A B RAN D T HAT MEANS SOM ET HING . Behind those two simple characters – a letter and a number – there is a century-old history of pure bloodlines, skilled expertise, and uncompromising standards. V8 is shorthand for a host of sought-after traits. It is also the symbol of our singular focus on producing one of the world’s most exceptional Brahman herds. FAMILY MATTERS For four generations, V8 Ranch has remained steadfastly independent and family-owned. That gives us the flexibility to maintain an old-school commitment to our skills, training and history. We only employ skilled tradespeople who are as passionate about Brahman cattle ranching as we are. Our staff has become a part of our extended family, and they deserve accolades for making the V8 brand a highly revered name in the Brahman cattle industry. But, V8 Ranch founder Sloan Williams, his son, Jim Williams, and Jim’s son-in-law, Brandon Cutrer, are the only three individuals authorized to brand a cow or bull with the V8 stamp of excellence. Why? Because the meaning behind the process is so very important.

THE POWER OF THE BRAND The V8 branding iron represents an original bloodline that now roams six continents. It reflects the passionate men and women who have devoted their lives to creating a superior Brahman breeding process and selection program. We stake our reputation on each animal we deem worthy of the V8 brand, a symbol of our guarantee, our commitment, and our promise of integrity. GLOBAL TRADE We work hard to provide beef producers worldwide with outstanding Brahman cattle for seedstock and crossbreeding. We specialize in registered Brahman cattle, frozen semen and embryos and serve ranchers in all four hemispheres.

TEXAS ROOTS Both Sloan and Mollie Williams come from Texas families with a passion for ranching. In 1971, the Williams continued that tradition with the purchase of V8 Ranch. Those in the business know why we do it: the love of our cattle. We take great pride in our heritage, our Christian values, our work ethic, and above all our hands-on family atmosphere.

WELCOME TO THE V8 BRAND.

V 8 R ANCH CEL EBR ATES th I TS 75 ANNIVER S A RY Families – that’s been our focus for three-quarters of a century. One original bloodline. Four generations of passionate ranchers. And nearly 20,000 head branded with the V8 iron. For 75 years, V8 ranch has been devoted to excellence in breeding Brahman cow families. And we admit – there were some tough years filled with nearly unbearable pressure. And they were so worth it. Today, as V8 celebrates its diamond anniversary, our distinctive, award-winning Brahman ‘jewels’ shine all over the world as the strongest, stylish, most adaptable cattle of their kind. Our customers span six different continents – including subtropical, jungle, and desert climates. And, our breeding helps them succeed. Just like our Brahmans, we’ve also learned the importance of adaptation. V8 has stood at the forefront of countless changes to the science, tools, and processes of the cattle ranching business. But, our insistence on excellence has been unbreakable. The marketplace may change, but rest assured that V8’s commitment, values, and integrity are forever. Thank you for your support across the decades; our family looks forward to celebrating this milestone year– and many more years to come – with you. 7

At V8, we take a lot of pride in being a hands-on working family ranch. Our family believes there is no job too big or too small that we can’t do, or won’t be willing to do, or are “too good” to do. However, the success of V8 Ranch would not be possible without the talented stockmen who work with us. Side by side alongside us, through the daylights and sunsets, wind and rain, sweat and frost, floods and droughts, they have devoted their lives to the passion of the Brahman breed and V8 Ranch. In many cases, their spouses have also dedicated their talents to V8 Ranch.

What you might not know about V8 is this: Sloan and Mollie Williams both come from deeply rooted Texas ranching families. Sloan’s family has been in the cattle business in Millican, Texas for more than 100 years. Mollie’s great-great-grandmother, Rachel Ann Hudgins, bought her first ranch in 1882, at the start of a Texas ranching boom—11,000 acres outside of Houston. Rachel Ann was an extraordinary woman, not to mention a rarity in nineteenth-century Texas: a landowner and businesswoman. What does it take to be a ranch pioneer? For starters, hard work. Also, persistence, Christian values, and hands-on experience. Mollie grew up on the J.D. Hudgins Ranch, and today, we still keep a special place in our hearts for our cousins at J.D. Hudgins. After all, our legacy has been built on family ties and traditions. When Sloan and Mollie decided to gamble on their love of livestock and buy V8 Ranch in 1971, they knew just what they were doing. And it’s quite the story, too!

HOW V8 GOT ITS START: HOWARD PARKER AND DR. JACOBS

THE

V8

S TO RY. PIONEER DAYS 14

Before we can tell you how we got V8 Ranch, we have to tell you how it came to be such a catch. V8 was established long before Sloan and Mollie got to it, back in 1944. It was founded by Howard Parker of Center, Texas. The original cattle were acquired from Dr. William States Jacobs, a pioneer Brahman breeder who established his herd with cattle imported directly from India in 1924 and 1925. Jacobs’ breeding is known as AA cattle, an ABBA classification that signifies cattle of pure Indian descent. Early foundation animals from Jacobs’ herd include Hattie Cleo (ABBA C1409), who’s famous for being the most significant imported female in the history of the Brahman breed. From Hattie Cleo, Tippu the Great and Optimus lines of cattle developed - lines that could be found in the bloodlines of Howard Parker’s herd. Parker was a Ford automobile dealer and named his cattle ranch V8, after the engine. Over time, his herd became well-known throughout the country for its outstanding cow families with gentle dispositions. The foundation herd came first from Jacobs’ bloodlines, then later with the addition of some Manso breeding, and even later with Imperator influence. The Optimus bull—descended from the great Hattie Cleo—was deeply influential in the early V8 herd. It’s no surprise that today, more than 70 years later, the guiding force behind V8 breeding is still its legendary cow families.

BECOMING V8: SLOAN AND MOLLIE TAKE A CALL FROM DESTINY

In 1976, Jim Williams graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in animal science, and he and his wife Luann returned to the ranch. Jim began work as manager of the Brahman herd, and Luann took care of the ranch office duties.

We promised you a story, and this one’s a gem. When Sloan Williams was inducted into the ABBA Hall of Fame, the award presenter actually joked, “The way Sloan made the deal to purchase the V8 cow herd is cause enough to induct him into the Hall of Fame!”

Jim has a keen eye for cattle breeding and a passion for Brahman herd improvement—two qualities of a successful cattleman. He quickly began implementing strict selection and culling guidelines that we still follow to this day. He adopted performance record-keeping. He began to assemble what has become one of the most detailed and complete cow herd production histories available on any herd in the United States.

So how’d he do it? In 1971, word got out that Parker was looking to sell the V8 herd, brand, and ranch in Center, Texas. It was just one week before Christmas when Sloan heard the news. Even back then, V8 was known as one of the better Brahman ranches in the United States. The cattle were good cattle, and Sloan knew it. The ranch was not only on the market—Parker wanted the deal to go through before the New Year! Problem was —Sloan was out of town, in New Mexico, on his first (and only) Williams family ski trip. These were the days before email and cell phones. Communication was going to be tricky, but this was destiny. And, when destiny’s calling, you call back. Sloan negotiated the million-dollar deal via a pay phone in Red River, New Mexico. He recruited investors to purchase the real estate from the ranch, but acquired the registered cattle herd and V8 brand himself. After his vacation, Sloan relocated the herd to Wharton County, where they’ve lived ever since.

BUILDING V8 RANCH: A FAMILY AFFAIR Building a world-famous ranch takes hard work, sleepless nights, and unwavering dedication. Sloan knew that as the owner of V8, he would need to draw on the talents of his wife and family. After all, ranching is a family tradition, and everyone was happy to help out with the effort.

THAT V8 STYLE: OUR RAPID RISE Although V8 had a high level of notoriety dating back to its foundation in the 1940s, and we exhibited our first National Champion Female in 1976 and our first National Champion Bull in 1979, it wasn’t until the early ’80s that the ranch really exploded onto the worldwide Brahman scene. Under Jim and Sloan’s expert breeding, V8 Ranch became best known for its outstanding cow families.

HOW FAR HAVE V8 CATTLE AND GENETICS TRAVELED? Every state in the southern United States California to Tennessee As far north as Canada North America South America Europe Asia Australia Africa More than 40 countries worldwide

What made us famous? Our remarkable ability to consistently breed and market large volumes of cattle bred specifically for fertility, conformation, Brahman breed character, and structural correctness. By focusing our energy on developing these characteristics, we unconsciously developed something else: an unmistakable V8 look, carried by our females, that’s become recognizable the world over. Breeders all across the world claim they can identify a V8-bred animal without even looking at their brand or pedigree. “It’s that V8 style,” they tell us. We hosted our first ranch production sale in 1981: “The Golden Gate Sale.” It was a runaway success, breaking 6 Brahman sale world records. It still holds the record for the highest-averaging Brahman production sale of all-time, with an average of $14,357 per head. 15

In the mid-’80s, we acquired a significant group of cattle from the dispersal of the U.S. Sugar Corporation. As a student, Jim had spent a great deal of time with the USSC managers, learning about their breeding program and history. When the herd dispersed, we purchased their top animals to incorporate into the V8 herd. What did the influx of U.S. Sugar genetics bring us? Mr. V8 202/3, one of the breed’s elite Vanguard sires, and the winningest U.S. Brahman bull of all time. He’s the breed’s only three-time National Champion (1986, 1987, and 1988) and two-time International Champion (1987 and 1988). After 202, V8 began its legacy of stamping out championship cattle, one right after another. Even today, it’s 202s blood that’s carried in over 80 percent of our herd. In 1998, the next great herd sire to impact Brahman breeding was born: Mr. V8 287/5, better known as Superstroke. Superstroke was a six-time undefeated International Champion Get-of-Sire winner (2001-2006). In 2000, we hosted our third production sale—“Power of Production”—which grossed more than $1 million, with buyers spanning the globe. 16

He was recognized by The Brahman Journal as the #1 Sire of Champions from 2011 to 2018, and he produced the 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2018 U.S. National Champion Females. In September 2017, his semen sold for $18,100 per unit—the highestvalued U.S. semen at that time. +Mr. V8 458/7 “Noble” entered the Register of Renown in 2019 from his first calf crop which included the 2018 Grand Champion Bull at Houston and 2018 Reserve Grand Champion Female at Houston (both from the calf division).

HK Memorial Trophy for premier exhibitor of the Houston Livestock Show. We are also honored by the hundreds of class winners, division champions and reserves, or reserve grand champions we have exhibited through the years.

We have also held several tremendous sales in the past few years. From 2015 to 2018, our online sales were the highestaveraging bull and female sales of the breed. In 2018, we set the breed record for the two highest priced females to sell at a Brahman auction, at $70,500 and $70,000 respectively. Since 1976, the ranch has exhibited more than 64 National, International Grand Champions, more than any ranch in Brahman history. We’ve won the prestigious HK Memorial Trophy for Premier Exhibitor of the International Show eleven times, including 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.

A proud moment for our family: All four female division champions of the 2016 International Brahman Show were V8 females, with Jim, Rachel, and Brandon on the halters.

NEXT GENERATION Since Rachel’s husband, Brandon, joined the family in 2010, the ranch has grown even more than we ever thought possible! Brandon spearheaded the V8 Power Rating selection tool, Genetic Partners program, as well as the V8 Ranch performance bull test and purebred Brahman steer feedout. We’re proud to say that V8 Ranch has fed the highest number of purebred Brahman steers of any ranch in the United States through the ABBA Carcass Evaluation Program. Using the newest technology in carcass ultrasound and genetic research, we’ve made sure our cattle remains the best of the breed. In 2019, we will feed more than 100 head of purebred Brahman steers to obtain carcass data. Even though we’ve been ranching all our lives, we’re continually discovering innovative ways to improve and market our cattle.

REACHING NEW HEIGHTS Sloan and Mollie Williams achieved their lifelong dream of ranching together, and now that dream includes their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Come to the ranch on any given day, and you’ll find four generations of family working side by side. The future is brighter than ever—not just for our ranch, but the whole Brahman breed.

For more than forty years, we’ve kept true to our strong ranching roots. The livestock industry has been built on passion and tradition. Those in the business know why we do it: the love of our cattle. While we work hard each day to reach new heights with our herd, we’re proud to honor and preserve V8’s time-honored traditions of excellence, enthusiasm, and single-minded determination. In 2012, we were awarded the “Seedstock Producer of the Year” award from the Beef Improvement Federation. This prestigious award recognizes our commitment to the industry and our efforts to produce gentle, high-quality Brahman seedstock with carcass merit. In 2017, we proudly unveiled our “V8 Power Rating,” a forward-looking selection index developed specifically for V8 Ranch and our customers to help make informed breeding decisions based on science and genetic progress. In 2018, V8 Ranch launched V8 Beef, the first Brahman specific branded beef program in the United States. In 2019, we will offer the USA’s first within-herd genomically enhanced EPDs. At V8, we take pride in our heritage, our Christian values, our work ethic, and above all our hands-on family atmosphere. We wake up each day excited to face the future and continue working toward our common goal: sustaining our family-owned and operated ranch for generations to come. THE BRANDS

OF V8

Customers often ask us about our different brands. Initially, when Sloan purchased the herd, all the cattle carried the V8 brand on their left hip. This tradition still holds true today. Because Jim was older when the herd was purchased, his cattle are branded the same way as Sloan’s, using the V8 brand. However, as the family grew, Sloan & Mollie wanted to find a way to make sure all their children and grandchildren would be able to continue their heritage as Brahman breeders. So, they gave each child and grandchild the best heifer calf of that year’s calf crop. Sloan and Jim decided to come up with a way to let the girls know which cattle were theirs when they drove through the pastures. They decided on shoulder brands, named for each of their granddaughters and greatgranddaughters, which can now be seen on a number of the ranch’s cattle. The brands have become a family tradition of each generation, with Sloan drawing and creating the brands for Rachel, Catherine and Payton, and Jim creating the brands for Mollie, Annie, and Knox.

The Heads of Our Herd... Behind every one of our great V8 bulls, there is a great Brahman cow. We’re proud of their pedigree and our reputation as a top seedstock provider of highperforming, structurally sound bulls. Our bulls, all of whom come with documented performance and breeding guarantees, are bred to represent the best of both worlds. They are able to handle heat and drought conditions, yet they still have desirable carcass traits. They are strong, yet gentle. And, they are muscular, yet still able to move well thanks to our focus on structural quality.

CARCASS MERIT AND PERFORMANCE FROM THE CLAYDESTA COW FAMILY A tremendous herd sire with a stellar pedigree, outstanding performance, and visual quality. 194 was the highest scanning bull of his calf crop for %IMF (marbling). He offers the same amount of bone and muscle as his brother 191, but more moderate birth weights and frame size. 194 sired the top two highest indexing bulls of our 2016 Performance Bull Sale. We are extremely pleased with his production of both bulls and females that have been good enough to show, but are backed with moderate birth weights, performance, and carcass to be accepted by commercial cattlemen.

“THE COWMAN’S BULL” 259/7 has been the #1 highest volume semen seller at V8 Ranch for the last 5 years. It’s easy to see why, when you look at the beef industry relevant package that this bull offers. His calves have consistently been born light, weaned heavy, gained well through the yearling stage, and have been some of the top scanning calves when ultrasounded. With the impressive amount of gains that his calves display, they manage to level off and maintain a moderate mature frame size. He has been used with great success across several breeds for crossbreeding and breeding up programs for other American breeds. His universal appeal and relevance to the real world make him an asset to any breeding program.

“MAN OF STEEL” 2017 INTERNATIONAL GRAND CHAMPION Sheer power, tremendous performance, and exquisite style. Backed by two of the greatest cow families in Brahman history, Mr. V8 604/7 is the epitome of a Brahman bull. He perfectly combines the size, bone, length, and muscle of +Mr. V8 191/7 and the style and productivity of his 380/6 sired dam. He had the second heaviest weaning weight (710 pounds) and heaviest yearling weight (1181 pounds) of the 2014 spring calf crop. “Man of Steel” consistently breeds true to his type, when mated to a variety of cows. His offspring have an extended front end, bold and open rib cage, expressive loin shape and width from stifle to stifle. 604/7 is a truly remarkable bull, that has had the rare ability to have massive size, bone, and muscle while maintaining perfect hoof shape and clean joints. “MEGASTROKE” Megastroke is one of our most popular international sires, who has become somewhat of a worldwide Brahman celebrity for his extreme size combined with great style. He has an extremely level topline, great pigment, lots of breed character, and is very balanced, especially for his size. When his semen debuted at Houston in 2018, we sold out in less than a day, and spent the entire year of 2018 collecting semen to fill all of the pre-orders that were placed during Houston by international breeders. To this day, this semen is some of the rarest and most demanded semen, because it is in such high demand. Each week as he produces new semen, it sells out instantly to a waiting list. It’s no surprise that he’s such a worldwide favorite. His sire, +Mr. V8 777/4 is one of the most loved V8 bulls of Central America. His dam, +Miss V8 410/6 is probably one of the most beautiful cows on the ranch. In our Central American travels, we had seen several outstanding 777 sons raised by the J.L. Morales family winning at Expica. At every ranch we visited in Central America, they proudly showed us their Powerstroke daughters and said these were their best donors. So, we decided to ‘swing for the fence’ and give ol’ 777 a try again! We chose +410/6, one of our most powerful cows on the ranch to flush him to. Megastroke was the result, along with 3 flushmate sisters we kept in the herd. He hit it out of the park!

2018 RESERVE INTERNATIONAL CHAMPION BULL Mr. V8 815/7 was one of the four powerhouse bulls coming out of the same calf crop as 756, 794, and 855. When it came time to select the “Bull of the Year” for 2018, these four bulls were all in the running - each for very different reasons. Mr. V8 815/7 was a very popular show bull - probably the most successful of that group - as a consistent winner throughout his entire 3 year show career. He was the 2018 Senior Champion Bull at Houston, and was selected as 2018 Reserve Grand Champion Bull at Houston behind his V8 stallmate - Mr. V8 146/8. He was also the 2017 National Senior Champion Bull. What we really like about 815 is his length and muscle in a moderate frame size. He has what the old timers call the “apple butt” which is a really powerful hindquarter. Immediately after he won Reserve at Houston, his first duties were to be the natural service sire on our first calf heifers, and we are expecting his first calves in March 2019.

“THE YETI”

2019 V8 RANCH BULL OF THE YEAR Mr. V8 933/7 “The Yeti”. He joins the ranks of great bulls like Noble, Man of Steel, and 855 who also hold the “Bull of the Year” title. 933 is a curve bending bull, due to his birthweight-weaning- yearling weight spread. He had an actual birthweight of 77 pounds coupled with a birthweight EPD of 2.2. His WW ratio was 116% and YW ratio of 108%. His weaning and yearling EPDs puts him in the top 1% of the Brahman breed. He is also in the top 1% for Carcass weight and Ribeye area. His carcass ultrasound data was well above average as well, scanning with a 14.7 square inch ribeye and 3.09% IMF. All this comes as no surprise, as he is backed by two of the strongest cow families in the Brahman breed on both sides of his pedigree in terms of growth, performance, and maternal ability. 933/7 is sired by +Mr. V8 191/7 who is a ABBA EPD trait leader for Ribeye area (#1), Yearling Wt, Carcass Wt, and Scrotal Circumference. Oh, and yes, he still has a flawless phenotype and perfect structure.

A SOLID CHOICE FOR SOUNDNESS, FERTILITY, MODERATE FRAME AND MATERNAL STRENGTH. Mr. V8 968/7 is an upcoming herd sire that combines all the traits the U.S. beef industry desires: low birth weight, soundness, fertility, a moderate frame size, and great maternal strengths. While his counterpart “The Yeti” is a bull that is more destined for the international beef industry, 968 is a bull along the lines of 901 and 259 that is sure to make a big impact in the U.S. He is perfect in his structure, and a very moderate frame size. He ranks in the top 1% of the breed for WW, YW and docility and in the top 5% for SC, CW, Fat and Tenderness. He had a WW ratio of 114; a YW ratio of 105, and a SC ratio of 104. 968 comes from a great cow family known for fertility and quality: Jennessa. She lived to age 18, with a picture perfect udder her entire productive life. All of 968’s sisters also have perfect udders. All of the females in this line are high egg producers. 968 himself collected extremely high quality semen at a very early age, and in fact has calves on the ground before he even turned 3 years old. The first calves that have been born exhibit the same shape to his hindquarter along with his rib shape and capacity.

2018 INTERNATIONAL GRAND CHAMPION BULL - AS A CALF There’s probably no other bull that gets us as excited right now as 146. He stole the hearts of the Brahman world at Houston in 2018 when he was named Grand Champion at a Calf. This is the first time since 1990 that a calf bull has won Houston. Ever since, we have turned down literally hundreds of offers from Brahman breeders around the world wanting to buy the bull, buy the semen rights, buy an interest. He is everything you could ever want in a herd bull: the perfect combination of power, functionality, soundness, smoothness, and a moderate frame size. He is the epitome of that “flawless phenotype” V8 is known for and is backed by probably the single greatest bull and cow at V8 Ranch at this time. His sire, Noble, is the #1 semen sales bull at V8 Ranch right now. Compared to Noble at this stage of his life, we think 146 is better. His dam, +Miss V8 805/6 is the most consistent cow at the ranch right now. His first calves will be born May 2019 at V8 Ranch, with many to follow throughout the fall. A true game-changer for V8 and the bull we believe to be the next great one behind 380 and Noble.

“THE BEST COW ON V8 RANCH RIGHT NOW” ORIGIN STORY 805 is probably the most impressive cow on the ranch at this time. Born and raised on V8 Ranch, 805 blends a unique pedigree with +Avery, +Liberty, and +Datapack on the top, crossed with V8 700/3 and Imperator on the bottom. It’s exciting when a great cow with a little different genetic base starts to prove her worth as a super donor and you start to see the formation of a new cow family. Her impact will be felt for years to come at V8.

FAMOUS SONS AND DAUGHTERS Miss V8 293/8, the 2016 U.S. National Grand Champion Female Miss V8 507/7 (former Calf Champion at Houston and super donor) Mr. V8 146/8 - 2018 Houston Grand Champion Bull Miss V8 317/8

WHAT MAKES HER SPECIAL? Not only is she impressive to see, but her production record is stellar. She consistently passes on depth of body and spring of rib contributing to the overall volume and capacity of her offspring. Her calves have fantastic muscle shape, maintain a sound skeleton, and have a feminine, functional look.

Emily Dial sold Miss Priss in one of Johnny Joyce’s memorable sales for the record-shattering price of $25,000; she was purchased by Stephanie and Bill Vineyard of Kirvin, Texas. In all, Stephanie and Bill had bought more than 100 females from 3X Ranch. One day, the Vineyards decided to get out of the Brahman business. When they were deciding what to do with their herd, they thought immediately of us here at V8. Stephanie called Jim and offered him a deal: he could come pick any of her 3X cows for $1,750 each. Jim knew Stephanie had Miss Priss, and he had his eye on her. He told Stephanie that he knew she paid $25,000 for her, but he just couldn’t afford that much.

1978 Reserve National Grand Champion Female, shown by Clyde Goudeau

Stephanie said, “No, Jim, Miss Priss is included for the $1,750, just like all the other cows.” See, Stephanie loved Miss Priss and wanted her to go to a good home. So, Jim bought her and took her straight to the front pasture at V8, where she spent most of her days getting love and affection from Jim and Luann’s daughters, who loved to pet her because she was so gorgeous and docile.

LINEAGE Based on pedigree research and her connection to the Superstroke line, we know the 98/6 cow family blends two of the original 1944 V8 cow families: Ann Forgason 5 (ABBA 4320) and Carmencita 116. This means 98/6 is another line that has been bred at V8 since the ranch was founded.

CHARACTERISTICS +Miss V8 98/6 is the cornerstone of our polled program! The 98 cow family represents quality all around, whether you’re seeking polled genes or not.

ORIGIN STORY At the 2003 All American, Jim told Rachel that the ranch had sold an exceptional polled female to a junior who was graduating from high school and ready to end her career showing cows. Jim suggested Rachel buy the heifer—and that heifer was the illustrious +Miss V8 98/6!

FAMOUS SONS AND DAUGHTERS +Miss V8 98/6 produced the highly acclaimed donor daughter +Miss V8 797/6 (S), one of our top donors today. The 98 cow family also produced the 2010 National Champion Female (Miss V8 100/7) and 2012 Reserve National Champion Female (Miss V8 274/7), as well as three of the best polled Brahman bulls in the world today: Mr. V8 279/7, Mr. V8 125/7, and Mr. V8 139/7. The young Elmo son +Mr. V8 458/7 also comes from this family, out of Miss V8 100/7.

WHAT MAKES HER SPECIAL? 98 has utterly rewritten modern polled Brahman history. Her influence has unequivocally proven that polled cattle can compete and win at any level.

FUN FACT In 2004, hers was the highest-selling flush of the Houston sale. She’s handsdown the most accomplished polled cow family in the United States in terms of quality, marketability, and dollars generated.

LINEAGE +Ms. Claydesta 203-807U5 is the daughter of Suva and the famous National Champion Diamond T 432 cow. Claydesta was bred to V8 herd bulls like +Mr. V8 700/3 and (+)JDH Charley Manso 590/6, and we’re not exaggerating when we say it made magic.

CHARACTERISTICS +Miss V8 188/5, Claydesta’s most celebrated daughter, is a feminine, deep-bodied, level-topped Brahman female, loaded with muscle and productive power.

ORIGIN STORY During the 1980s, Brangus breeder and Texas oilman Clayton Williams had established an elite herd of Brahman cattle. He hosted a special event sale at Houston in 1988, and it was there we purchased +Ms. Claydesta 203-807U5 for a cool $5,000.

LINEAGE +Miss V8 4/5 is a daughter of (+)WR Mr. Suva 203. Pedigree records can be traced back through the lineage of herd bull Mr. V8 232/1 to start with V8’s original Brahman cow, Carmencita 116.

CHARACTERISTICS She’s got the gorgeous blue pigment, feminine eye appeal, and maternal excellence characteristic to many Suva daughters.

ORIGIN STORY Raised by V8, in the mid-1990s, Sloan sold half interest to his good friend Bobby Dickens (of Lazy D Farms in Mississippi). She went on to make a tremendous impact in both the V8 and Lazy D herd.

FAMOUS SONS AND DAUGHTERS

LINEAGE +JDH Jennessa Manso was born in 1999, and was bred by the J.D. Hudgins Locke Division. She represents a longstanding line of maternal merit and maternal performance.

CHARACTERISTICS These cattle are known for a lot of power with a eye appealing look.

ORIGIN STORY Jennessa joined the V8 herd through fate and friendship. We first purchased her daughter, JDH Pittman, from the JDH sale pens as a young heifer. Pittman did a great job for us. Shortly after Brandon and Rachel were married, they purchased a group of mature cows from John Locke who was wanting to downsize. We asked specifically about Jennessa, since we loved Pittman. John said he still had her, but she was old. He agreed to put her on the deal but we both understood that since she was so old, she may not breed. We put her in Mollie’s name for good luck, and fate took over! We flushed her several times before she passed away of old age here at V8.

WHAT MAKES HER SPECIAL? She gave Mollie Cutrer the start to her Brahman herd, and earned a Houston reserve championship banner with 709 and a National reserve championship banner with 694 while Mollie was just 2 and 3 years old.

FUN FACT Since Jennessa was so old when she came to V8, her nickname was “Granny” and she would kick you every time you put her in the chute. Every day Mollie passed by her in the pasture, she’d yell “Granny’s still kickin!”

CHARACTERISTICS These cattle are known for a lot of power with a eye appealing look.

ORIGIN STORY Born in 2004, 410 was actually born in Welsh, Louisiana, at the home of Watson Land and Cattle. Around this time, we were finalizing the details of our partnership with this great family that has spanned nearly 20 years. 410 was one of the first cattle to start this partnership. When she arrived at V8, we knew she would be a great one. We branded her V8, and she became a highly decorated winner on our show string. She’s made a huge impact in our herd and resulted in many high sellers and champions for V8 and the Watson family.

LINEAGE +Miss V8 165/4, born in 1990, is a prime example of the many outstanding daughters produced by +Mr. V8 666/3 in the ’90s. While we’d never underestimate the value of a top sire, we truly believe in the power of cow families to make the most impressive offspring. So, who was the dam of the mighty +Miss V8 165/4? She’s +Lady Bevo 910, from the Herman Beville herd. Our good friend Marcus Shackelford, who was extremely familiar with the Beville herd, had identified 910 as its top heifer. He and Sloan bought her for the V8 herd—the rest is history!

CHARACTERISTICS +Miss V8 165/4 is a very powerful female, what we call a herd bull maker. Among her direct descendants are many great champion bulls and cows, and her family is one we’re deeply proud of.

ORIGIN STORY Bred and raised by V8, through historical research, we’ve traced this cow family back to our original 1944 herd—beginning with the foundation female Betty Lou 44 and her daughter Miss V8 9th.

LINEAGE Rose is one of three Register of Renown daughters out of the JDH Mr. Manso 288/1 bull, who was himself a Forgason-bred son of (+) JDH Dakota Manso 599.

CHARACTERISTICS Cattle from the Rose cow family are characterized by lots of volume, lots of style, and lots of maternal excellence.

ORIGIN STORY Born and raised on V8 Ranch, Rose called Hungerford her home for her whole life. If you asked Jim Williams to name his top three all-time favorite cows on the ranch, chances are he’d include +Miss 495/5 as one of those three. In fact, it was Jim who gave her the nickname “Rose,” because of her enviable red-tinted coat.

FAMOUS SONS AND DAUGHTERS Today, Rose is considered one of the major female lines impacting V8 Ranch today. She produced the 2005 Reserve International Champion Female, +Miss V8 209/6. 209/6 then produced two donor daughters, our herd bull, and the 2009 National Champion, Mr. V8 463/6. +Miss V8 209/6 Rose daughter

WHAT MAKES HER SPECIAL? While searching through our archives, we found a copy of our 2000 Power of Production Sale, where we offered a flush in Rose as Lot 3. In the catalog, Jim wrote: “This red-tinged female has been a personal favorite of mine since birth. I know she can produce a great one!” Boy, was he right! Legendary cattleman Bob Massey purchased the flush in Rose for $8,000, producing a great number of exceptional daughters out of that flush.

FUN FACT Rose was born in 1997 and sadly passed in summer 2012. Throughout her life, she was undeniably the female we all agreed was the loveliest cow on the ranch.

When you see a chance, take it. We focus a lot on linebreeding to exceptional cow families here at V8. That’s a cornerstone of our breeding philosophy. However, from time to time, we do seize the opportunity to bring in outside genetics. These cattle have value to our program, as they infuse new blood into our herd. And, through the years, this influx has brought us great ones - like +Miss V8 617/2, +Miss V8 382/7, and more. A lot of our current females that do not fit into one of our nine foundation cow families are Avery daughters, who we love. These daughters mate well with our mainstay V8 herd bulls. While we focus primarily on breeding V8 to V8, when we see a chance to broaden our breeding program, we take it.

V8 POWER RATING As forward-thinking seedstock breeders, V8 Ranch exists to serve our customers. We believe in performance. We raise performance-oriented cattle, and we serve performance-oriented clients.

is a scientific combination of birth weight, performance, maternal ability, fertility, carcass merit, and marketing options. It weights each factor according to its economic merit, and presents them to you, the buyer, as one easy-to-understand number.

Compared to breeds, the Brahman association offers very few selection tools. When you consider EPDs individually—for instance, birth weight vs. fertility vs. carcass merit vs. performance—it can lead to single-trait selection and information overload for the buyer. We wanted a clearer, more intuitive experience for our clients.

The average Brahman, based on breed average EPDs, has a V8 Power Rating of $0. The V8 Power Rating represents the additional dollars you can expect if you use V8 cattle in your herd. For example, say you have two bulls. One has a Power Rating of +$10 and the other +$30. You could expect your ranch to reap $20 more from each cow exposed to the second bull than you could from each cow exposed to the first.

So, in 2015, we began our quest to broaden the scope of available Brahman selection tools. First, we brought in three of the nation’s top animal breeding experts to lay the foundation of what needed to be included. Then, we went to our customers. We analyzed their production records, performance records, and marketing. In 2016, we funded the research of Dr. Michael MacNeill, one of the world’s leading experts in animal breeding, to put our idea into action. To us, our customers are worth the investment.

The V8 Power Rating is the first Brahman specific selection index in the USA. A SINGLE TOOL DEVELOPED FOR OUR CLIENTS.

It’s a simplified rating of economic value, completely customized to best serve producers using Brahman cattle. It uses actual customer data to model cattle production systems, thereby providing producers with improved service and greater insight into each selection’s possibilities. The V8 Power Rating is based on wellestablished scientific procedures that are guaranteed to help our clients maximize their genetic progress—and, in turn, their bottom line.

HOW TO USE THE V8 POWER RATING Essentially, use the V8 Power Rating exactly as you would an EPD. Except, it is more useful than a regular EPD, because it factors in economic merit, since our ultimate goal at V8 is to help our clients make money with our genetics. The V8 Power Rating

THE “WHY” BEHIND THE V8 POWER RATING The V8 Power Rating is revolutionary for the Brahman breed. No other Brahman ranch—not even the Brahman breed association—offers a tool of this caliber. Why did we do it? Sure, we could have sat back and done nothing. We could have kept on going with the small set of tools available in our breed, even though other breeds have triple the amount of selection tools available. But that’s not how we operate at V8. We want more. We go the extra mile. Buying Brahman cattle is a sound investment. But buying cattle can feel like a gamble, and we want our clients to have every confidence in their purchases. The V8 Power Rating ensures our customers have the best selection tools possible at their disposal.

PUREBRED BRAHMAN CARCASS DATA LAUNCHING THE V8 RANCH CARCASS EVALUATION PROGRAM IN 2019 WITH OVER 120 HEAD OF PUREBRED BRAHMAN STEERS. V8 Ranch has always placed a high emphasis on carcass research, as early participants in the former TAMU Ranch to Rail Program, and early adopters of carcass ultrasound.

But, if you know us at V8, we are never satisfied with “good enough.” We are always pushing the limits and looking for ways to expand.

However, when Brandon joined our family in 2010, we identified Brahman carcass research as one of our key focus areas and jumped wholeheartedly into this effort.

Starting in 2019, we are excited to launch our own ranch-specific carcass evaluation - open to V8 cattle and customer cattle - with more than 120 head of purebred Brahman steers registered for 2019. This group is larger than any ABBA Carcass Evaluation Test and we can’t wait to begin. All of the steers have been genotyped and will go directly into our in-herd genetic evaluation.

In 2011, we started feeding our first set of purebred Brahman steers. This group of steers graded 27% USDA Choice. In 2018, that number has jumped to 67% USDA Choice. From 2011 to 2018, V8 Ranch has fed the largest number of purebred Brahman steers in the history of the ABBA Carcass Evaluation Program. We feel this data is important in building accurate, verified numbers to go into building carcass EPDs for our breed. During this time, V8 Ranch has repeatedly been honored with many awards from this program inluding high grading steers, high grading sire groups, and much more. In the February 2019 ABBA Trait Leaders report for carcass traits, V8 bulls dominate. We have the #1 and #2 bulls of the breed for carcass weight, with Mr. V8 442/6 and +Mr. V8 380/6, respectively. We own 4 of the top 10 trait leaders for marbling, and 7 of the top 10 trait leaders for rib eye area including the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd highest ranked bulls. 132

This test represents the largest testing of any Brahman sire groups to date, and will provide enlightening data that can continue our carcass advancement. The steers in this program are then eligible to be marketed under our V8 Ranch Beef program, which is our 100% Brahman branded beef program grading USDA Choice or higher. Here at V8, when we believe in something - we put our money where our mouth is. We are proud to be leading efforts to prove the value of Brahman cattle in the feedlot and on the rail.

GENOMICALLY ENHANCED EPDS V8 Ranch Forges Partnership With Zoetis for Unique, Custom Beef Genetic Evaluation As customers gain access to more and more health and production data, they will be able to make increasingly sophisticated breeding decisions. To assist these customers in their decision process, Zoetis and V8 Ranch® have formed a partnership to develop a custom, genomically enhanced beef genetic evaluation that will facilitate and enhance these decisions for V8 Ranch and its customers. The partnership combines V8 Ranch’s nearly 75-year history and resulting extensive genetic database for Brahman cattle with Zoetis’ global expertise with single step customized evaluations, to develop genomically enhanced expected progeny differences (GE-EPDs) specific to V8 Ranch’s needs. Genomically enhanced evaluations, in which genetic marker data is combined with pedigree and phenotypic records for a designated population of animals, allow for more accurate and reliable genetic selection. The evaluation resulting from this partnership will allow V8 Ranch and its customers to unlock more genetic potential within their Brahman cattle breeding programs, and in doing so improve productivity, efficiency, and profitability.

140

An animal from V8 is more than just a Brahman. V8 cattle represent an original bloodline that now roams four hemispheres. It reflects the passionate men and women who have devoted their lives to creating a superior Brahman breeding process and elevation program. Our family stakes its entire reputation on each head of cattle we deem worthy of the V8 brand. It symbolizes our guarantee, our commitment and our promise of integrity. Sure, there are quicker, cheaper ways to bring cattle to market, but that’s not what we’re about. In an ever-growing and competitive beef industry, V8 Ranch has always gone out of its way to occupy a spot unto ourselves. It takes extra effort to breed, raise —and yes, even to buy— our cattle, but we think it’s well worth it. Our customers think so too.

THE BRAND OF CHAMPIONS V8 Ranch is one of the most celebrated ranch in

Brahman breed history, being the breeder of more National Grand Champions, more International Grand Champions, and more All American Grand Champions than any other ranch since ABBA’s formation in 1924. This is a huge accomplishment in itself, but even more impressive when you factor in that V8 Ranch did not win it’s first national championship until 1976 and it’s first international championship until 1982. Another proud accomplishment is the fact that while we are the breeder of these champions, many times it is our customers who enjoyed the spotlight of success. Several of our champions in open shows are cattle that we have sold to fellow breeders, and that makes us just as happy as if we would have been the ones at the halter on that day. Over the past 40 years V8 Ranch has established their place in Brahman history as being known as the elite ranch of champions. While the show ring is not our first priority, it is a testament to the quality of our program, our breeding, and our vision for excellence. 142

WHO WILL PROMOTE BRAHMAN AS THE #1 GLOBAL BEEF BREED?

V8 WILL. 149

WH AT MA KE S A V 8 S O UN I QUE? We’re told time and again that V8 cattle have their own ‘look’ - people call it “The V8 Signature Style.” For nearly three-quarters of a century, we’ve ensured that each Brahman bull or female we select has a flawless phenotype and the highest visual appeal. Today, our cattle are instantly recognizable by their signature style and flair. But, they don’t just look good, they’re also structurally sound: big, muscular animals with strong jawlines, which help them forage better; exceptional carcass quality; remarkable calving ease – and that’s not all. Here are some of the key features that ensure our award-winning Brahman bulls and females excel in every area.

LONGEVITY AND FERTILITY

ADAPTABILITY

V8 Brahmans boast special immunities and exceptionally long productive lives meaning more calves (and more profit for our customers).

Brahman cattle have superior survival instincts and are highly adaptable to a wide range of climates, temperatures, and terrain. It’s why you’ll find V8 cattle on six different continents!

NOBILITY

PROFITABILITY

We’re proud to hold 64 prestigious National or International Grand Championships since 1976, the highest number from any one ranch in Brahman history. Our Mr. and Miss V8’s are a noble herd, thanks to their exceptional breed character. Intelligent, inquisitive, and gentle by nature, our wellbred, wisely-selected Brahman cattle handle beautifully with proper treatment.

V8 cattle are among the most expensive in the world for a reason. Yes, there is an initial upfront investment, but our customers consistently report a strong return on those investments. In other words, they make good money using our bloodlines – and we wouldn’t want it any other way! Customer satisfaction is paramount in our operation; we believe our insistence on unparalleled quality and uncompromising service is what has made V8 Ranch world-renowned.
