ANNUAL EVENT

The Mighty Asian Moviemaking Marathon (MAMM) concluded its 17th edition with a sold-out gala and awards ceremony at the Vancouver Playhouse on August 26, 2022. It was the biggest MAMM to date, with not only the highest number of submissions in the competition’s history, but also the most films being made and screened: 8 ten-minute shorts and 11 one-minute ultra shorts.

MAMM17 was celebrated with lots of firsts. For the first time in its history, the competition expanded beyond Vancouver, with one team taking part all the way from Toronto. This year’s representation theme also saw not one but two queer stories being selected and screened. Additionally, various other important milestones were met, such as 80 percent of crews consisting of Asian Diaspora talents, and nearly 60 percent of this year’s film creators and directors comprising of female or gender diverse creatives.
