I believe architecture is the mother of the arts; it is what makes us travel to the future or past. Architecture plays an important role in every individual’s life; design has the power to enhance experience and make significant differences on architectural trajectories.

Houston architecture is lacking of identity and unity, there is not an established criteria or style were you can identify Houston as. My purpose is to give back that missing identity to the city. Promoting an art movement and experience that will not only educate the population but also through architecture create an artistic awareness. Making the user live a sensorial experience through architecture and artistic trajectories.

Functioning around the idea of bonding architectural elements through circulatory and outside spaces the Houston museum of Art and Design explores work that is relevant to society nowadays. Subjects that include architecture, furniture, street art and fashion are going to predominate and determine the museum’s architectural distribution. The Portico HMAD through similar patterns of architectural elements is going to create a dialog between circulatory outside spaces with gallery and service spaces.

The museum wants to give an artistic experience to the user, giving them the opportunity to learn about art, experience it, or make it. With the implementation of permanent and temporary gallery spaces people will experience art in different level. The organization of the floor plan allows individuals to decide which artistic experience they want to follow. The main entrance of the museum force people into a central courtyard where they can choose to go to the auditorium for a learning experience, to gallery spaces for an enhancing experience or follow an interactive experience offered by the museum. The restaurant located on the east wing will not only serve the museum but also to the hospital and the city, giving costumers a culinary-artistic experience.
