BUILDING THE PAST; SAVING THE FUTURE

INTRODUCTION

The study proposes guidelines and strategies that don’t interfere with its historic character and heritage. To assess how urbanization has affected and continues to affect Old Goa’s built and unbuilt heritage.The aim is to reduce the future implications of urbanization and revive this historic precinct. To then come up with strategies and regulations that help in minimizing the impact of development and help build in respect to context.

Old-Goa is a world Heritage site declared by UNESCO. It is well known for its rich built Heritage and culture having more than 50 monuments and sites of high significance. There are a number of churches, convents, and monuments located in the area which date back to the 16th century and are examples of innovative building techniques and architecture with historical significance. There are twetyone monuments of national importance in Goa out of which seven are adopted by UNESCO as “Group of Monuments” of World Heritage.
