Half way through the season for all our teams as the Valley train keeps rolling on in 2024 as we head into the Christmas break
Our Premiership sides continue staking their claims in their leagues, with our Men’s team bagging a mix of W’s and L’s and find themselves sitting 4th in the table with 3 points separating 2nd and 3rd place A win today will catapult the team to 2nd place
Our Women’s team maintain their dominance and sit top of the table, but face an ever chasing HKFC side who are hot on their heels and keen to avenge their loss against us last month.
Our community teams have also seen success come their way with the Reds 1 win away from winning the Womens Championship league and our Golds sitting 4th of the table. The Valley Mavericks sit at 3rd place on the table while the Valley Maijais maintain their 4th place in Community League 1
With maintaining current places and banking more wins - all teams so far find themselves in the Grand Championship contentions We will look to carry over this momentum into the second half of the season
13:30 Societe Generale Valley RFC Mens Prem v HKFC Club
15:20 Societe Generale Valley RFC Knights v HKFC Dragons
16:40 Societe Generale Valley RFC Reds v Gai Wu Fawkes
18:15 Societe Generale Valley RFC Womens Prem v HKFC Ice
A concept coined last season in collaboration with Hong Kong Football Club, we are entering our second year of the “Racecourse Rumble” fixture
In what we hope to develop as an annual key fixture between two Happy Valley based derby teams, this year we host HKFC at our home pitch. The intention is to grow the fixture to eventually include our community teams as well as our youth and minis sides. to celebrate a big rugby day out in the Racecourse.
The two clubs have fiercely battled against each other over the past few decades and in the most recent decades have met each other in league and grand championship deciding games in both the Mens and Women’s Premiership With the HKFC Men’s showing their dominance in the men’s game and the Valley RFC Women’s showing their dominance in the women’s game
The three sides have met each other already this season, where the our Premiership men’s lost 32-5 with HKFC bagging quick turnover tries from simple errors made Our Valley Knights were also downed by the HKFC Dragons 22-29
Our Premiership women’s defeated their HKFC counterparts with a tightly contested 14-7 victory.
Today’s fixtures between the sides again will not disappoint the crowds watching!

Societe Generale Valley RFC Reds have the opportunity to be crowned HKCR Womens Championship League winners today as they take on Gai Wu in a top of the the table clash.
The team have won 9 out of 9 games this season, conceding only 10 points in the process. Led from the front by Lily Tsang, K Wong and Au Shuwan the team have gelled together a good mix of new and experienced players The team sits in between our Womens Premiership team and our Golds team and is a vital step on in our Womens Pathway at the Club
We spoke to coach KK Wong about all things Red and her thought so far this season.
KK - the Valley Red's team have had a great season so far. What are your thoughts about all this?
Yes it has been really good, I think the outcome we have at the moment all started a couple of seasons before when we had a good mix of our core experienced players, playing alongside our younger stars.
It is also a good reflection on how Valley RFC are keen and willing to build a pathway of development and provide more opportunities for the younger players to come through Even our core players now in the team, joined us from the first time they started rugby
This season’s team have been so focused and have worked so hard for the season - I have been really proud of them The team has a really good mixture of upcoming stars and experience - this has built the excellent outcome we now have
This season, we also brought in a new backs coach So Jai, how has this addition to the coaching team been?
So Jai is a highly experienced player from Hong Kong rugby, with his national playing and coaching experience, our girls are really learning lot of new skill and game knowledge from him It is really great to have him part of our team this year and his impact on the players is showing on the pitch.
What are the long term goals for the Valley Reds?
This is the 50th season for Valley RFC and the 13th season since we have the Valley Reds team, for this season we are targeting both the league and Grand Championship trophy, something we have not achieved before
Our longer term goal is to develop more Hong Kong based players through our pathway of the Golds and Reds team Some player may go on to play in the Premiership team, where as some players remain comfortable to play community rugby. As long as we continue offering both opportunities, we will have a successful program.
Most importantly it would be to keep passing on our Valley Family spirit to the next generation To let them know we are not just teammates, but we are a Family .
