Programme Director: Cynthia Hawkes

One of the only Montreal venues for jewellery study outside of a degree program, the department offers instruction in jewellery construction, forming, and wax techniques, using sterling silver and other materials. Original design and creativity is also emphasized.

This introduction to basic metal construction allows you to evolve your skills over time. You will learn to saw, file, form, solder, and produce several sterling silver pieces during the session. Make a simple ring, chain, earrings, or pendant; returning students may progress to stone setting or projects in lost wax technique. Materials may be purchased from the instructor (tools provided). Two to three projects can be completed in one semester. Beginner and intermediate level.

Personal Projects in Jewellery

Continue your jewellery training by exploring intermediate and advanced metalworking techniques, while developing a personal sense of design. Depending on the student’s level of technical proficiency and experience, projects of varying complexity may be completed. This course includes technical demonstrations, creative exercises and individual guidance at each stage of creation. Prerequisite: two sessions of Jewellery Fundamentals.

A Ring in a Day

Sun. Oct. 16 , 11:00 am - 3:00 pm Cynthia Hawkes

Explore basic metal construction while making a simple silver ring from sterling silver sheet or wire. Learn how to saw, file, work with a torch and finally, complete your ring by polishing on a machine. No experience necessary.

If necessary, extra materials may be purchased from the instructor (cash only).

$70 + $12 materials

Open Studio Workshop

Thu. Oct. 20 to Nov. 10 6:30 - 9:30 pm Elin Weinstein

This 4 week open studio session allows students who are currently registered, extra studio time to work on their own projects. No teaching is involved but a jewellery technician will be present. Materials may be purchased from the technician (tools provided). Prerequisite : one session of jewellery fundamentals or the equivalent.
