BGAV Treasurer David Washburn explains the 2020 budget figures during Tuesday’s main session at the 2019 annual meeting.

BGAV APPROVES 2020 BUDGET

During the Wednesday business session of the 196th Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV) Annual Meeting, messengers voted to approve the 2020 Cooperative Missions budget of $9.1 million.

This figure represents the same budgeted amount as in 2019, with some slight changes in allocations, notably 9.25% formerly allocated towards Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond that will be allocated towards theological education in Virginia in 2020.

Within his budget report, BGAV Treasurer David Washburn also noted four other categories of revenue that are outside Cooperative Missions: Designated Gifts, Camp and Conference Center Registration Revenue, Program Revenue, and Other. Those ministry resources total just over $7.1 million. With an additional $4.2 million in estimated revenue from giving to special offerings, together these total anticipated giving of just over $20.5 million—a slight decrease of $500,000 from 2019.

Washburn expressed deep gratitude to the individuals and church representatives present for giving in the midst of cultural challenges. He encouraged them that challenges should not invoke fear, but embolden the BGAV to carry out its mission to unleash the power of Christ.

Meeting attendees had an opportunity to attend a breakout session with members of the executive board on Tuesday afternoon in order to ask questions and offer comments about the proposed budget.

All BGAV church pastors and treasurers should receive a packet containing 2020 budget materials. For additional copies, please contact the BGAV business office at 800.255.2428.
