ABOUT Studio Group Project - 4 Members - Vaidehi, Ritu, Vidhi and Diksha. Instructor : Dr. Ravi Vaish Semester 8 Spring 2018 Location : Dwarka, New Delhi, India
About: The Delhi metro is a metro system serving Delhi and its satellite cities of Faridabad, Gurgaon, Noida and Ghaziabad in the National Capital Region of India. The Dwarka Metro Station is located on the Blue Line of the Delhi Metro. This station was built as an extention together with the Dwarka Sector in order to serve Dwarka residents better and provide interchange with the Delhi Airport Express. Responsibilities: I led a team of four for the Metro Station design studio project. I was responsible for designing the structure (steel space frame with Switch Glass Tech) and the facade of the Metro Station. I also devised the internal plans of the building i.e. the concourse level, planning strategic circulation of commuters throughout the building. Also, the final renders of this structure were created by me.

The proposed site is situated on the outskirts of New Delhi, approximately 50 Kms from the city centre. The National Highway (Grand Trunk Road) is adjacent to the site. The Rai Industrial Area is situated within 3 Kms of the site. This has a lot of textile manufacturing centres. The Aravali Hills are approximately 20 km away in the South East direction and form the backdrop of the Metro Station.
INITIAL CONCEPT SKETCHES
FORM EVOLUTION 1) The Aravali hills form a backdrop near the Dwarka metro station and serve as an inspiration for the form of the metro station.
2) The roof is modeled to mimic the profile of the Aravali hills. The walls have been slanted to add make the form visually dynamic.
3) ‘Steel Space Frame’ structure is added that covers the entile roof of the structure. The voids are filled using ‘Switch Glass Technology’ that turn opaque during peak daylight hours to enable diffused light in the interior.
4) The entrance is highlighted by a glass doorway that leads to the tickets area in the concourse level.
