interest rates, and the ability to customize your current home to your own tastes, not to mention, you know the strength of what you are currently living in versus an unknown property. Remodeling may be the cost-effective “fresh start” you are looking for.

This was a personal decision that a couple I talked to recently needed to make. They loved their neighbors and neighborhood, their yard with mature trees, the size of their home, and the many memories they shared while raising their family. They began contemplating. Moving costs alone were estimated to be at least $30,000.00, interest rates were double what they were when the couple originally purchased their home, and the time to find a new home and integrate into a new neighborhood would have proven difficult. Ultimately, their

decision was to renovate. Today, they have a new kitchen and bath, added new exterior features, and feel as if they have stepped into a brand-new home. Certainly, there were some inconveniences during construction, however nothing compared to packing up and moving to a different residence.

How do you start a home renovation?

Many homeowners create renovation plans in stages that begins with the kitchen for that “fresh feeling” of a new home. Mid-range kitchen remodels typically include a new layout to modernize the look and improve overall functionality. Example upgrades usually include a cabinet overhaul, new countertops, appliances, lighting, and floors. The cabinetry is key to the layout of the kitchen’s functionality.

How does Premium Cabinets of Tulsa help with home renovation?

Established in 2010, Premium Cabinets of Tulsa has built a strong reputation for providing homeowners, builders, and businesses with a full range of affordable cabinetry options. Father and son team, Gary and Austin Gullic have years of experience in the cabinetry business. They specialize in superiorclass new and replacement cabinetry for kitchens, bathrooms, and whole-home storage solutions. Using 3-D design software, they personally work with their clients on design for optimal functionality and inspired aesthetics.

2026 GOLD SEAL BEST CHOICE KITCHENS & CABINETS

Austin remembers that as a child, he spent a great deal of time with his grandmother.  She had rheumatoid arthritis, and he remembers how she labored in the kitchen.  “I remember watching her struggle with pots and pans, and figuring out those sorts of pains helps me put my customers in a winning situation,” said Austin.  His grandmother’s kitchen was one of his very first cabinetry projects.  “Being able to solve those pain points is going to make you love your kitchen.”

How long does a kitchen remodel take?

Part of the Premium Cabinets process is 3D design, which is included for free.  From start to finish, a project can be completed within two to three months, and some projects even sooner.  As their cabinets are completely finished before installation, time spent without use of the space is minimal, and there are no dangerous fumes.  Their cabinetry is the highest quality available on the market.  “We don’t cheap out because we want our reputation to

speak for us,” Austin said.  “We’re Premium Cabinets, so that means that everything gets fully upgraded.”

The company offers dozens of colors, door styles, and hardware to choose from…including the latest trends.

Premium Cabinets of Tulsa design services can enhance not only a kitchen or bath, but can extend to built-ins around entertainment centers and fireplaces, or storage in game rooms, and even wine cabinets.  There are endless possibilities to increase the organizational flow within a home.

Appointments are recommended. For more information on their design and cabinetry services, visit their website at  www.premiumcabinets.com/tulsa or call for an appointment at (918) 549-5553.

This is a no-cost or pre-pay service to put your wishes on file, it’s completely free to prepare. It’s an option for those who may have an older pet and want to have certainty about the next steps upon their pets’ death and alleviates some of the pain during this difficult time,” explained Angel.

WHAT IS DOING

Oklahoma homeowners are accustomed to severe weather. Tornadoes, lightning storms, high winds, heavy rain, freezing temperatures, and even earthquakes are part of life here.

What many homeowners do not realize is that these same forces are constantly attacking one of the most exposed parts of the home: the chimney.

Because chimneys sit above the roofline, they take the full impact of Oklahoma weather year after year. Damage often begins small and hidden, but over time it can lead to water leaks, structural problems, or safety risks inside the home.

Mother Nature is one of the leading causes of chimney damage across Oklahoma. The experience of a severe weather event can be overwhelming. For example, a Cornerstone Chimneys customer related that when lightning struck her chimney the glass fireplace doors were astonishingly forced from its hinges flying across the room and striking her recliner.

For four decades, Cornerstone Chimneys has helped homeowners identify and repair weather related chimney damage before it becomes a costly problem. The company is firefighter founded, veteran-owned, and built on safety. Founded by Fire Captain Wendell Evans and operated by firefighters and veterans, the company has specialized in chimney inspection, repair, and safety since 1979.

Understanding how Oklahoma weather affects your chimney is the first step toward protecting your home. Cornerstone Chimneys in Tulsa is a licensed, and insured chimney service company featuring technicians with CSIA (Chimney Safety Institute of America) and NFI (National Fireplace Institute) certifications. They are recognized for HeatShield factory-trained

OKLAHOMA WEATHER TO YOUR CHIMNEY RIGHT NOW

How storms, lightning, and freezing temperatures quietly damage fireplaces and chimneys

expertise and professional, comprehensive inspections.

Lightning Damage

Oklahoma experiences thousands of lightning strikes every year. When lightning strikes a chimney directly, the intense heat can crack masonry, break chimney crowns, and even damage the flue liner inside the chimney.

Even lightning strikes nearby can create fractures that allow moisture to enter the chimney structure.

“Because the flue system runs inside the chimney, lightning damage is often not visible from the ground. Professional chimney inspections can identify hidden damage before it causes water intrusion or safety hazards,” explained Cornerstone Chimneys Lead Chimney Inspector Bob. He added, “One sign of damage is a smell like a barbeque grill in your fireplace. We use the latest camera technology equipment.” The inspector begins by inspecting your interior chimney and fireplace. The next step is the exterior inspection of your chimney and surrounding rooftop area. After the inspection is finalized, you receive an easy to understand diagnostic report and estimate if repairs are needed.

Bob also said damage can include the sealant or the flashing can be compromised which would allow water to leak into your home. Additionally, water damage from hard rains with winds can slowly deteriorate your chimney flue pipe resulting in improper ventilation.

Tornadoes and High Winds

Living in Tornado Alley means chimneys are exposed to powerful wind forces.

High winds and flying debris can damage chimney caps, loosen flashing

around the chimney base, and crack masonry structures. Tree limbs and storm debris can also strike chimneys directly.

Even when the damage appears minor, small openings can allow rainwater to enter the chimney system and begin damaging brick, mortar, and interior components.

Many storm related chimney repairs are covered by homeowners’ insurance, especially when the damage is caused by wind or debris.

Earthquakes and Structural Movement

Oklahoma has experienced an increase in seismic activity in recent years. Even small tremors can affect masonry structures like chimneys.

Because chimneys are tall and rigid, ground movement can cause cracks in mortar joints or damage to flue liners inside the chimney system.

These small cracks can allow smoke, moisture, or combustion gases to escape into areas of the home where they should not be. A camera inspection inside the flue is often necessary to detect this type of hidden damage.

Water Intrusion

Water is one of the most destructive forces affecting chimneys.

Without proper chimney caps, crowns, and flashing, rainwater can easily enter the chimney structure. Over time, moisture begins breaking down mortar joints, rusting metal components, and weakening brick.

Many homeowners first notice chimney leaks when they see stains on ceilings or walls near the fireplace.

By the time those signs appear, damage may already be occurring inside the chimney system.

Routine inspections and preventative

maintenance can significantly extend the life of a chimney.

Freezing Temperatures

Oklahoma winters bring repeated freeze and thaw cycles.

When water enters small cracks in masonry and freezes, it expands. This expansion slowly forces bricks and mortar apart.

Over time this process can cause bricks to crumble, mortar joints to deteriorate, and sections of the chimney to weaken.

Addressing these issues early can prevent larger and more expensive structural repairs.

Protect Your Home Before the Next Storm

Routine chimney inspections help identify small problems before they become serious damage.

The Chimney Safety Institute of America recommends that chimneys be inspected at least once each year, especially before fireplace season begins.

For more than forty years, Cornerstone Chimneys has provided chimney inspections, masonry repair, storm damage repair, and fireplace services throughout the Tulsa area.

Their technicians are certified by the Chimney Safety Institute of America and focus on safety, craftsmanship, and longterm protection for homeowners.

If your home has experienced recent storms, high winds, or heavy rain, it may be a good time to have your chimney system inspected. To schedule your inspection call (918) 251- 3840, or online at Cornerstonechimneys.com.

IINSURANCE COST

“REALITY CHECK” YOU OWE YOUR BUDGET AN

n an age of 1-800 numbers and hold music that could put anyone to sleep, there’s something refreshingly human about walking into an office where the people know your name—and your deductible. Meet Alex and Abrina Tarasenko, the energetic husband-and-wife team behind Everything Insurance Group, based right here in Tulsa.

The Tarasenkos aren’t your run-of-the-mill insurance brokers. “We work for the people, not the companies,” Alex says. “Being brokers means we can shop around the carriers for you, instead

of just pushing one company’s rates.” And with auto and home premiums in Oklahoma spiking an average of $2,296 over the past year, now sitting just behind Florida and Kansas, you’ll want that shopping power on your side.

Everything Insurance Group Connects With Clients

But it’s not just about the numbers. The team at Everything Insurance Group thrives on connection. “We still do face-to-face consultations,” Abrina says. “We’re here when something goes wrong, not just to sell you a policy and disappear.”

And let’s be real, insurance talk can be… well, dry. That’s why Alex and Abrina take a lighthearted approach. “Right now, everything’s going up. Groceries, gas, premiums. We want to help people navigate that without adding stress,” says Abrina. “If you have insurance, this article is for you,” she jokes.

Everything Insurance Group Saves Clients Money

Their team isn’t just focused on making things cheaper, they make them smarter, too. Alex shares, “many people carry Oklahoma’s state minimum for property damage, just $25,000. But hit a car like my wife’s van, worth $40,000, and you’re personally responsible for the rest. That’s $15,000 out of pocket!” The fix? Often, it’s as little as $5 more per month to increase coverage dramatically.

In recent months, Everything Insurance has saved its clients “hundreds to thousands in premiums without reducing coverage.” That’s not just insurance, that’s impact.

Everything Insurance Group Works With Medicare

But the Tarasenkos aren’t stopping at auto and home. They’re

passionate about Medicare, too, especially for those living with chronic conditions like diabetes or heart disease. “If you’re on Medicare and have diabetes (type 1 or 2) or any heart condition, past or present, you could qualify for extra benefits,” Alex explains. “We’re talking dental, vision, even food and gas benefits, and part of your Medicare Part B premium is paid for.”

And the best part? You don’t have to wait until fall. “These plans are available year-round,” says Alex. “People just don’t know about them.”

Everything Insurance Group Makes Insurance Easier

So, whether you’re looking to protect your home, your car, or your health, Alex and Abrina Tarasenko make insurance feel a little less overwhelming—and a lot more personal.

With Everything Insurance Group, you’re not just another policyholder. You’re a neighbor. And for them, that still means something.

& SOFT WASHING

CLEAN RESULTS

In Oklahoma, where red dirt meets wild weather, Devin Duncanson has built something remarkable with “Oklahoma’s Best Power Washing and Soft Washing Services.” What started as a passion project—born from long hours of pressure washing parking lots — has grown into a respected business committed to keeping homes and commercial properties looking their best. This is a local family business operated by Devin and his mother Soni Duncanson.

Gutter Cleaning

Rain can create an obvious appearance of organic fungi on walkways, patios, driveways, siding, decks, and roofs; as well as its effects on overall proper gutter function. While often overlooked, clean gutters play a critical role in preserving a home’s integrity and appearance.

“Clogged gutters don’t just look bad, they cause real damage,” Devin explained. “When gutters overflow because of packed debris, the water spills over, creating dirt streaks, holes in the yard, and even leads to mold on the siding.”

Roof Cleaning

Roof cleaning, a newer addition to their services, is another significant change. “Sometimes people think they need a new roof,” said Devin. “But it just needs to be cleaned. Mold and debris can eat away at your shingles if left unchecked.” Devin’s highly-rated results are based on his knowledge of chemical treatments coupled with his professional equipment.

His reputation for excellence is not just based on skill but on dedication. Devin is known for making multiple passes if unsatisfied with the results. “If something’s not right, I fix it. It’s

that simple. If the customer’s not happy, I’m not happy.”

Residential and Commercial

The business is growing, with “90% of work currently residential”, though Devin welcomes more commercial contracts. Oklahoma’s Best Power Washing and Soft Washing Services has invested in powerful equipment and specific chemical treatments for proper pressure, reach, and exceptional cleaning results. From sidewalks to siding, no project is too far—literally. “We’ve traveled over three hours to clean a customer’s home. If it’s a job worth doing, we’ll be there.”

Complete Exterior Cleaning

Seasonal upkeep is also crucial. Devin recommends complete exterior cleaning at least once a year, especially during summer, to combat mold growth and debris buildup from storms. “It’s not just about looks. A clean home lasts longer.”

For hesitant homeowners, Devin offered this message: “Your home is likely your biggest investment. Keeping it clean is about protecting that investment. Don’t wait until there’s damage.”

Oklahoma’s Best Power Washing and Soft Washing Services offers free estimates and serves a wide area. They can be reached via phone, website, or social media. Whether it’s clearing gutters, restoring a roof, or simply giving a house a fresh face, Devin proves every day that passion, professionalism, and power washing make a perfect combination.
