DEAR DR. ROACH: I took a sleep study and slept on my back all night because I was wired up and couldn’t sleep on my side.

After a couple of hours, I was told that I have moderate sleep apnea. I snore when I’m on my back, but not when I’m on my side. Do you think I really have sleep apnea? -- T.M.

Do Pneumonia Vaccines Protect Seniors from Coronavirus?

DEAR SAVVY SENIOR: Do vaccines against pneumonia that are currently offered provide seniors any protection against coronavirus? I’ve generally been lax about getting vaccinated, but this pandemic has me thinking I should probably do this.

Flu vaccine:

While annual flu shots are recommended each fall to everyone, they are more important for older adults because seniors have a much greater risk of developing dangerous flu complications. According to the CDC, last year up to 647,000 people were hospitalized and 61,200 died because of the flu – most of whom were age 65 and older.

To improve your chances of escaping the seasonal flu, consider a vaccine this September or October specifically designed for people 65 and older. The Fluzone High Dose or FLUAD are the two options that provide extra protection beyond what a standard flu shot offers. And all flu shots are covered under Medicare Part B.

And I’m not coming at my dislike for the pandemic for any of the normal reasons: the social distancing, the masks, the confusing signals from our governors, etc. etc. What really makes me dislike the disease is that folks must be getting tired of watching “Tiger King” and “Ozark” and other streaming options and are instead thinking up Social Security questions to send me. Lately, I’ve been getting about 50 emails every day. And yesterday, you helped me break a record. I got 122 emails from my readers! In just one day!

Oh, I guess I shouldn’t complain. I mean, how many games of Scrabble can I play with my wife before we really get on each other’s nerves?
