DUAL ENROLLMENT (DE) ORIENTATION HANDOUT Welcome to the Valencia College Orientation! We are pleased that you have made the decision to participate in the Dual Enrollment program. While this orientation is designed for all Valencia students, it may contain information that does not directly apply to DE students. Following today’s orientation be sure to visit the DE website for the most frequently asked questions and accurate information about the program. Key Points for Dual Enrollment students to remember 1. Dual Enrollment courses are college courses so you will be expected to perform on a college level. 2. To get the most out of Dual Enrollment you need to have a plan. Try to determine

the different majors you are interested in as well as research the requirements of the colleges and schools you plan to attend. Also, look at the requirements (prerequisites and GPA requirements) for your major and take these into consideration as you select your courses. 3. Prior to contacting the DE Advisor or registering for classes you should meet with your HIGH SCHOOL guidance counselor for advice about what classes to take (ie. what courses are needed to satisfy high school requirements, high school schedules, etc.) 4. Your Dual Enrollment grades will remain on your college transcript.

“Quick Reference Guide” Please carefully review the attached and pay special attention to the following information: 1. Books and Fees 2. Registration a. DE students are only eligible for courses that are 3 or more credits; NO prep/developmental courses. b. Always read the pre-requisites for courses you are interested in taking. If there is a pre-requisite of completion of a high school course, remember that Valencia does not have your high school transcripts. The DE department will need to see your high school transcripts or receive confirmation from a high school counselor to verify satisfaction of the pre-requisite.
