Our first Club day of the season is upon us this weekend as all 6 of our teams will have home fixtures up at Kings Park.
Our Mens and Womens Premiership teams, the Knights, and the Reds all play against USRC Tigers. While the Maverick’s take on Kowloon and the Griffins will meet Discipline Services.
The Mens Prem will be looking to bag their first win of the season and the Womens Prem will be looking to make up for their defeat at the hands of Gai Wu last weekend. This will also be the Mavericks first game of the season in what has been a very long preseason build up for the men. Lots of new faces to look out for across all our community teams as the coaches efforts with our own Summer Recruitment Courses start to bear fruit.
The women ' s team were handed their first defat of the season, succumbing to a passionate Gai Wu side who proved to be a thorn for Valley that evening. With both teams starting the game strong, Gai Wu edge away at the scoreboard with a couple of early penalty kicks and finished with a try to seal the deal. With a decent amount of territory and possession, the women were not able to capitalise on this and turn it into points With some familiar faces not involved in the game, it gave the opportunity for new players to step up and new positional combinations to be flushed out. Onwards and upwards for the Women as they look to get back to their winning ways
A game lost by Valley rather than won by the opposition is probably an accurate description when summarising the Mens defeat at the hand of Hong Kong Scottish in the first of several Friday evening games planned for the season. Strong flashes of play by our forward pack was not enough for the men that evening as the rapid backline of Hong Kong Scottish proved to overcome Valley's defence Some fine tuning around decisions made at the set pieces and in open play is much needed our players are aware of this and will be making a turn around over the next few weeks

POSITION YEARS @ VALLEY
Lock/Flank 7 years
I wanted to try out a new sport straight out of college. So I got in touch with an old school friend, Deena and she introduced me to Valley Rugby! (Thanks Deena!)
Has to be a sloth! I’m more active at night and lazy during the day!
Start my day with a full English and jam out to some vibes!!
Tough question! I’ve had good mentors the past years in rugby. Shout out to both Chris Garvey and Bella Milo, nothing but love and support on and off field from the both of them!
I played with Rob Fogerty back at home in Brighton and he couldn’t speak more highly of the club and I had a call with Fatz whilst making my decision on what team to join and the culture and club ethos that he described sounded perfect to me and it hasn’t disappointed
I’ll have to say an orangutan for obvious reasons
Ideally it would be to wake up, have a coffee and a stretch then go for a walk along the harbour. However I’m currently teaching on Saturday mornings so it’s a bit more hectic than that
It would probably be a guy called Mike Ashford whilst at University, his attention to detail and drive to improve everyone was top class and he also helped me develop and mature as a person off the pitch too!
Valley RFC are sad to say farewell to Doug Fluker, Mens Premiership Team Manager and his family, who head back to NZ next week
After a season at Gai Wu, Valley gained an extremely reliable player for their Premiership team in 2014 season. His fearless defence and natural ability to attack ensured him a regular spot on the team. His efforts supported the Prems achieving a few Championship wins during his playing days
After finishing playing, Dougy confidently gave refereeing a crack under the tutelage of his idol, Patrick Kwok The whistle was not for Doug, but quickly he took up the role of the Prems manager where he has excelled. He has been exemplary in his role, and whoever takes over has some big boots to fill.
Doug absence will be felt on many levels at Valley The players and coaches will miss his cool, calm and collected attitude as well as his selfless generosity to help you regardless of the situation
We wish the Fluker clan; Doug, Chanelle, Talia and Conner all the best back in NZ.
We look forward to welcoming them back whenever the time may be.
