DESIGN CONCEPT + SPACE PLAN

CONCEPT STATMENT:

The Ex Mattatoio has been converted into a HOLISTIC/NATURAL public bathhouse featuring a variety of pools, saunas, and a cafe. The long, thin glass walkway that runs through the middle of the structure serves as the space’s main point. From the roof to the bottom floor, it is symmetrical. This was done to provide a balance between the east and west walls and the aperture illumination coming from the linear skylight. Above the walkway the aperture and light take on a central role, separating and balancing the first level from the second story. There is a hanging plane louver dropped beneath the skylight, which is used to direct the light to different parts of the space as needed.

MINI PROJECTS: Material Design

PROJECT PROGRAM:

• Each project is assigned with the goal of enhancing physical crafting abilities and providing insight into design labor on any job site. Learning with various materials provides an opportunity to practice using multiple tools in the creative process.

DESIGN CONCPET

• Wood- Each single piece of the wood design will have a distinct angle so that sound can bounce off and be used as a wood panel.

• Plastic- A wall design will be created using the plastic material. By cutting the plastic sheet into smaller pieces, and painting the background parts while keeping the front pieces clear with the action of a heat-gun. The water wall reflection results from this.

• Metal- The metal strip measuring 8 by 8 is being incorporated into a ceiling design. Parts were cut and bent in an attempt to create a soft shadow on the walls and flooring.
