Welcome from Supercars

Barclay Nettlefold Chair & Interim CEO, Supercars

Welcome to the 2026 NTI Townsville 500 – one of the great highlights of the Repco Supercars Championship calendar and North Queensland’s biggest annual sporting spectacle. This year marks the 18th year of racing in Townsville, a city that has become part of the fabric of Supercars. After the success of last year’s refreshed format, we’re proud to return in 2026 with an even bigger weekend for fans. With the championship battle intensifying and every race carrying real consequences, fans can expect three days of fierce competition, close racing, and the kind of moments that define a Supercars season. Townsville has delivered some unforgettable moments over the years, and we know this year will be no different. Off the track, the action starts early and continues right across the weekend. Summernats Goes Troppo takes over on Friday, bringing its signature celebration of automotive culture to Townsville. Australia’s top tyre shredders will put on a showcase of burnouts and drifting displays and, as a qualifying round for the iconic Summernats Grand Finals, you can expect some of the loudest and wildest performances of the year. On Saturday, we again bring together the highoctane thrill of Supercars racing with the raw power of Professional Bull Riders Australia. After 200km

of Supercars racing, we will see some of the world’s best cowboys and the baddest bulls battle on the dirt in the heart of our track precinct – a spectacular fusion of motorsport and extreme sport. Add to that Freestyle Motocross stunt shows, local club displays, sponsor activations, live music, DJs, destination bars and more, and Townsville becomes three massive days of full-throttle entertainment on and off the track. We’re also proud to welcome back the Australian Defence Force, offering fans an incredible interactive experience featuring armoured vehicles, military demonstrations, and live performances by Townsville’s own Army bands. This event wouldn’t be possible without the support of the City of Townsville, our loyal fans, and our event partners and the North Queensland community. Thank you for your continued passion and commitment to making this event so special. On behalf of everyone at Supercars, thank you for being part of the 2026 NTI Townsville 500. This weekend brings together everything fans love about Supercars — fierce racing, big entertainment, passionate fans and an atmosphere only Townsville can deliver. Enjoy the show, have a brilliant weekend trackside, and soak up all the best that Townsville has to offer.

Welcome to what is going to be one of the most wide-open Repco Supercars Championship seasons in recent history. Repco enters its sixth season as the naming rights holder, which has seen a period of much change, highlighted by the Gen3 regulations implemented at the beginning of 2023, the all-new finals system last year, and in 2026, the emergence of a brand-new player. When the Supercars grid lines up in Sydney, Toyota enters the fray with five Supras – the first time that the all-conquering Japanese brand will compete in Supercars. On top of this, Triple Eight Race Engineering will return to the Ford camp, and a crop of fast young rookies will try to make their mark on the category. Yeah ... there’s a lot to take in. Reigning champion Chaz Mostert brings the #1 to Toyota, leading a five-strong contingent of the highly anticipated Supras, split between Walkinshaw TWG Racing and Brad Jones Racing. It’s a bold new world for Mostert and the Toyota tribe, but if we know one thing about Toyota, it won’t settle for being secondbest for too long. An expanded 14-round season begins under the bright lights at Sydney Motorsport Park and ends at

the exciting bp Grand Final in Adelaide. The big change is that Supercars will race twice in New Zealand as part of a doubleheader, with Taupō joined by Ruapuna near Christchurch on the South Island. These two New Zealand circuits join the likes of Hidden Valley, Wanneroo, The Bend and the prestigious Repco Bathurst 1000. The on-track Supercars action is what we all come for, and at Repco, we’re always aiming to go over and above for our fans.Look out for more cool fan initiatives at the circuit, including our famous car fleet. And while we focus on the future with Supercars, you’ll see Repco tip its hat during the year to Sir Jack Brabham, who 60 years ago, won the Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship. Powered by a Repcodeveloped engine, Brabham became the first and, likely, last driver to win the title in a car bearing their own name. Trying to predict a title winner out of 25 of the best drivers from this part of the world is tough, and the Finals format makes it almost impossible! On behalf of every Repco crew member, we’ll be watching the Supercars season along with you because we have petrol in our veins and we can’t wait to catch up with you all at the track!

2026 NTI TOWNSVILLE 500

Welcome to the 2026 NTI Townsville 500! There’s nothing quite like this time of year in North Queensland - blue skies, winter sunshine, and a city that comes alive with the unmistakable energy of Supercars. It’s a weekend where world-class motorsport meets community spirit, bringing together race fans, local families and visitors from around the country. Across three days the streets transform into a high-speed battleground with wall-towall Supercars action on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. But there’s plenty more on beyond racing for families to enjoy and make the most of the festivities. From the Transporter Parade & Track to Town processions, to the ever-popular Palmer Street Party, the excitement kicks off early giving fans the chance to connect with the teams and drivers before they battle it out on the track. OFFICIAL PROGRAM

Off track, Summernats Goes Troppo is back, as well as crowd favourite the Professional Bull Riders Australia Pro Touring Series. Around the precinct there’s no shortage of ways to be part of the action with a range of family-friendly attractions to explore, including the Auto Show, Defence displays and taking in the panoramic track views from the Family Ferris Wheel. Don’t’ forget to stop by the NTI stand in Merchandise Alley. We’re proud to once again be supporting the MND and Me Foundation through our annual truck raffle. This year’s truck is a beautifully restored and modernised custom-built 1947 Chevrolet Maple Leaf truck named “Ruby”. The raffle will be drawn live on Sunday, with 100% of ticket sales going directly to supporting research and those living with Motor Neurone Disease in Australia. Best of luck to all teams - we hope you enjoy a thrilling and safe weekend of racing.

The Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia remains a breeding ground for future Porsche Carrera Cup drivers, as well as a growing number of Supercars prospects.

S

vince 2008, the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia has provided an array of racers with their introduction to the world of one-make Porsche racing Exhibit A is Ryan Wood, who used his season of Sprint Cup racing in 2022 as a springboard to the big time. That season, Wood won six of the 15 races he contested, picked up eight pole positions, logged 11 fastest laps, and finished on the podium 14 times. He subsequently skipped the Carrera Cup path and elected to join Walkinshaw Andretti United in Super2, where his five wins gave him third in the 2023 series pointscore, before jumping into the Repco Supercars Championship in 2024 Walkinshaw TWG Racing enduro co-driver Jaxon Evans is another to launch from the Sprint Challenge to the big time.

26

|

In 2016, he shot to prominence by winning nine of 18 races contested, while Cooper Murray claimed second in the 2018 season. Harri Jones is another driver to climb the ranks, with his career path starting in earnest in the Sprint Challenge. He has subsequently gone on to win the Australian Carrera Cup twice, and has also spent a season driving abroad in the Porsche Supercup, which serves as the curtain-raiser for F1 events across Europe. Looking further abroad, Matt Campbell won the Class B title in 2014, before developing into a fully-fledged factory pilot, which last year took him to the outright Le Mans 24 Hour podium driving for Roger Penske’s Stuttgart-backed Porsche prototype outfit. The recent series-winning alumni are well worth keeping an eye on as well, with Kiwi

young guns Marco Giltrap and Oscar Targett leading the field home in recent seasons, with the duo set for stardom. While the category has proven to be a talent factory, that’s only telling half the story, with super-competitive racing across multiple classes key to its success. Now managed by Porsche Cars Australia, the category mixes aspiring young professionals and Pro-Am racers eager to make a point. While the bulk of the field is racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Type 991 Gen II machines, which served as the primary Carrera Cup weapon of choice from 2018 through 2021, a smattering of older Gen I chassis competes for Class B honours, in a race within a race. One thing’s for sure: when the Porsches come out to play on the Supercars undercard, there will be non-stop action. ■

YOUNG TALENT TIME

The stars of tomorrow race here. The Toyota GAZOO Racing Australia GR Cup returns in 2026 with big fields and fantastic racing.

T

he Toyota GAZOO Racing Australia GR Cup remains a leading attraction on the Repco Supercars Championship undercard, featuring the best and brightest talent in the motorsport pipeline competing in identical equipment. At the start of the 2024 season, a brand-new model GR86 made its racing debut on the streets of Townsville, which has proven to continue the category’s tradition of ultra-tight racing that breeds the future stars of the sport. Built by longtime Toyota partner Neal Bates Motorsport, the latest-generation machine features more power and less weight than its predecessor, and despite faster lap times, racing has continued to be spectacular. If history is anything to go by, the stars of the future will be racing in front of you this weekend. In 2016, Will Brown secured the inaugural

28

|

Australian Toyota 86 Racing Series title with seven wins from 14 races, a feat that marked the beginning of his subsequent rise up the motorsport ranks, culminating in his victory in the 2024 Repco Supercars Championship. Similarly, his Red Bull Ampol Racing stablemate, Broc Feeney, shot to prominence with his exploits in the class in 2018, before cleaning up in Super3 and Super2, and eventually replacing Jamie Whincup at Triple Eight Race Engineering. Cameron Hill twice featured in the top three of the end-of-season pointscore, while it was also a step on the ladder to the Supercars main game taken by the likes of Kai Allen, Aaron Cameron and Ryan Wood. Looking elsewhere within the Supercars ranks, there is ample GR Cup experience, including fresh graduates to the main game such as Zach Bates, Rylan Gray, Jobe Stewart, Jayden Ojeda and Declan Fraser. Come endurance race time, the list swells

to include the likes of Cameron Crick, Lochie Dalton, Zak Best, Brad Vaughan and Jarrod Hughes. Such is the category’s popularity that, in 2023, a second-tier Scholarship Series was introduced as a further stepping stone for young drivers entering the motorsport scene, with competitors utilising firstgeneration machinery. Several of its products have excelled upon arrival in the GR Cup, with graduates including Max Geoghegan, the grandson of five-time Australian Touring Car champion Ian Geoghegan, who has subsequently stepped up into the Dunlop Super2 Series after winning the 2024 GR Cup. In 2026, the Toyota GAZOO Racing Australia GR Cup will feature a stacked calendar alongside the Repco Supercars Championship, kicking off in Sydney before visiting Townsville, Queensland Raceway, Bathurst and Sandown. ■

HEAVY METAL BATTLE

The Touring Masters toTownsville be a crowdstreets favourite circuitsRICHARD around Porsches willCar once againcontinues race on the but, atreports Australia, with familiar faces pushing big bad V8s to the limits. CRAILL, there’s a twist for 2024…

t

he Touring Car Masters Series is continuing its resurgence in 2026, with the ever-popular class bringing together an eclectic mix of memorable muscle cars. Rolling out with a six-round national tour, TCM combines classic metal from the 1970s and ‘80s, bringing back big memories from the Group C era and beyond. Taking centre stage will once again be the battle of blue versus red, with Ford’s finest taking on the best General Motors has to offer, with a field drawn from both home-grown Aussie-manufactured muscle cars, and the big, brash iron stemming from Detroit’s Pony Car scene. In the Ford corner, expect entrants from the early generations of Mustang, plus Falcon’s fastest, extending from early XY GTHO models to more contemporary XDs, which starred in touring car circles at the turn of the 1980s.

Wearing Chevrolet’s Bowtie proudly will be examples such as the Camaro and Monza, while Holden fans will rejoice in the best from the Torana and Commodore nameplates. A left field addition to the ranks is typically the Tilley family’s Valiant Pacer, which provides a proverbial cat among the pigeons from the Mopar ranks. Perhaps the most exciting aspect of this mix is that the category’s rules are designed to see performance equalised on track, which paves the way for cars from different eras to be competitive on any given weekend. Since the category’s inception in 2007, it has earned an impressive honour roll, including five-time champion John Bowe, four-time victor Steven Johnson, and two-time winner Jim Richards. Last year, the title was secured by Joel Heinrich, after a string of standout

performances in his Whiteline Racingprepared Camaro. Keep an eye out for additional machinery to join the Touring Car Masters field in 2026, with some exciting new builds in progress. Weekend formats feature an emphasis on racing action, with a reverse grid Trophy Race kicking off each round, followed by three short, sharp sprint races, culminating in an overall round winner. The 2026 season comprises six rounds, kicking off with the Dunlop Sydney 500 at Sydney Motorsport Park, then Symmons Plains Raceway and the streets of Townsville for the NTI Townsville 500. August will see a return to Sydney for the Australian Muscle Car Masters, before linking back up with the Repco Supercars Championship for the AirTouch 500 at The Bend and the Bathurst TCM Grand Finale at the Repco Bathurst 1000. ■

The Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series always turns on a large spectacle, even if the cars are small in size…

A

pack of angry ants or pint-sized racers, call them what you will, but the Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series is a must-see part of the support category action at the Tyrepower Tasmania Super 440. Around half the scale of the road-going counterparts, Aussie Racing Cars have been developed over time to provide fast, close racing. While the spec underpinnings of the machines ensure even competition, a range of different body styles have been developed for the class, giving competitors the freedom to support the marque of their choosing. For the nostalgia buffs, there’s the 1940 Ford and FJ Holden reproductions, to the more contemporary Ford Falcon, Holden

Commodore and Cruze, Toyota Aurion, Nissan Altima, Hyundai Elantra, Euro GT, Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang - there truly is something for everyone in the mix of available body styles. While a tightly controlled parity process has seen the cars evenly matched in terms of lap times, the Mustang has proven to be a popular choice amongst series champions in recent times, with Joel Heinrich, Josh Anderson and Justin Ruggier claiming titles, while Kody Garland on top of the pandemicshortened 2021 season, as well as last year's pointscore. Up front, propelling the machines is a motorcycle-derived 1.3-litre, 135 BHP twin-cam 16 valve engine that revs to 11,500 RPM, while the total package tips the

scales at only 500kg, resulting in a potent power-to-weight ratio. In a change for the category, chassis are now being produced by Triple Eight Race Engineering, with the first example debuting last year. This season's Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series will be once again held over seven rounds, with at least five contested at Repco Supercars Championship events spread around the country. The schedule kicked off at Mount Panorama at the Bathurst 6 Hour meet, before visiting Symmons Plains, the Townsville Street Circuit, Queensland Raceway, Shell V-Power Motorsport Park at The Bend, with the final event of the season to be announced. ■
