Q: When is the new “Wonder Woman” movie coming out? Will it be in theaters or just pay-per-view at home? I really want to see it on the big screen. I miss going to the movies. -- Y.G.

A: Before he became an Oscar-winning film director (“A Beautiful Mind”), Ron Howard was an actor. I remember him as teenager Richie Cunningham on the sitcom “Happy Days,” but before that he was one of Hollywood’s most employable child actors and went by the name of Ronny Howard.

Ronny was just 8 years old when he sang a cute but off-key rendition of “Gary, Indiana” in “The Music Man” (1962). He’d started playing little Opie Taylor on “The Andy Griffith Show” in 1960 and continued until 1968. The youthful-looking Howard played Richie Cunningham on “Happy Days” from age 20 to 30.

There are some things we just don’t want to hear: The disease is incurable. The relationship is over. The economy won’t rebound anytime soon.

The dog is aggressive is a big one in my business.

A firefighter back east called last week with a real head-scratcher. He has a 3-year-old Cane Corso, which is an intelligent and powerful Italian mastiff breed. He discovered the dog in an abandoned warehouse a couple of years ago and decided to give it a home. When he relocated eight months ago, the dog suddenly took to growling. And, no, the story doesn’t end at that.

The fireman took his Cane Corso to the dog wash in his new hometown, where a woman oohed and aahed and asked for permission to pet him. Initially the man kept her at arm’s length, explaining it really wasn’t safe. But she persisted and asked him why he had the dog in a public place if it wasn’t safe.

Logical question.

The story ends with this: The man acquiesced, and the dog bit the woman.

If you follow this column regularly, you aren’t surprised. It happens all the time. People let love cloud their sanity: women go back for beating after beating; men live with belittlement and emasculation; dog owners tolerate the snarling, snapping, biting objects of their affection.

I asked the firefighter, “Is the dog trained?”

“Yes, I’m a trainer.”

“I thought you were a firefighter.”

“Yeah, but I’ve had a couple of dogs, and I trained them, no problem.”

These days, it seems everyone’s a critic, everyone’s an economist and everyone’s a dog trainer. But in reality, most of us are amateur experts in almost everything. Most people don’t know how to cure cancer, the economy or canine aggression -- much less all three.

What’s the difference between an expert and an amateur?

got a letter from the SSA telling him he was overpaid and he wanted me to intervene for him. There is simply nothing I can do to help these people other than to tell them to contact someone at the SSA. I’m a retired SSA employee sitting alone

in my basement writing a column and answering general questions that people have about Social Security. I don’t have any kind of access to SSA records or files. And I’ve been retired for 15 years now, so all the people I used to know at the SSA are also retired. I no longer have any kind of “in” with the agency. I just can’t call up anyone at the SSA and say, “Fix this” or, “Check into this for me.” I’m sorry.

As I said, I’m just an old goat sitting in

my basement with an old computer. On the other hand, the SSA has 62,000 employees and 1,300 field offices and a national 800 number and a really superduper website. I’d say you have a 62,000 to 1 better chance of getting your Social Security issue resolved by dealing directly with the SSA. Having said all of that, there are still hun dreds and hundreds of Social Security-related questions I can answer for people -- as long as they are of a general nature and don’t involve the need to check SSA records. Here are some examples.

If you should die intestate (without a will), your estate will automatically be settled in accordance with state law, and chances are good that what the state decides won't be what you would have wanted. Details vary by state, but assets typically are distributed using a hierarchy of survivors. Assets go first to a spouse, then to children, then your siblings, and so forth down the familial line.

You also need to be aware that certain accounts take precedence over a will. If you jointly own a home or a bank account, for example, the house, and the funds in the account will automatically go to the joint holder, even if your will directs otherwise. On the other hand, retirement accounts and life insurance policies are distributed to the beneficiaries you have designated, so it is important to keep them up to date in accordance with your wishes.

A: Mason’s Patent Ironstone China made your

dish. They were located in Staffordshire, England from 1813 to the present. “Bow Bells” is the name of the pattern and it was also produced in brown. Your dish was made around 1920. Mason’s continues to produce the pattern, but uses a different mark that identifies the period of manufacture.

Your circa 1920 dish would probably be worth $50 to $75.

Q: I have enclosed a photo of the mark seen

on the back of an oval dish that I have. I picked the dish up at a rummage sale and know nothing about it. The mark is a little blurr y so just to be clear, I will have to tell you what is included below the crown. • It took them over a month to complete, but Bethel, Maine residents succeeded in creating the world’s tallest snowman in February, 2008, reaching a height of 122 ft., 1 in., just a few feet shorter than the Statue of Liberty.

Lag putting is an essential part of the game that can either add or subtract strokes from your score each round. Controlling the speed on long putts can be more important than how accurate your read or aim of the putt had been. Hitting the first putt inside a makeable range should be the goal for most golfers when the putt is outside thirty feet.

One of the common mistakes seen in the long putting game is a belief that that backstroke is short or the same length for all putts. This restricted backstroke leads to an attempt to overly “accelerate” the putterhead through impact to create proper speed. This can be a very inconsistent and difficult way to control long putts.

By creating a more pendulum like swinging of the putter, speed is created easier through momentum and keeping a brisk tempo to each putt.
