LANGUAGE STUDIES

Language skills are increasingly in demand across the world in various industries with bilingual individuals experiencing:

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

• Share meals and practice language skills while living in the World Language Community in the Kade-Duesenberg German House and Cultural Center.

• Digitize and code a Renaissance French cookbook.

• Contribute your poetry or become a student editor for Letras, Valpo’s Spanish-language literary magazine.

• Meet with a native speaker for regular conversation in second-year courses.

• Present at Valpo’s undergraduate research conference.

MAJOR COMBINATIONS

The College of Engineering offers the Valpo International Engineering Program (VIEP) in France, Germany, and Spain:

• Unique program in which students combine an engineering major with a world language major or minor

• During a semester or year abroad, students take engineering courses and complete an internship

• Students gain multicultural experience and language proficiency along with technical engineering skills

The College of Business integrates language study through the certificate in business Spanish program.

The College of Arts and Sciences offers the opportunity to study the role of films and other media as artistic expressions and cultural forces through a minor in cinema and media studies that integrates world language film courses.
