AS WE PLAN AHEAD FOR 2024 & REFLECT ON THE LAST FEW YEARS, WE KEEP REPEATING ONE WORD:
With everything going on in the world, some of us have found it. Many of us struggled, and lost concentration.
We know you had to be focused… on your businesses… on your families.
And, our commitment to you is that we have been, and will continue to be focused.
On supporting and promoting you, our members, to encourage your hospitality, and visitation.
On tourism and its continued positive impact on Montgomery County, PA.
On bringing large-scale events here from sports to arts and culture.
On being the absolute best destination marketing organization not just for Montco, but to standout in the region.
Why is focus so important?
This is what that concentrating meant for the tourism industry in Montco in 2022:
Visitor spending generated $1.6 billion in positive economic impact in 2022 – that’s a 14.4% increase and within 98.9% of 2019 levels… That’s, right, we’re 1.1% away from pre-pandemic numbers!
One of the leaders for growth in visitor spending was lodging.
Here are some other successes to spotlight:
Montco’s family of hotels is now up to 83 with another new property that opened 2023.
The VFTCB continued to target smaller corporate events to help build back weekday business.
Not only did the Valley Forge Sports team host the largest individual event to date this year, but they also announced an even bigger event coming in 2024 – YMCA Gymnastics Nationals!
Our third annual Crave Montco Month featured more than 200 sign-ups with our first dining passport with Bandwango and our marketing campaign generated more than half a million impressions.
Montgomery County, PA grew the third annual Arts Montco Week & second annual Jazz Fest to highlight Women in Jazz!
The 17th annual Valley Forge Revolutionary 5-Mile Run raised a record $70,000 for the park to enhance the visitor experience.
Our marketing team completed several new campaigns, including “FREE-k Out” in Montgomery County, which generated more than 35 million impressions.
There were more than 1,100 stories (no. 1 in the region!) about Montgomery County reaching more than 2.4 billion people (no. 1 in the region!) – a $22 million value, both records for the organization.
The VFTCB’s social media following grew to more than 210,000 and generated 2.1 million video views, including our latest profile on Instagram’s brand-new Threads.
Now, we know all of that focus can cause Montco to not only be an anchor and a cornerstone, but also the center of attention.
There are a lot of eyes on Montco, and sometimes being the hub can cause distractions. But, we’re determined to use data to make decisions to fill our hotel rooms to keep tourism as a key driver for Montgomery County’s economy.
We’re focused on inspiring visitors to travel to, and fall in love with, Montco. On creating memorable experiences. On our roots, and our future.
So, we challenge you to join us in focusing on what matters. Focus on greatness. Focus on Montco.
Mike Bowman President & CEO Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board
THE VALLEY FORGE TOURISM & CONVENTION BOARD (VFTCB) IS A PRIVATE, NON-PROFIT, MEMBERSHIP-BASED SALES & MARKETING ORGANIZATION THAT ACTIVELY PROMOTES THE VALLEY FORGE AREA AND MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA AS A CONVENTION SITE AND LEISURE VISITOR DESTINATION BY PROMOTING PATRONAGE OF ITS MEMBER HOTELS, RESTAURANTS, ATTRACTIONS, & SERVICES.
The VFTCB is on a mission to increase economic prosperity by promoting Montgomery County’s natural, cultural, and historic assets to raise visibility as a tourism destination for leisure and convention markets. These efforts are meant to drive revenue to our member and partner businesses. The sales & marketing teams work together to fill the more than 9,400 hotel rooms in the county by targeting meeting, sports, tourism, and leisure business, sending the sales team to conferences and conventions throughout the country & across the globe, and strategically marketing to target audiences through print, radio, TV, and social media campaigns.
The Board’s funding comes from a combination of a tax imposed on visitors occupying the county’s hotel rooms and membership dues. We look forward to continuing to work together and to welcoming many more new members and partners in the years to come.
INSPIRING THE WORLD TO FALL IN LOVE WITH MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA. A MUST-EXPERIENCE DESTINATION, ROOTED IN THE PAST & LEADING THE FUTURE.
We think big. We dream and visualize what we can achieve on an audacious scale, without limits. We’re positive, creative, and see opportunity in the big picture.
We treat all people with respect. We’re open-minded and listen to every perspective –even if we don’t agree – so that we may forge ahead together.
It takes a team working as one to win. We are one team with ambitious goals.
We are committed to quality over quantity. Everything that leaves this office represents our team, our organization, and our county.
Connecting with others emotionally is key to inspiring others to travel to Montgomery County. We go above and beyond, focus on the details, and provide first-class service to our hotel partners, our members, and our visitors for a memorable experience.
We believe in leading from passion, not position, to drive us. To motivate us. To make work a blast.
We learn and grow. We believe it is important for staff to continuously educate themselves and develop, both inside these walls, and beyond them. We use mistakes as lessons, and we brainstorm ideas.
THE KEY TO ANY CULTURE’S SUCCESS IS STRONG CORE VALUES, AND DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION (DEI) ARE EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO THE VALLEY FORGE TOURISM & CONVENTION BOARD (VFTCB).
As we encourage visitors to #MakeItMontco here in Montgomery County, PA, we also strive to make sure our organization is being inclusive, which begins by treating all people with respect and professionalism.
To best represent Montco, we vow to continue to develop an atmosphere that supports and embraces diversity, encourages understanding and acceptance of differences, and creates an equitable space where everyone feels welcome, safe, comfortable, and celebrated for who they are.
The VFTCB is committed to utilizing local, regional, and national resources, talents, strengths, and opportunities to meet this goal. Our employees are expected to listen with dignity and open minds to every perspective – even if we don’t agree – so that we may forge ahead together.
IT WAS AN OUTSTANDING YEAR FOR THE VALLEY FORGE TOURISM & CONVENTION BOARD, AS WE WERE RECOGNIZED WITH MAJOR AWARDS & ACCOLADES.

Here’s a look at the marketing campaigns we did to bring more visitors into Montgomery County and get them spending.
This fun, light-hearted campaign put families and the value proposition of Montgomery County at the forefront as it aimed to drive visitors to the county. “FREE-k Out” in Montgomery County was the message for marketing to leisure travelers. The campaign kicked off in April, just ahead of the busy summer travel season, in key drive markets. The media mix includes out-of-home advertising, digital display ads, social media ads, streaming, influencers, and more. The campaign was rooted in research that showed travelers were looking for budget-friendly options.
Aimed at driving visitation during a traditionally slow travel period in the region, the Date Night Montgomery County campaign targeted partners, individuals, and families with easy-to-plan romantic getaways and date ideas. The campaign ran for the entire month of February, targeting regional consumers through digital, social media, and audio advertising. Accompanying the media plan was an email marketing campaign, including a giveaway, plus new web content.
For a third year, Crave Montco Month offered visitors and locals an exciting opportunity to experience the county’s diverse dining scene. During the month-long initiative, which supports local restaurants, breweries, wineries, and distilleries, we used advertising, web & social media content, and public relations opportunities to get more people to dine out. New this year, diners were encouraged to download the Crave Montco Month Passport for deals.
This campaign encourages visitors to make the most of the holiday season in Montgomery County, with a strong emphasis on shopping. Research shows that Montco is a major shopping destination for leisure travelers during the months of November and December. Marketing efforts targeted the drive market with a new commercial, advertising, and new social media content.
This year, we expanded our marketing campaign for meetings as part of our ongoing effort to encourage planners to book their events in Montgomery County. With more than 40 placements and partnerships with leading industry publications, our ads highlighted all Montco has to offer. More than 7 million impressions were generated.

The VFTCB promotes Montgomery County as a premier arts and culture destination to increase awareness of and visitation to the area’s 200+ arts and culture venues.
2023 marked the third year of Arts Montco Week to celebrate the county’s arts and culture venues. The event was held from September 20 to October 1. These venues normally contribute $100 million in positive economic impact yearly. To celebrate and raise awareness of Arts Montco week, the team launched a campaign targeting local and regional visitors that ran across digital, out-of-home, and other media.
The 2nd Annual Montco Jazz Fest was held in September with the theme of “Women in Jazz.” The festival featured female artists performing at more than a dozen venues and more than 20 events.
For the third time, Cirque du Soleil chose to visit Montco, this time, with the North American premiere of BAZZAR. Held at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center Fairgrounds in September and October, the show, which featured acrobats, dancers, and musicians, hosted thousands of people during its run.
Two new mural installations were painted at the Philadelphia Premium Outlets. The first mural focuses on Montgomery County’s iconic landmarks, including Valley Forge National Historical Park. The second mural focuses on the county’s many family-friendly attractions, including the Elmwood Park Zoo. Both were painted by Carrie Kingsbury, a Pottstown resident, and owner of Promiseland Murals. Two new walls were painted at the King of Prussia Mall by Jeantrix and Jess the Artist.
In 2023, we unveiled a new look for our publications.
These publications, which are available in print and digitally, are popular resources for planning a visit to Montgomery County.
In total, more than 200,000 copies are distributed yearly. This year, we also finished the fifth and final volume of Patriot Tales, our historyinspired comic book.
The annual Freedom from Hunger food drive supports the community that we diligently promote by raising money for the MontCo Anti-Hunger Network (MAHN).
MAHN provides resources to almost 70 free meal providers that feed those who are food insecure in Montgomery County.
Our first-ever spring drive in March raised $2,600, the equivalent of 32,000 pounds of food. This drive helped MAHN’s network recover after exhausting its holiday donations and as they prepared for summer, when kids may not receive free and reduced meals in school.
A second drive was held in September, with the goal of raising $5,000 and 60,000 pounds of food, for a total of 90,000+ pounds for the year. During a special community event, our team, along with the help of Philadelphia Eagles’ cornerback Darius Slay, served food at Cecil and Grace Bean’s Soup Kitchen in Norristown.
Since the drive started in 2015,

In 2022, 1.6 million park visitors spent an estimated $23.4 million in local gateway regions while visiting Valley Forge National Historical Park.
These expenditures supported a total of 357 jobs, $14.3 million in labor income, $22.3 million in value added, and $38.5 million in economic output in local gateway economies surrounding Valley Forge National Historical Park.
One way we continue to elevate the visitor experience is through our visitor experience passes. We are also able to learn more about our visitors – who they are, where they’re from, and what they’re enjoying while here.
Created to celebrate history in Montgomery County, the Montco History Pass takes users on a journey through 17 historical sites. These sites include historical homes, parks, and museums.
The Montco Makers Passport is designed to drive more visitors to the county’s breweries, wineries, and distilleries. The best part? Users can check-in during their visit for a chance to win great prizes.

Proceeds also benefit “Once Upon a Nation” storyteller programming and upkeep on Sullivan’s Bridge.
In anticipation of a surge in both national and international visitors for the United States’ 250th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of Valley Forge National Historical Park becoming a National Park in 2026, we’re upgrading the visitor experience at the Montgomery County Visitor Center. We will introduce new tools and technology to assist visitors in navigating our destination seamlessly.
