When it comes to a modeling career, looks are everything. When it comes to a dog, personality is everything.

Getting a dog is like getting married. You don’t date a dog -- get together once or twice a week for a few months until you decide to take it to the next level. You don’t break up with a dog, telling him it’s not him, it’s you. A dog is -- hopefully -- the only relationship where you invite your special friend back to your place on the first date, and he or she never leaves.

In light of the uniqueness of the relationship, it’s a good idea to know what you’re looking for and how to find it.

But we’re talking about dogs, right? How do you know what a dog’s personality is like before you even bring him home?

Believer it or not, it’s possible.

There are five simple tests virtually anyone can administer to get a pretty good feel for a dog’s personality. These tests measure a dog’s reaction to the following:

--your presence

--your voice

--the movement of your hand near his head and face

--the sound of foreign objects (e.g., car keys tossed to the ground)

--your touch (via the application of varying degrees of pressure to different parts of the body, including and especially sensitive parts of the body such as the paws, tail, back and hips, to determine pain tolerance.)

These are simple tests, but they reveal a lot.

A dog who reacts to your presence by jumping all over you is a very different dog from the one who saunters up to you in his own good time. A dog who shies away or ducks as your hand approaches his face requires a different approach from a dog who views the presence of your hand as a game. A dog with a low tolerance for pain warrants more careful and sensitive play and handling than a dog with very high pain tolerance.

The intentional sinking of this British ocean liner carrying more than 1,200 innocent civilian passengers greatly influenced America's ultimate involvement in World War I, as you will see.

• The RMS Lusitania’s maiden voyage was September 7, 1907, and like the Titanic she was the world’s largest passenger ship at the time. The ship was designed by Cunard Line architects and built by a Scottish shipbuilding company. The vessel took her name from the ancient Roman province of Lusitania, which was modern-day Portugal and part of western Spain.

The smallest stands about 4 inches, and the tallest is 12 inches, and they are in mint condition. They are all art deco style and wearing long, fitted gowns. They are ver y graceful. Most are blonde, but a few have dark hair. They are wearing shoes that match their gowns.

The factory was founded by Christop Hertwig and Benjamin Beyermann and was located in Katzhütte, Thuringia, Germany, from 1864 to 1945. By 1890, they employed 300 workers, plus another 600 who worked from home.

Hertwig and Co. produced figurines in the shapes of animals, dolls and bathing beauties. In the last half of the 20th century, their art deco dancing figurines were eagerly sought after by collectors.

Your figurines were made around the 1920s to the 1930s and can range in value from $50 to several hundred dollars, depending upon condition and the interest of buyers.

Irish poet and playwright Oscar Wilde wrote “The Ballad of Reading Gaol.” Wilde was imprisoned to hard labor for “gross indecency” from 1895 to 1897. He began serving his sentence at New Gate, London, England, and later was transferred to the prison at Reading Gaol in Reading, Berkshire, England.

“The Ballad of Reading Gaol” was a poem he wrote after his release from prison in 1897. Wilde chronicled the harsh prison life and the hanging of fellow prisoner Charles Thomas Wooldridge.

Grosset and Dunlap reprinted illustrated classics from 1935 to the 1940s. The series was published in black cloth with gold stamping and a raised ivory cameo in the center of the covers. It was affordable.

Wilde was born in Dublin in 1854 and died in Paris in 1900. “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” “The Importance of Being Earnest” and “Salome” are a few of his famous works. Cameo Classics books usually include slipcases.

Picture the Arc

It can be quite difficult to make breaking putts where you have to aim more than a foot to the left or the right of the hole. It’s partly a guess on the line to take and then how hard to hit it on that intention. While many golfers will say that speed is everything, you’ll need a proper mix of line and speed to make those putts.

When practicing larger breaking putts, try laying down a half dozen balls in a pattern illustrated below. Start with the actual ball to be hit, but then place balls progressively from the hole backwards. You’ll focus on how the ball enters the hole, how much it may curve at the end of the putt, and visualize how the entire putt would look before you hit it. This illustration will give you a better understanding of line and speed that you need to guess on for that putt. There is no perfect combination, but keep in mind “higher and softer” usually results in less three putts from short range.
