FIRST CONCEPTUAL STRATEGY
SITE PLAN
THE ADAPTIVE-REUSE DESIGN PROPOSAL FOR A BUILDING NESTLED IN A ROMAN RESIDENTIAL AREA BETWEEN VIA LATINA AND VIA APPIA AIMS TO BREATHE A NEW LIFE INTO THE SPACE BY SEAMLESSLY BLENDING ELEMENTS OF CULTURE, AND NATURE. FOCUSING ON URBAN DESIGN THAT ENCOURAGES INTERACTION WITH GREEN SPACES AND NEGLECTED AREAS, THE BUILDING’S LAYOUT IS METICULOUSLY CRAFTED TO CATER THREE TIERS OF PRIVACY AND ENGAGEMENT. INSPIRED BY LOCAL ARCHITECTURAL TRADITIONS, THE DESIGN PRIORITIZES ADAPTABILITY THROUGH A STRAIGHTFORWARD MODULAR APPROACH. A CENTRAL COURTYARD ACTS AS A COMMUNAL HUB,
FACILITATING MOVEMENT AND OFFERING CLEAR NAVIGATION, WHILE ADJACENT PAVILIONS ACCOMMODATE VARIOUS FUNCTIONAL ACTIVITIES IN A COZY, DOMESTIC SETTING. ADDING DEPTH TO THE BUILDING’S NARRATIVE, A
SYMBOLIC LAYER REFLECTS ITS DEEP-ROOTED CONNECTION WITH ROME’S LAYERED HISTORY. OVERALL, THE RENOVATION AIMS TO PRESERVE THE BUILDING’S HISTORICAL INTEGRITY WHILE BRINGING URBAN INNOVATION.

TIONS WITH THE SURROUNDING NATURE AIM TO BRING PEOPLE INTO THE LIBRARY AND EXTEND THE ACTIVITIES WITHIN IT. THE USE OF NATURAL LIGHT AND COHESIVE VERTICAL PATTERN ON THE FACADE ADD TO THE OVERALL AESTHETIC OF THE BUILDING WHILE ALSO PROVIDING A FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE. THE OCULUS SPACE AND EXTERIOR AREA UNDERNEATH IT ALSO SERVE TO BREAK DOWN THE SCALE OF THE BUILDING. OVERALL, THE DESIGN INCORPORATES A BALANCE OF FORM AND FUNCTION TO CREATE A SPACE THAT MEETS THE NEEDS OF THE COMMUNITY

SITE PLAN
SPLITFIT, A FITNESS COMPANY, WAS DESIGNED WITH A STRONG CONSIDERATION FOR THE SITE AND WEATHER CONDITIONS OF LOS ANGELES. THE BUILDING WAS TRANSFORMED TO WORK WITH THE TYPOLOGY, SUN, AND VENTILATION THE SITE HAS TO OFFER. THE SLIT, THE MAIN TRANSPORTATION THROUGH THE SITE AND ENTRANCES INTO THE BUILDING, BREAKS THE DENSE URBAN CONTEXT THAT NEIGHBORS IT. THE BUILDING READS AS A MASS FROM THE SIDE BUT AS IT TURNS THE CORNER, IT REVEALS THE NUMEROUS BALCONIES THAT SHIFT AND ALLOW FOR VISUAL CONNECTION BETWEEN EACH OTHER. INSIDE, THE OPEN PLAN ALLOWS THE SPACES TO INTERACT WITH EACH OTHER, LETTING SUNLIGHT DEEPER INTO THE SPACES, AND RESPONDING EASILY TO THE COOLING AND HEATING OF THE BUILDING. LIKEWISE, THE PERFORATED FACADE ALLOWS LIGHT REGULATION AND PRIVACY .

"ARCHITECTURE OF THE CITY" OFFERS A COMPREHENSIVE EXPLORATION OF ROME THROUGH ON-SITE SKETCHING AND SITE-SEEING, PROVIDING A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO DELVE INTO ITS RICH ARCHITECTURAL AND URBAN HERITAGE. STROLLING ALONG THE VIA PAPALIS, PARTICIPANTS IMMERSE THEMSELVES IN SOME OF THE WORLD'S MOST SIGNIFICANT HISTORICAL ARCHITECTURE AND URBAN PLANNING. COMMENCING FROM THE ICONIC SAINT PETER'S BASILICA, THE COURSE ENCOMPASSES VISITS TO VARIOUS LANDMARKS OF DIVERSE TYPOLOGIES, FACILITATING A VISUAL CONTRAST AND ENHANCED UNDERSTANDING THROUGH SKETCHING AND SITE PLANNING EXER-
CISES. THIS COURSE PROVED IMMENSELY BENEFICIAL AS IT FOSTERED THE CREATION OF DISTINCTIVE PERSPECTIVES THROUGH ANALYTICAL SKETCHING. ENGAGING WITH THESE SPACES ALLOWED PARTICIPANTS TO DISCERN
THE HARMONY, PATTERN, AND RHYTHM OF THE CITY, MAKING FOR A TRULY MAGICAL EXPERIENCE OF EXPLORING ROME'S ARCHITECTURAL SPLENDOR. SKETCHING IS A GREAT WAY TO ANALYZE ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN.

THE PROJECT PROPOSES ESTABLISHING A STOREFRONT TO CONNECT WITH THE COMMUNITY WITH THE TEEN CENTER IN SPRINGDALE, ARKANSAS. THIS PROPOSAL WANTS TO TARGET INDIVIDUALS SUPPORTIVE OF LOCAL COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT. THIS SPACE WILL FEATURE A BAKERY CATERING TO TEENAGERS, ALONGSIDE AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS AND COMMUNITY EVENTS, REQUIRING A DESIGN THAT APPEALS TO DIVERSE DEMOGRAPHICS. CONSULTING THE COMMUNITY VIA FOCUS GROUPS OF SURVEYS IS CRUCIAL FOR CREATING AN INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENT. MARKETING WILL HIGHLIGHT BREW2BAKE’S COMMUNITY VALUES, POSSIBLY THROUGH LOCAL PARTNERSHIP. SUSTAINABILITY IS KEY, AIMING TO RE-PURPOSE RESOURCES AND REDUCE WASTE BY PARTNERING WITH LOCAL SUPPLIERS AND EXPLORING RECYCLING OPTIONS. PRIORITIZING SUSTAINABILITY WILL ENSURE PROFITABILITY AND BENEFIT BOTH THE ENVIRONMENT AND THE COMMUNITY. THE DESIGN PROPOSAL AIMS TO BRING A FRESH AND MODERN LOOK INTO THE EXISTING BUILDING TO CREATE A NEW IDENTITY, AND RE-BRANDING.

0.6 THE HUMANE CELL FALL -2022
THE HUMANE CELL PROJECT IS AN INNOVATIVE DESIGN STRATEGY THAT AIMS TO IMPROVE THE LIVING CONDITIONS AND REHABILITATION OUTCOMES OF PRISONERS AND PATIENTS IN SPACES OF CONFINEMENT. THE PROJECT IS GROUNDED IN AN ANALYSIS OF VARIOUS SPACES OF CONFINEMENT WORLDWIDE AND SEEKS TO IDENTIFY POSITIVE DESIGN CHARACTERISTICS THAT CAN ENHANCE THE WELL-BEING OF USERS. THE DESIGN STRATEGY TAKES ADVANTAGE OF THE SQUARE FOOTAGE PROVIDED SINCE “EXTRA” SPACE IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST LACKING THINGS IN THE OVERCROWDED PRISONS OF AMERICA. THE INTENTION IS TO CREATE A SAFE SPACE FOR THE USER, WHERE THEY CAN ENJOY SOME HUMAN ASPECTS OF LIFE, SUCH AS NATURE, AND SUNLIGHT. THIS ADA-COMPLIANT HUMANE CELL ENCOURAGES REHABILITATION, SAFETY, AND INCLUSION, REMOVES ANYTHING THAT COULD PROMOTE SELF-HARM OR HARM TO OTHERS, AND BRINGS A SENSE OF PRIVACY AND INDEPENDENCE. 07 THE LIGHTBOX FALL-2019
THE LIGHTBOX PROJECT IS A LIGHT STUDY THAT NOT ONLY FOCUSES ON SHADOW AND LIGHT PROJECTION BUT COLOR AND CHANGE. EVERY ASPECT OF THIS PROJECT WAS HANDMADE, AND EACH COLOR IS PAINTED WITH OIL PASTELS OVER THE WHITE MUSEUM BOARD. IT REPRESENTS AN INTERIOR SPACE, WHERE ONE OF ITS SIDES ITS A LAYERED WHITE OVER BLACK WALLS THAT HAVE SIX SKINNY VERTICAL OPENINGS FROM WHERE THE LIGHT WOULD ENTER THE SPACE, AND ANGLED FINS. THE BOX ALSO PROJECTS A SENSE OF HIERARCHY, THE ENTRANCE DIRECTS THE VIEW DIRECTLY TO THE FOCAL POINT WITH LAYERED BLACK PANELS. THE INTERIOR OF THE SPACE HAS AN ASYMMETRICAL-SHAPED CEILING THAT BREAKS DOWN THE SCALE AND ALLOWS THE LIGHT TO REFLECT UP AND DOWN INTO THE ROOM. INSIDE THE BOX WAS PAINTED A LIGHT PINK BUT AS THE LIGHT ENTERS THE SPACE THROUGH THE VERTICAL APERTURES, PLACES WHERE THE LIGHT TOUCHES CREATE A CONTRAST BETWEEN LIGHT AND COLOR, BECOMING AN ALTERNATION OF DARK-LIGHT PATTERN ALTERNATION THAT HAPPENS NATURALLY.
