This was named the Kuiper belt, a thick band of asteroids composed of fragments left over after the planets coalesced. Before You Sign Up for Senior Discounts We all want to save a dollar every place we can. Discounts aimed at seniors are a good way to get our attention, but now and then it’s just not a good idea to sign up.

For example, if you’re low income, Amazon Prime offers a reduced-price membership.

With Prime you get free shipping, access to movies and music, and more. Your membership is only $5.95 per month -- after you furnish an image of your Social Security, Medicaid (not Medicare), TANF or SNAP card. You’ll need to renew this every year to keep getting the discount to ensure you’re still on the program. You can stay on this reduced rate for four years.

The dilemma is that you’re providing your personal information -- Medicaid number, Social Security number and so on -- to people you don’t know. Where does that information end up? If you cancel your membership, is that information destroyed?

Reduced prescription costs are available at certain drugstore chains, but generally on a limited basis, perhaps one day per month. One chain will offer to let you link a new account with them to your existing AARP membership. With another one, should you prefer not to give them your email address, they’re more than happy to take your name and phone number instead.

Most Common Social Security Questions I get hundreds of emails each week from my readers. I try to answer them all, but I probably answer many of the same questions over and over again! I’ll include those common questions in today’s column. My answers are going to be short and to the point, just so I can squeeze in as many questions as I can in the limited space I have.

Q: I’m 62. My husband is 67 and get-

ting Social Security. Can I file for spousal benefits on his record and save my own until I’m 70?

A:

No, you can’t do that. You always must file for your own benefits first. Only after you do that can you look to your husband’s record to see if you can get any additional spousal benefits.

Q: I am 60 and not working. My husband recently died. Can I file for widow’s benefits now and save my own until I am 70?

A: Yes, you can do that. A widow does not have the same restrictions that apply to a spouse with a living husband (as explained in the first Q and A.). You can file for widow’s benefits now, and then switch to 100% of your own at full retirement age or wait until 70 and get about 130%.

A: It will be based on your age 70 rate.

And just to clarify a little further, a benefit paid to a spouse whose husband is still alive is based on his full retirement age rate. But as I just said, a widow’s benefit is based on the age 70 rate (assuming the husband waited until 70 to claim his benefits).

Reverse Painted Lamp Made in Early 1900s Q: Enclosed is a photo of an electric lamp that belonged to my husband’s parents.

It stands approximately 14 inches tall, has a reverse-painted, dome-shaped, glass shade and a metal base. There is no manufacturer’s mark, and it is in excellent condition.

I hope you can give me more information on our lamp.

A: Your lamp was made in the first quarter of the 20th century. There were many lamp manufacturers who made similar lamps and didn’t mark them. The base is pot metal with a bronze finish.

Your lamp would probably be worth $200 to $400.

This mark is on the bottom of a porcelain teapot that I have. Written in the mark are the words “Hand Painted -- Reg. U.S. Pat. Off. -- 911” and a blue crown. The teapot has a white, swirled, raised design and is decorated with small purple violets and green leaves.

There is gold trim on the handle, spout and finial. It is in perfect condition.

What can you tell me about my teapot?

There was a plethora of matching pieces.

Many amateurs may struggle hitting high, soft wedge shots around the green due to improper concept. Severely opening the clubface, using a lot of “wrist action” or making a big, aggressive swing are all poor ways for most golfers to play a high lofted shot.

The backstroke hides one of the tour players’ top secrets in that they use the wrists, forearms, and set-up to create a “Toe Up” position with the clubhead. By minimizing the lean of the club at address, the clubface can rotate to a toe up position much easier with the hands and arms.

Still, the right arm must gently fold as the left arm makes an active rotation. Coupled with the left wrist staying bent (or cupped) as the wrist hinges, the clubhead can rotate away from the ball. This position can be checked when the clubhead is waist to shoulder high in the backstroke. Think “Toe Up” or vertically align the leading edge.

Excessive leaning of the club at address, closing in the clubface, or using the left wrist in a “knuckles down” manner in the backstroke will all tend to make the clubface appear closed in this same area.
