Message from the Administration

Dear partners,

This first newsletter aims to present and share the activities that we jointly developed in the first quarter of the year and what made us take another step towards excellence.

We continue to focus on what is most important to us, the qualification of our employees, sustainability and the commitment to social and economic development.

We would like to thank each member of our team, as well as our partners, for their daily work and dedication to the development of our companies.

We hope to continue to rely on your trust.

Our Messages

Message from Quality

Certifications in quality and food safety are increasingly part of the day-to-day life of the food industry. The IFS certification for example, being a highly regarded and globally recognised benchmark, has highly demanding requirements in terms of infrastructures, procedures and quality of service provided. The increased rigour in production processes promotes a solid culture of quality and food safety, which is inevitably reflected in a positive way in the image that the market receives from the company.

Message from Health and Safety at Work

In 2022, Valgrupo began to set up an internal Occupational Health and Safety team, which currently provides support to the several companies in the Group, so we are using the first newsletter to introduce this

The main purpose of this department is to promote workers health and safety, in order to prevent the occurrence of accidents at work and the emergence of occupational diseases, however, we cannot work alone! To achieve success, the teamwork of ALL Valgrupo employees is essential.

TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER!

Training Plan 2023

Valgrupo continues to invest in the qualification of its employees, having developed in the first quarter of 2023 several training actions, internal and external, in different training areas, according to the survey of the training needs identified, to the Group's employees.

We can highlight the training actions in animal welfare, with a total of 81 hours taught, covering workers of poultry farms and the technicians and workers responsible for animal welfare in slaughterhouses and pens. A training session on "Driving and Operating Tractors Safely", lasting 50 hours, was held for employees that operate tractors. There were also two training courses in Excel - beginner and advanced - lasting 75 hours, covering about 35 employees. We ended the quarter with the completion of 3 actions, in the behavioural area "Leadership, management and motivation of teams" and "Conflict management", with a duration of 75H, which covered about 49 employees.

The Training Plan for 2023 includes several training areas, both internal and exter nal, which will take place at the premises of the different Group companies and will cover a universe of 1300 employees. To this end, some partnerships were esta blished with local and national training entities, which will support us in the execu tion of the training plan.

It is with great pride that we will continue to tread the path towards the qualification of our employees!

About Sustainability

Photovoltaic Panels

Photovoltaic panels are devices used to convert solar energy into electrical energy. This type of technology produces clean energy, only using the sun's energy, which is a non-polluting and environmentally friendly energy source.

At Valsabor, the solar installation occupies practically the entire roof, in an area of approximately 5000 m2, which allows the company to achieve a high autonomy in its electricity consumption. This investment avoids the annual emission of 700tCO which significantly reduces the company's environmental footprint.

At Nutriaves, there are 1116 photovoltaic modules and an installed power of 496,62 kWp, this photovoltaic plant will avoid around 330tCO2, a number equiva lent to more than 2350 planted trees, allowing the company to reach an energetic autonomy of 42%, thus becoming even more competitive in the market.

We are proud to continue developing photovoltaic solutions for the group companies!

Sustainable Tip

About Farms

Animal Welfare

In the current scenario of animal production, two important aspects in its future development stand out, the first concerns the recent European and world crises, which led to the scarcity of many products and exponential increase in production factors. The second is the need for a new vision on animal production.

Welfare is included in the second point where we propose to change animal production with a vision on food safety, environmental sustainability and economic growth, because only then are we able to sustain long-term growth for animal production and agribusiness as a whole.

Sustainable meat production in the world, is the subject of many discussions, mainly regarding animal welfare standards. Europe is pioneer in the world, having the most advanced laws and regulations in force, worldwide, and consumers have been demanding more and more care with animal health and welfare, demanding more and more attention from producers and industry to this point.

The consumer's demands are conveyed by the Large Supermarkets, which are their main representatives, demanding that in addition to compliance with the European norms, we must go beyond the laws on Animal Welfare, presenting evidence to the final consumer.

As one of the main producers of animal protein in Portugal, and one of the largest in Europe, Valgroup, within the enormous responsibility it has, decided to move forward with the application of two production and certification programs in Animal Welfare, the Welfarequality.net protocol and the FILPORC Animal Welfare Certification, having applied both programs in all of its pig production.

As such Valgrupo has decided to make a double effort, in improving the animal welfare of its pigs, with a special focus on the training of our employees, because exacerbating the importance of the welfare of our animals, and alerting everyone to the critical points of animal welfare is one of the main objectives of these programmes.

Valgrupo's objective is to offer national consumers and external markets a guarantee of confidence in the swine production processes, applying daily the processes and work ethics with the animals, promoting their well-being, their health and the quality of the meat.

Logistics Department Interview

Day to day of a Driver

VALTTL is the company responsible for the distribution of all the products and raw materials of the VALGRUPO companies. It has a recent fleet of more than 200 light and heavy vehicles. We transport food products for retail and large distribution, as well as animal feed and live animals, following the appropriate hygiene and safety standards defined by the EU.

How long have you worked as a driver at Valgrupo?

• For 30 years now, which is quite some time.

How did you become a driver?

• I started working as a driver's assistant, then I got the truck driver's licence and came here to be a driver for Valgrupo.

Tell us a little about your day to day life.

• I usually load cars, deliver goods to customers, here in the area, I only drive a few more kilometres if there's a driver absent.

How would you describe your working environment with other colleagues?

• We all get along well, we have a few scuffles from time to time but everything is fine.

Are there any unforeseen events? Which ones?

• Every day. We think we're going to do one tour and we end up doing another, then more clients turn up, but everything works out.

Is it easy to reconcile personal and professional life?

• It's easy to reconcile it with my personal life, I'm there very little. I spend more time here than at home. I usually work 8 hours, but sometimes something unex pected happens and I have to work a few more hours.

What do you like most about life as a driver?

• Driving.

And what do you like least?

• It's loading meat onto the truck and working, but it's been my job every day.

Artur Vicente Head of Logistics Department (Valttl)

The European Communities Commission, in 2001 defined Corporate Social Responsibility as "the voluntary integration of social and environmental concerns by companies in their business operations and in their interaction with other stakeholders". Thus, today companies voluntarily make alternative commitments to the conventional regulatory requirements of the past.

Based on this line of thought, and because the people who work in the various companies of the group are the key to success as an organisation, Valgrupo has been implementing partnership protocols with various entities from north to south of the country in the areas of health, sport, education and others. The main objective of these protocols is to provide our employees with benefits in various services
