DIRECTOR’S NOTE Welcome to Summer Theatre 2026!

Summer Theatre is a joy because it combines a love of performing with the fun-loving spirit of summer camp. In just under three weeks, campers learned all the music, choreography, and staging for Frozen Jr.—a fantastic accomplishment. In addition to rehearsing, campers enjoyed classic camp activities that make summer programs so memorable: acting workshops, crafts, lawn games and noodle ball, bracelet making, team chants, daily devotions, and much more. Campers were challenged to be creative, express themselves, and take risks in a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment. Along the way, they built confidence, honed their theatre skills, and fostered a sense of community.

We are incredibly proud of all that these campers have accomplished and grateful to the staff and families who helped make it possible.

Enjoy the performance, and we look forward to seeing you this fall for our 2026–2027 season!

BIOGRAPHIES

Myra Kaelin Producer

A founding member of Valley Christian Theatre, Myra holds a Master of Arts in Theatre Education (University of Northern Colorado) and a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Dance (Santa Clara University).

Throughout her nearly twenty-five years as an educator, she has also worked extensively with various local community theatre companies both on and off the stage, including serving as President of the Board of Directors for South Valley Civic Theatre. Directing credits include Rock of Ages, Clue, Into the Woods, Twelfth Night, The Play That Goes Wrong, The Crucible, Mary Poppins, Hello, Dolly!, Steel Magnolias, You Can’t Take It With You, Guys & Dolls, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, The Producers, City of Angels, God’s Favorite, Harvey, and The Fantasticks, among others. During the 2020-2021 school year, she spearheaded and directed two fully produced and filmed online productions for VCS: Godspell, and Check Please. She would not be here today without the unflinching support of her husband, Michael, and her three beautiful children, Lucia, Oliver, and Ginger. Glory to God in all things!

Sophia proudly attended Valley Christian High School, and from there went on to attend Azusa Pacific University’s BFA for Acting Major. After hearing from the Lord it was time to move back to the Bay Area, Sophia transferred to San José State University, where she graduated with a B.A. in Theatre Arts, Magna Cum Laude. Sophia feels fulfilled and grateful for the opportunity to coach and support young actors. She loves guiding them in their artistic growth and teaching them how to glorify God with their gifts and talents.

Emily Rosa Choreographer

Emily Rosa is an alumna of Valley Christian Schools (2019) who pursued her love of dance and teaching at Dean College in Franklin, Massachusetts. She earned her B.A. in Dance in just three years, before moving to New York City to attend a pre-professional program at Broadway Dance Center. Emily began dancing at the age of two and has continued ever since. She has choreographed for various studios and taught at multiple institutions on both the East and West Coasts.

Her performance experience includes dance concerts, showcases, and theater productions in California, New York, and Massachusetts. She is currently auditioning and looks forward to expanding her performance career. She is truly ecstatic to be back on campus again, having most recently choreographed for the 2026 VCS Junior High Theatre production of Disney’s Dare to Dream JR. Breanna Bevis is a Valley Christian High School alumna and performed in numerous VCS Theatre productions throughout high school. She was also involved in the Conservatory vocal ensembles, where she developed her skill and love for music. She holds her B.A. in Vocal Performance from Azusa Pacific University. Breanna is thrilled to be back and sharing her love for music and theater with these spirited young performers. She thanks God for this opportunity to work with the students and see them grow in their skills.

VALLEY CHRISTIAN THEATRE STATEMENT Here at Valley Christian Theatre (VCT), we believe it is vital for our students to know they can be unapologetically Christian in the Arts; their artistic gifts are God-given, after all. Further, it is equally important to us that our students leave our program well-prepared to think and live like followers of Jesus in a complex world. This includes learning to use their own Christian perspective to address worldly themes and the fallen nature of humanity, much like they do in their other academic studies. Often, it is when we confront these very themes that we turn towards Christ, humbling ourselves as we examine our own convictions, and seek wisdom; this is the gritty work that allows us to strengthen our faith (James 1:5-7).

Every VCT production, K-12, goes through a vetting process with several sets of theatrically experienced eyes on scripts before they are decided upon. We examine the scripts closely and decide as a team whether a show is a good choice for the Valley Christian Schools (VCS) stage. It is an extensive and time-consuming process, and one we do not take lightly. Invariably, we come across characters and situations that challenge our very human (and Christian) sensibilities. Please keep in mind that VCS does not condone these situations, characters, or lifestyles; rather, what you see on stage is a reflection of the reality of our modern world and culture. It is in these moments that we pause, humble ourselves, and begin to look for clues of justice and redemption within the story.

While not always overt, they nearly always exist. And sometimes, bringing a smile to your face or a moment of joy to your heart is the redemptive moment (Isaiah 61:3).

As you enjoy tonight’s performance, if at any moment you find yourself triggered, we encourage you to pause, reflect, seek wisdom, and look for justice and redemption.

If you have questions, strong thoughts, or feelings you wish to express, please, reach out to us—we want to engage in a healthy, respectful, and godly dialogue with you. It is our true desire to give your students artistic opportunities that allow the light of Christ to shine through them so that they may ultimately glorify God through their art “at home and in their communities”—to “Do it heartily unto the Lord.” We strive to ensure that the Valley Christian Theatre program embodies the VCS mission in all that we do.
