Collegians handed shock loss as race for finals positions heats up
Old Scotch have proved they are a force to be reckoned with, solidifying their hold on a finals finish with a 55-point victory over Coburg. The Cardinals would have surprised many with their form this season, having been elevated to the Premier Competition for this season.
After a strong win last weekend, Coburg failed to back it up, kicking only one goal via Teagan Brett in the final quarter, being held scoreless for the first three quarters of the game.
It was a high scoring affair for Old Scotch, setting the tone in the first quarter with four goals. It was a true team effort, with six different goalkickers for the match. For the Lions, Lauren Suleiman was their best whilst Olivia Arundel was the Cardinals’ best.
Next up, Old Scotch will host Fitzroy, whilst Coburg go into a must-win clash against Collegians in the Sunday afternoon time slot.
Collegians were handed an unexpected loss on the weekend, falling to West Brunswick by 22 points. A loss in a middle-order clash has potentially put Collegians spot in finals at risk, as they now sit in fourth only one game clear of the Magpies.
In the match of the round, the Magpies’ stepped up, and their second quarter showed they were ready to go to battle for the day, kicking 3.2. Georgia Harris kicked Collegians only two goals for the game, whilst Kayla Slattery was their best. West Brunswick did not list their best players or goalkickers at the time of writing.
Collegians will travel to Piranha Park next weekend in what is a must-win game to ensure their hold on a spot in the finals, as West Brunswick host Melbourne Uni.
It was business as usual for St Kevin’s on Saturday, beating Fitzroy by 42 points at Righetti Oval. Fitzroy were held goalless for the first quarter and went on to kick 1.2 for the remainder of the game.
It was raining goals for SKOB, kicking 7.8 for the game, yet it was their last quarter which was the most impressive. Having kicked 3.6 to three quarter time, the girls found avenues to goal, kicking 4.2 in the fourth quarter.
Ashleigh Byers had two goals for the game to feature in the best, whilst Eliza Straford earned the best on ground. It was a game where less experienced players stepped up and had their moment which is great to see in the lead up to finals. Fitzroy did not upload their goalkickers or best players at the time of writing.
St Kevin’s will have the bye next weekend before they return to finish their run home into finals. Fitzroy travel to Camberwell to take on Old Scotch.
Kew was another one to continue their dominance on the weekend, beating Melbourne Uni by 36 points. It marks a second tough loss for Melbourne Uni after they lost to Fitzroy by 46 points last week.
Melbourne Uni kicked only 1.3 for the game, being held to just one point for the entirety of the first half. Credit must be given to Kew for such strong defence which will hold them in good stead heading towards finals.

Old Geelong and De La Salle create an intriguing finals race
As the battle to the finals continues to bubble away, St Bernards have come away from round 15 with their hearts full of confidence, extending four games clear on top of the ladder. With three rounds to come, third and fourth spot are still up for the taking with De La Salle, Old Geelong, St Bedes/Mentone, and Beaumaris all in the hunt.
The top two sides took to the field at the Brunswick Street Oval in a battle that was played in twilight conditions. St Bernards got the better of Fitzroy by 13 points, but it was certainly a tighter contest than their previous encounter played in round 8.
For the Snowdogs, it was rare to see the Roys post a score of 73 considering they’ve been able to keep teams to an average of 51.8 points a game, leading the competition in this category. However, it was a gallant performance from Fitzroy who kicked five final quarter goals as they pushed the Snowdogs to the bell. Ted Clayton kept them in the hunt with two majors as the Roys finished with 10 individual goal kickers. Mark Gregory provided some quality service for the Snowdogs, as he was named their best with Charlie Vague and also Daniel Mott each kicking three.
After some off field drama, Beaumaris were last week informed that they had been stripped of any premiership points gained in round 11 and 12 for exceeding their player points with an Independent Integrity Panel making a final judgement. With the ladder adjusted on Friday, a win for the Sharks was ever important to stay in touch with the finals race. De La Salle spoilt the party however, with a ten-point win at Waverley Oval.
The match was tight throughout the afternoon with Nathan Scollo kicking four for De La Salle and Steven Karvellas named their best. For the Sharks, they remain a game behind De La Salle, Old Geelong, and St Bedes/Mentone but a strong percentage could see them climb up the ladder if they are to win next week against Old Geelong.
St Bedes/Mentone Tigers were victorious over the Monash Blues by 65 points with Michael Barnes kicking five for the afternoon and Brayden O’Toole booting four.
The Tigers found themselves in control for much of the afternoon including a powerful final quarter which saw them kick six goals. Will Snookes battled up forward for the Blues with three majors with Nixon Hall named their best player.
Old Geelong was able to win convincingly against Old Trinity at Como Park as they continue the push for a top four spot. Mickey Nicholls booted four majors for the afternoon to progress his yearly total to 31.
Harrison Kol also managed to find the goals with three majors. Despite a three-point difference at the main break, Old Geelong stormed clear in the second half with 12 goals.
The final match of the round in Premier B saw Williamstown CYMS string together a solid performance as they prevailed against AJAX by 59 points.

Beaumaris: M. Harms, C. Linehan, C. Heath, C. Murphy, M. Williams, K. Dyer
AJAX began well with the scores locked in a tie at the first break. But Williamstown were able to pull away during the remainder of the match via the work of Zachary Provest and William Smyth who both kicked four goals. Tane Roordink wasn’t far behind with three goals as he was named Williamstown’s best player.
So, what can we look forward to in Round 16? The most intrigue will be with Beaumaris as they face Old Geelong in what can only be described as a ding dong battle. If the Sharks are to win it could see them jump back into the top four, while for Geelong, a win would help their finals aspirations and make it all the more difficult for Beaumaris. Fitzroy will be hoping to bounce back against St Bedes/Mentone with Old Trinity to face De La Salle. Meanwhile the Snowdogs will clash with Ajax with the final match to see Monash Blues and Williamstown do battle.

Vulture’s epic last quarter puts them in prime position for finals

Round 15 of the Premier C Men’s competition has been nothing short of intense, with teams either solidifying their spots in the finals or falling further away from their desired positions.
At Chelsworth Park, the highly anticipated clash between Old Ivanhoe and Parkdale Vultures unfolded, with significant ladder implications at stake. Old Ivanhoe was eager to secure a top two spot, while Parkdale fought to cement their position in the top four, a position they were barely holding on to.
The game remained tightly contested for the first three quarters, with Parkdale maintaining a slight edge on the scoreboard. Ivanhoe fought back however and narrowed the gap to just two points by the end of the third quarter.
In the final quarter, Parkdale unleashed an offensive onslaught, scoring five goals that led them to a 16-point victory. Ryan Macdermid played a crucial role for the Vultures, contributing five goals to their 14, while Harvey Johnston also made a significant impact with two goals of his own.
With this win, Parkdale now find themselves a game and a half clear in fourth position on the ladder, firmly in control of their destiny as they need to only secure a win against Mazenod next week to lock in a finals spot. The team’s remarkable form suggests they could pose a serious threat in the finals, especially after defeating a top two side like Old Ivanhoe.
Old Ivanhoe, on the other hand, missed a golden opportunity to solidify their top two position, finding themselves still tied with PEGS, only holding onto their top two position by percentage.
Meanwhile, Mazenod missed a big chance to stay in touch with the top four as they fell 15 points short to Old Carey in a scrappy encounter at Carey Sports Complex. Despite a relatively low-scoring affair, Lachlan Senior’s three goals proved instrumental in securing the victory for Old Carey.
The loss has made it more challenging for Mazenod to secure a finals appearance. Their upcoming match against Parkdale Vultures will be crucial, as a win would keep their season alive, but a loss would bring it to an end.
In a dominant performance, Old Camberwell emerged as 57-point victors against the Hampton Rovers, tightening their spot in the top two, holding a game and a half lead on top of the ladder.
Old Camberwell came out of the blocks with a strong start and carried that momentum throughout. Ben Hart and Riley Verbi made significant contributions, with 3 and 4 goals, respectively.
In a tough day at the office for the Rovers, the likes of Harrison Mcintyre and William Crawford stood tall, with 2 goals each and mentioned in their best players.
Marcellin showed their determination to avoid relegation by securing a resounding 91-point victory over Ormond
Lachlan Rush, Josh Posar, and Adam Tomaro each kicked three goals to celebrate the win, providing some relief in a trying season.
Although Ormond couldn’t get the job done, Blake Picone and James Tsakonas led from the front. With the bye next round, Ormond will be able to regroup before looking to finish the season strong in the final two rounds.

As the competition moves forward to Round 16, all eyes will be on Gerry Green Reserve, where the Parkdale Vultures face Mazenod in what will be a finals-like game with season-defining consequences. A victory for the Vultures would secure their spot in the finals and eliminate Mazenod from contention. On the other hand, a win for Mazenod would keep their season alive for another week.
Additionally, the clash between Old Camberwell and Old Ivanhoe promises to be a crucial game that could significantly impact the order of the top four.
With such high stakes encounters on the horizon, Round 16 is shaping up to be another thrilling chapter in Premier C Men’s.
