• Tomatoes originated in Peru. The name comes from the Aztec “xitomatl,” which means “plump thing with a navel.” Some 200 years ago tomatoes were thought by many to be poisonous in areas outside of Peru, when it was seen that animals eating the vines and leaves became sick and often died. While it’s true that all parts of the tomato plant are indeed poisonous, the fruit itself is perfectly safe. With the invention of pizza in Naples around 1880, those fears were forgotten and the tomato became widely popular in Europe. Today Americans consume about 30 pounds of tomatoes per person, per year.

Over half of that is in the form of processed tomato products such as ketchup and tomato sauce. Salsa recently outpaced ketchup in sales.

The accident cost them over $60,000, nearly half of the available budget. It may have been worth the cost, because in spite of being an excetionally cheesy B-rated film, it did at least feature a fairly spectacular helicopter crash.

• Artichokes are one of the oldest foods known to humans, originating in the Mediterranean region.

Their name likely comes from the Arabic phrase meaning “arched stump.” Artichokes are actually the flower buds of a plant related to sunflowers.

The first official California Artichoke Queen in 1947 happened to be Marilyn Monroe.

• Spanish explorers looked at pineapples and thought they looked like pinecones, and for lack of another, the name stuck.

• When Christian missionaries first encountered a new plant in South America, they looked at the flower and saw Christ’s crown of thorns inside it, so they named it the passion fruit.

• Avocados, originally grown in Central and South America, were called by the Spanish word “ahuacatl” meaning “testicle” because of the shape of the fruit.

The bulk of my time is devoted to helping aggressive dogs and their owners. Their stories tend to begin something like this: My dog is wonderful 99.9 percent of the time, but he bites. The behavior is getting worse, and I don’t know what to do. I love my dog very much.

The following letter exemplifies this dilemma:

“We adopted a trained hunting dog two years ago. I love this dog more than anything; however, he has bitten us on multiple occasions and recently bit my face rather viciously. I cannot trust him.

“The issue isn’t guarding or a lack of discipline or attention. Every day, I walk him, play with him, give him affection, feed him, have him do tricks and have him listen to me when I tell him to do things. He is sweet, affectionate and well-behaved 98 percent of the time (not an excuse, just explaining his general temperament).

“I think whatever issues he has are deeprooted psychological ones. I am not sure what to do, but we cannot have a dog that hurts my husband or me. Please help.” ***

Here’s what you can do at this point in the game:

-- Find a more experienced owner for the dog.

-- Become a more experienced owner yourself with the help of a professional trainer who specializes in canine aggression.

-- Limit the dog’s exposure.

Simple as that. Those are your options.

A lot can be done to help an aggressive dog “get over it.” And the sooner you recognize and accept the problem the better for all involved, especially the dog.

The problem is that people do not want to accept. They either do not recognize the red flags their dog is waving, or they choose to ignore them.

We have enclosed a photo of a mahogany wood chair that is decorated with unique car vings. We believe it is the face of the North Wind, and it has never been refinished. It originally belonged to my father-inlaw’s grandmother.

We have been wondering if it has any value.

Wood chairs like yours were often called grotesques. The design appealed to the Victorians who have a penchant for unusual or bizarre carvings.

There was an abundance of the chairs decorated with the carvings of the North Wind. Many other chairs depicted scenes of lions, dogs, pubs and griffons. Fables, literature, music and paintings were Chair decorated with carvings of the the sources North Wind. of inspiration.

Coordinating the swing to be balanced, rhythmic, and effortless will be a constant battle for any golfer over their career. It doesn’t take long to lose the swing’s internal timing, especially when playing competitively or in adverse conditions (under pressure). Typically, the body movements get rushed and the arms don’t have time to make their normal, full movements. Your swing can be said to be “out of sync”.

One of the best reminders of rhythm and timing is a drill requiring the swing of two separate clubs in each hand. Typically players will use mid irons to perform this drill. Trying to slowly swing two clubs at once will force your arms and body to take a little extra time and coordination so the clubs don’t crash along the way. As you gain confidence with this drill, try swinging them faster until you’re at 60-75% of normal effort or speed. Try hitting balls directly afterward while performing a similar effort level, rhythm, and balance.
