This UpClose will focus on the relationship of dance and music, highlighting the Festival’s Leonard Bernstein ComposerIn-Residence, the Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw, and the new choreography being created to her work at the Festival this year by Justin Peck. Choreographer Justin Peck; emerging ballet choreographer Claudia Schreier; modern dancers and choreographers Silas Riener and Rashaun Mitchell; and New York City Ballet principal Tiler Peck, who will be making her choreographic debut. Live music for the premiere dances will be highlighted by a new composition by the Festival’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Leonard Bernstein Composer-In-Residence Caroline Shaw, with performances by Shaw herself, and musicians including Kate Davis, Cameron Grant, Kurt Crowley, and resident string quartet Brooklyn Rider, who will premiere a new composition by Gabriela Lena Frank.

FREE Performance Ballet HispĂĄnico will perform in a free family-friendly show at the Avon Performance Pavilion at Nottingham Park. The New York-based Ballet HispĂĄnico explores and celebrates the diversity of Latino cultures through the dialogue of dance. Also performing will be children from Vail's Celebrate The Beat arts education program.

Ballet HispĂĄnico, the premier Latino dance organization in the United States, is breaking through stereotypes by inspiring audiences with repertory that explores the diversity of Latino cultures. This performance will feature CARMEN.maquia, an exhilarating contemporary take on Bizet’s beloved composition which was recently featured on PBS' Lincoln Center at the Movies. ,#| ĂŒ/!/-. rqĆ•x~tq*'Ć• ĂŒ

Featuring Dorrance Dance with Toshi Reagon and BIGLovely

Created by Michelle Dorrance, Derick K. Grant, Toshi Reagon and Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards Dorrance Dance returns to the Festival with their collaborative work, The Blues Project. Bringing together Dorrance’s tap company with blues composer Toshi Reagon and her band BIGLovely, The Blues Project is a spectacular evening of original live music and explosive tap that The New Yorker calls, â€œâ€Śrich and exciting.â€? .| ĂŒ/!/-. rrĆ•x~tq*'Ć• ĂŒ

Closing Night Celebration with BalletX

Festival 2018 closes with Vail favorite BalletX in a program of works never before seen in Vail, including a world premiere by Lil Buck. The performance will be followed by an onstage dance party with the artists, bringing the Festival to a rousing conclusion celebrating dance for all.
