★ Edward “Ned” Hector was one of many Black Revolutionary War soldiers.
★ He was enslaved by the Potts family and worked in their iron furnaces before the war in the Valley Forge area.
★ After he was freed, he became part of Proctors 3rd Pennsylvania Artillery later to become The 4th Continental Artillery.
★ He served as a Bombardier and a Teamster at the Battle of Brandywine and Germantown.
★ He was considered a hero at the Battle of Brandywine for risking his life to save his wagon, horses, and supplies when he was ordered to abandon them.
★ The residents of Conshohocken, where he lived, regarded Ned so highly that 16 years after his death they named a street after him.
★ Ned would die on Jan. 3, 1834 at the age of 90 in Upper Marion, PA.

Noah Lewis has been doing presentations based on Ned Hector for over twenty years at schools, historical events, historical sites, and re-enactments.
