DESIGN CONCEPT + SPACE PLAN

CONCEPT STATMENT: The Ex Mattatoio has been converted into a HOLISTIC/NATURAL public bathhouse featuring a variety of pools, saunas, and a cafe. The long, thin glass walkway that runs through the middle of the structure serves as the space’s main point. From the roof to the bottom floor, it is symmetrical. This was done to provide a balance between the east and west walls and the aperture illumination coming from the linear skylight. Above the walkway the aperture and light take on a central role, separating and balancing the first level from the second story. There is a hanging plane louver dropped beneath the skylight, which is used to direct the light to different parts of the space as needed.
